They show great movies, has a lot of charm, and they do cool events. Sadly, it lacks a lot of the amenities of even second rate movie theaters. They have just 3 co-ed bathroom stalls, which means waiting to use the bathroom can take longer than youd like when you cant help but take a break during the movie theater, which features your smaller than average screen. I recommend giving this theater a go if you dont need the amenities. If you dont need snacks or bathroom breaks or big screens, this theater is perfect. If youre spoiled, like I am, maybe only go here once in a while for the cool events and hard to find movies.

Wanted to see "Hidden Figures" recently and their website said the cost would be $8, but when I got there, I was told it was $9; so, I turned right around and went out the door after telling them it was too expensive. Also, after reading the other reviews, it sounds as though the theater didnt get much of a makeover as far as the uncomfortable seats and smells. I remember seeing a mouse run across the aisle and the smell of pot inside the theater back when it was under different management. I prefer going to one of the Ritz theaters in Old City, instead.

My son and I went on a grand adventure yesterday! We took the speed line into Philly from Cherry Hill, NJ. Got off in the heart of this big city, and made our way to the ROXY Theater. It was his first movie ever. He loved it! Thank you guys! I called ahead, and they told us to come in and give it a try. We stayed for the whole thing. Had the full movie experience... popcorn, raisinets ... Luke is special needs, and not always keen on new places. "Tale as old as Time...".

independent theater needs to be praised. and thats mostly why i choose to give the roxy 3 stars. seating is uncomfortable. ive been here more than a dozen times and have only once sat in a seat that didnt feel like it was falling apart under my butt. the screens are of low quality even considering the incredibly small independent nature of the rooms. i want to love this place, but it feels like it isnt trying to be loved beyond wearing their "independent theater" label.

I love this little place. My favorite part is that it is local and theyre not out to make profit. Great prices compared to the big - box theaters. My only complaint is that the seating is very tight. The screen is a little high when you sit close to the front, but you forget about it once the movie starts. $2 discount if you buy a yearly "membership," but youll have to go 18 times for that to pay off. (And I will)

This two-screen theater is very "mom and pop" feeling, which gives it a certain charm. The screens are not large, but the projection and sound are very good. The seating is about as upright as it comes, with no recline to the chairs at all... my only real complaint.

When I had walked into the small, cramped theater, I sat down in the hard, uncomfortable chair and was overwhelmed by the strong smell of sulfur and methane I.E. smelled like someone passed gas. Great Location, but needs a ventilation system and air fresheners.

Super tiny, very expensive. Your tv at home has a bigger screen. This is a theatre for stuffy hipsters with no mode of transportation. Might just be the crack heads sitting behind its, but the claustrophobic room had the overwhelming scent of hot, stale urine.

Amazing theatre, authentic independent experience. I was in Philly Memorial day weekend 2016 and decided to see x men. i Loved the intimate experience, and indi feel. I definitely recommend this place it if you wanna see a movie in city center philly

Nice small theater that plays a mix of small independent films and blockbuster movies. Probably not the best place for movies with tons of special effects since the screens are small, but perfectly adequate for indie films.

This is a cozy tiny theater. The staff is very nice and they have popcorn and bottled drinks for sale. The screen is smaller than the larger theaters in the city, but you dont notice once the movie has started.

Small clean simple theaters. Staff was friendly. Missing some of the amenities of the huge mega Megaplex, in terms of food, beverage and larger and/or reclining seats. But definitely an enjoyable experience

I love the new recliner seats and the whole new look. There is a lot of buffer room between your seats and the seats next to you. The seats are a thousand times better than Arc light at the UTC Mall.

Small, friendly theatre. I was on holidays, on my last night in Philly. We saw The Accountant. This little theatre seems to have a lot going for it. Staff were friendly, popcorn was good.

Screen is too small. Popcorn was gross. Very small theater, cant imagine going when its actually crowded. Low key during the week, convenient for neighborhood but very small place.

Its a small old and rustic place to be. They only show 2 movies at a time. They have a great pop corn seasoning station. Different flavors and the people are nice

Finally, west of Broad Street, a cinematic home for Center City residents with no carbon footprint. Amazing that it gets first-run movies. And the staff is great.

First time at this theater, didnt know what to expect, but was pleasantly surprised. Good popcorn, great staff, clean theater, what else can you ask for?

Often has the movies that I want to see (and always seems to complement landmark theaters), and also very conveniently located for center city dwellers.

Great city theatre! Intimate, indie feel. My kids have grown up going to this theatre and love it. Seating is much better since it was renovated.

Shows a variety of independent movies, has the occasional preview. Very small theater with very limited concessions(no hot beverages)

Great theater showing repertory films and new releases. Sometimes, they even show films on 35mm, which is a major selling point.

The Roxy is my favorite independent theater! Its a niche theater that can play main stream movies as well as independent movies.

Love the Roxy. We go for the Independent films but they also offer mainstream releases. Glad to have a theater in Center City.
