Short version: Google Maps "golf course" and go anywhere else Have played just about all of the public tracks in the area focusing mainly on Cleveland metroparks courses (which to be fair enjoy tax and utility advantages that other independent public courses do not), but this place was a DOG TRACK. Ill take you tee to green on the Red course my first time playing: Tee box: No problems Fairways: It was June 15, we have had maybe 3 or 4 days total in the 80+s and fairways were long AND burned out. Public course so I dont expect or require short tight fairways as they require more watering, but I cant imagine there is any grass left by July Rough: Condition of the rough was inexcusable. No exaggeration there was 6 inch long dead cut grass everywhere - rows and clumps. I have played $8 9 hole courses that were better than this. I would compare to playing fall golf when the leaves have fallen. Every other course I have played in my lifetime has managed to avoid this problem so I was sort of shocked by this. I want to stress that I am not a country club snob exaggerating about some grass clippings. My playing partner and I were laughing out loud multiple times because it looked like the grass just got its annual mowing. EVERY HOLE WAS LIKE THIS. If the fairways were in anywhere near decent shape, you could say ok then keep it in the fairway, but there honestly was not a lie on the course you could hit a crisp shot with a clean divot. Greens: Greens would have been fine except that the previous hole cuts were filled with straight sand. Again I have never seen this at a golf course. Overall layout: Layout is cool with some driveable fours and long 3s. #9 on the red course was a surprisingly great par 3. Final recommendation: Honestly play anywhere else. There are so many other courses in the area that are better maintained for the same price - I think it was like $13 to walk 9 and I would not play here again for free. Shot a 42 so Im not great, but not a complete hack. Layout has serious potential, but the course maintenance and condition was laughable.

If you want a country club, join a country club. This course is the quintessential urban track and it is easy to get on and play golf. There is no crowd. The bones of the course are lovely. Golf is what the course gives you, and you will get scratchy lies on the fairway and lose balls in the weedy rough. The greens have dead stripes where the mower leaked gas. But if you understand golf you will adjust for it. What you get is the convenience of walking on without a tee time and a group of golfing regulars who despise slow play who keep the pace moving. It is the perfect place to teach how to play and live golf -I think every golfer needs to introduce golf to at least two people every year and show them things like ettiquette and pace and this is the place to do it -you can have a 30 handicap and still play 9 in under 2 hours. Places like this will save golf from dying a slow long death. On the plus side, I see landscaping and more attention to upkeep which gives me hope. The staff return respect if given it -golf ettiquette. The fate of this course reflects in some ways the fate of the middle classes in this area, and I hope it continues to prosper and grow.

This course could be nice but the fact is its not. Its not well maintained by any means. Ive never been on another golf course where large portions of the fairways are unplayable because of sewage problems. Its disgusting. The rough is cut so high that if you miss the fairway youre better off dropping a ball than trying to find the one you just hit. On top of the terrible conditions the people that golf there have no appreciation for the game. Players rush you on every hole and some even have the audacity to yell at you when you are on the putting green. It seems like the people playing dont understand that you are supposed to play the holes in order and instead drive their carts to any open hole they can find. Its like there is some race that I missed the sign up for. Im not a slow player either. Im 20 and prefer to walk but can still keep pace with anyone else. In my opinion dont waste your time or patience with this place. Youll get no enjoyment from it.

If I could give this course zero stars I would. This is by far the poorest condition Ive ever seen a legitiment golf course in. I could hardly tell the difference between the fairways and roughs on most of the holes. Ive played a lot of courses and this ranks as one of the worst, if not THE worst. I payed $13 dollars to walk 9 holes on a Monday so the green fees arent exactly cheap either. The pro shop hardly even has anything inside of it. I mean it doesnt even look like the city even tries to make this place look respectable. I play public courses all the time so Im not expecting country club type conditions but the conditions of this place are an absolute joke. Ive played par 3 courses that charge $5 green fees and doubles as a gay bar on the weekends and Highland Park makes that place look like Augusta during the Masters. Sad!

Highland Park Golf Course is steeped in history. It is where Bob Hope 1st played golf. The Blue course hosted the Cleveland Open in 1964 & 65. It was the first course to offer 6 figure prize to the winner of a PGA event. Greats like Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicholas, & Tony Lema played there. The greens on the Blue course are typically excellent and fast. That said, the fairways and rough are almost never well kept... but the blue course is a great place to find ones game and learn how to strike it crisp. Very good value for your money. Remember too that the Red course is easier and typically played by slower moving players, the Blue course is for players. The Blue course doesnt come back to the clubhouse at the turn either so if you are playing it, you are in for 18 holes or a long walk back in after 9 :)

The course overall struggles to keep up with others, however you shouldnt be blaming the workers for it, you should be blaming whoever buys the equipment. They use 40 year old tractors and 10 year old rough mowers, scraps to Manikiki is brand new to them. The course has improved since the new owner took control, however the funds are just lacking. The course is a great place to have a fun time, you have it all to yourself, and everyone is so nice. Everyone bad wraps the course, but its honestly quite a fine piece of work. Yes there are holes and divets, but that place is practically a historic monument for a lot of people that grew up in its prime, and Im sure it one day will be again, just give it time.

This course is OKAY for the price. My only major problems with it were the following. 1- The fairways were not even close to being mowed correctly... you could not tell the difference from the fairway and the rough. 2- Id say 5/18 greens had scalp marks from where it looked like the mower blade was bent and when the holes were moved around the green, the grounds crew seemed to fill the old holes with sand... never have i seen that before. 3- Some of the greens had oil/gas marks from where the mower leaked. I played the red course because I heard it was better kept than the blue... makes me wonder how bad the blue is. Honestly the course is not worth the price of $30 for 18 with a cart.
