I played here on Sat, June 25 for the first time. Wanted to play here because of the history and have heard it may be closing in 2018. I wasnt expecting a country club atmosphere and I knew it was a muni. I had a great time. The layout is fun with lots of hills and slopes. The greens on the back were far better than the front, but again its a muni. I was paired with a couple of regulars and Im glad because its one of those course you need to play a few times to get the routing and know where to hit the ball. I will play here again and I suggest you do so also.

I played Lions this weekend (Sept 2011). It is not in good shape, which is pretty sad considering all of the history behind this course. I hope it can return to its former lush state once the drought ends in Texas. This is a very short course and I was able to shoot 78 on it despite not playing a great round. Putting was Pitch and Putt quality due to the dry greens and prevalent ball and spike marks throughout. It is a good value for beginners but right now it is not in good enough condition for the discerning golfer. I hope that Lions gets good again soon.

Pretty fun little track, pretty short at 6000 yards from the back tees. After four on Sunday is 20 bucks with a cart? That is hard to beat for a course that has greens that bite and decent fairways. Good confidence booster. Great for all skill levels, including low handicaps. Lots of good holes for birdies, and lots of good holes for caution, making the short course seem more difficult. Get a tee time for weekends. Dont be a golf snob, it may play slow and it wont be the nicest course you have ever played.

I love this place, I hope it stays open forever :( The prices are great the holes are good, its really easy to not lose your ball here, its fairly flat for most of the holes. I think its well maintained for a muni. The staff are nice and the cafe place has some good items. I really enjoy my times here. There is a decent amount of parking. Being a muni do plan to play an average of 3 hours. They do well at telling people to keep up the pace, but some people just dont care.

Played here many times. Its what youd expect from a municipal course condition-wise, in that its usually not pristine. Good value for the money though. Short course, but lots of trees off the fairway if you struggle to hit it straight. Play can be slow when its busy. Course has neat historical value, Ben Hogan apparently played here and birdied the difficult 16th hole. Ben Crenshaw and Tom Kite also played here as junior folders.

All the greats have played here. The list is long: Ben Hogan, Sam Snead, Ben Crenshaw and many more. When I play Muny I can feel the history, Ben Hogan walking the fairways and complaining that 16 is an unfair hole, etc. Its an important part of Texas and golf history that should be preserved. Hopefully the UT regents can see beyond the $ and realize this.

Since Lions is a municipal course, it means that the prices are a little lower then a lot of other golf course. And being municipal means youll get a lesser quality experience and crowd. They do keep relatively good care of the grounds.

It has been in good shape lately. A lot better than some of the other courses. Staff is pretty good. Snack bar is good also. No real place to warm up, but cant have everything. not sure it helps to warm up anyway.

First time going and had a great time. The course is not in bad shape and the greens roll pretty good. It is a fairly easy course with some difficult shots every here and there, overall great course to play.

So great that there is a cheap accessible golf course in the middle of town. This isnt a course that is going to blow anyone away, but it is ideal for beginners or those on a tight budget

An Austin Institution! This course has served Austinites in a spectacular manner over the years. It has always been, and is currently very well kept for a public course.

Awesome staff, awesome course, some greens may need maintenance from time to time. If the marshal did its job you could finish a round in an average timeframe

Nice course, fun to play on. Great views. Not a pro tour course, but fun for a day out. Dont rent the clubs, over-priced and not a complete set.

This is a mainstay of Austin Golf, but due to the high traffic, the conditions are very lacking despite a fun layout. SLOW!
