My wife and I are long time members, Ive read some of the reviews and want to respond to some of the negative comments: * First off, you cannot play a 6 hour round here, its 4.5 hours and you are out of here. Im 68 years old and my wife and I walk the course in under 4 hours as a data point. Usually we are pushed by folks in carts. Note: some of the previous marshals admittedly needed to attend charm school, but they are all long gone.! * Second if you can find a better layout in Austin, play it. WE DONT NEED OR WANT YOU HERE. Hackers need not apply. Ive played "ALL" the Austin golf courses and the front nine at Avery is one of the best, #5 and #7 are really tough, but fair. You have to hit really good shots. * Third if you can find a course with better greens play it. The new owners have spent a ton of money on new equipment and time to make the greens as good as they can be in Texas and survive the heat. They are constantly sabring and airiating them to hold water, no more punching and sanding. * Fourth we now have the JL Lewis golf academy at Avery. Which is a top tier learning center from a recent multiple PGA tour winner and all around great guy. Folks hes been there and done that. ( I like to hangout around him and hope some of it will rub off on me.) * Areas of improvement: the bunkers. My wife and I play early in the morning and because of all the watering the sand gets compacted. We are usually out there before the bunker crew has a chance to fluff them up. Im sure they are much better in the afternoon. *Lastly since the new owners have taken over EVERYTHING (including the membership) has been raised several notches, ESPECIALLY THE GOLF ETIQUETTE and if you dont get that the new marshalls will be happy to train you. Folks all these improvements cost money so they bumped the green fees and also my monthly membership. To me its still a good value.

First, the positives. Nice clubhouse, nice layout on most holes although like other courses in the area, there are poorly architected holes. OK to walk but a good distance to walk between green and next hole in some cases. Parking is adequate. Ive played there a couple of dozen times in the last few years and have seen it deteriorate over time. Now the bad. IMHO, it is clearly overpriced for the condition of the course. Fairways are rough in places and greens are the pits in places, not terribly smooth no matter what time of the year you play. And what do you call the stuff they put in sand traps? It isnt sand by any stretch of the imagination. More like fine dirt. If this were a Muni course with Muni rates it would be fine. The range gets overused and it is hard to find grass to hit off. The fake grass mats (which must be used on certain days) are horrid. Without question, they are old, in terrible condition, and will mark up your clubs pretty badly. They probably havent been replaced in 10 years. Clearly, no one is going through the range balls and throwing out those that are so worn they have no dimples. Cmon guys. This aint rocket science. Go through them twice a year to weed out the crap. They have a water cooler next to the ball machine but either it is empty or there are no cups. The young men that pick up the balls, and ball baskets on the range area are always polite but they arent trained well. This is poor management.

Ashley, the head pro (woman) does not do good business. I canceled my $79/month Players Club membership and was traveling for 3 weeks and could not come into the club to officially cancel with signed paperwork, but the golf shop employee I spoke with assured me Ill take care of it and you wont be charged again and well wave the 30 day notice and just cancel you out. Long story short I was hit for 2 more months of billing and dont check my checking account statements every day and when I saw it I called in to explain hey this was improperly charged, and they never took care of it. I tried getting in touch with management for 3 consecutive days and kept getting the run around and Ashley would not call me back and all her messages were funneled through the pro shop and relayed back to me when I called each time. Really? Are you a Fortune 500 CEO and cant take 5 minutes to resolve a customer issue? Screw this place. Both Avery and Teravista have incompetents running the show. I hope this place goes bankrupt. Now on to waste more of my time disputing the charges and blocking their transactions!

They were hosting a junior PGA tournament event for kids 8-14 year old. I was caddying for my son. On the 4th hole we played, right before a kid was about to swing.. the marshall called out "you need to pick up the pace as you are on pace for a 6 hours round of golf". I think that comment is uncalled for. We were about 10 mins behind pace, but a simple "please pick up pace" should do the job. After our round, I went to the Pro shop and told them about the rude comment and the Pro shop assistance simply said "I stand by my marshall and doubt he said what you claim he said.. " We have 3 parents witness that and this is EXCELLENT customer service from the Pro shop guy to call me a liar. His attitude was "why are you here playing at our course?" My suggestion to Avery Ranch is, Dont host any event and make your course private. Take some customer service/ hospitality training. There are so many good golf course in the Austin area, this is definitely NOT one of them.

Fair golf course for Austin... made a late tee time on a Saturday, and it was still pretty stacked up. The prices are high considering the other options in the area. The fairway was similar to many municipal courses in the area. The greens are a completely different story, they are green as it can get and very well watered = FAST! The course itself was good, some holes were comparable to country clubs in difficulty level. The bag drop off is strange, since there is no where to actually put your bag except right in front of the door. The range on this particularly day was not great, lots of dirt at each station. And the stations were quite close together as well.

This is by far one of the worst golf course to play up North. The green fees are so overpriced for the condition of the course. At $70 you can play Falconhead with a better course and by far better Staff. The range is so sandy with little to no grass. The range balls or horrible for the price point the course is trying to achieve. Every other ball is so bad you dont even want to hit them. The staff does not have ANY customer service skills nor do they understand player rettion. A happy golfer will always come back to friendly staff. Avery Ranch Golf Club new managment looks to be heading the wrong direction.
