The building itself is a great piece of architecture. The spaces are well conceived and located. Just to be in the building was an experience to be enjoyed. However----- The art inside was not enjoyable. I am a local artist with pieces in a few of the nearby buildings. They would qualify for a museum such as the MOCA. I get contemporary art. Its the message, but its also visual . A museum ,if it wants to succeed should fill its galleries with art for the general public as well as trying to be inovative. Yes you can fill a large space with a specific genre, which a small amount of people will get or enjoy. However when you come to your museum and you dont "get it" you expect to go to the next gallery and the next gallery and the next gallery to find something you "get". I got the tree when I walked in . I kind of got the ceramics. But for the general public to pay for parking then the $8 for admission to see that little of substance is not going to make a successful "must come back to see what they have" museum... When we asked we were told to go to all 4 floors for art. Aside from the tree piece on the first floor and some small pieces on the second floor (the documentery room was not showing anything), and the culinary stuff which is something for a culinary museum, there was nothing of real substance in the place. Do you really expect the general public to come. A suggestion would be to at least have one floor dedicated to a variety of sculpture paintings and installations that are there on a regular basis. Now when the public comes to your beautiful building they will have at least seen something that will have made them come back...

This museum is overall really unique and interesting. The staff are very friendly and are happy to assist you with anything you need and answer any questions you have. Their gift shop, while not the cheapest place to get stuff (thats kind of expected, though), is just as nice a place to look around as the exhibits. As for the exhibits themselves, I often find them to be a hit or a miss. The second floor always has one or two great interactive exhibit(s) that both kids and adults can enjoy, like making your own collage or writing down on a piece of paper what you imagine your future to be. Theres a staircase inside the main staircase thats painted yellow along the floor and walls where cool music echoes around the inside as you go up. The main exhibits wildly vary in terms of artistry. On one side of the coin, the exhibits show something really ingenuitive and imaginative, while in other times, its the stereotypical pretentious lets-paint-a-black-dot-on-a-white-canvas-and-call-it-art bullcrap. For that, however, its best to go to the main website and check to see what they have first. If you feel like you dont mind paying money to go see the newest exhibit, then I absolutely recommend this museum for you.

I work at a senior living facility, and had scheduled a tour for my residents here. I had called a month in advance, and even called the week before and they said everything was good to go. Well, after a 45 minute drive, we arrived only to find that we had no tour guide, and there was NO art on display! Apparently they were in-between art displays at the time. That would have been nice to know before I drove 16 residents with early stage dementia to the museum. When I asked the girl working at the front desk, she said she had no tours scheduled and there was no information about our group whatsoever. Im not sure what happened, but it was extremely disappointing for my residents.

First of all, the exhibition was very good. MOCA didnt have much to show but everything they displayed was of very high quality. But what makes me give it 5 star is what they did after I left my camera there. I left my camera in an exhibit hall on Sunday. I received a phone call the next day (which is not their business day) from their security manager Ryan telling me that they have secured the camera. He was extremely nice and agreed to send the camera to my address. Two days later, my camera was on its way home! Please give this small museum a shot if you are visiting Cleveland the first time. You wont be disappointed!

I had already heard strange and negative reviews of MOCA... but I decided to see for myself. When I entetred there was no one who worked in the Museum to be found at the admission desk and I waited for over five minutes for assistance but none was found. Someone eventually walked by but glanced at me and continued to go about their business. I decided to leave after two cosplayers dressed in capes came through the lobby play fighting. Contemporary Art is strange and uncomfortable enough and the lack of professionalism by the staff made the whole experience worse. Not worth the trip.

Although this is a small museum, their collection is not permanent, and travels. This means that there will usually always be something new when you go. I was able to see Lu Yangs Delusional Mandala, and much more. Ive been to the Cleveland Museum of Art, but something about the MOCA, I really enjoyed. There were very few people in the museum at the time of me going, and the atmosphere and exhibitions whispered contemporary art to me. Each room had its own personality almost, some being erotic. Overall, I highly recommend this museum!

I like MOCA! Lets be realistic: if you buy a beer and fries, thats $8. Ive seen stupendous installations there, just one floor can make the trip worthwhile. It hosts a revolving display of contemporary international art that refreshes quarterly. The building itself is a concrete/glass shipwreck stranded on a vast paved plaza (which works for me too). Recommended.

Interesting architecture regarding the building but also creates lots of wasted space. Very few actual art exhibits and the interactive area is just scissors & papers for kids to make collages... very limited, lots of wasted space and very little actual art. Tried to be nice and leave two stars but really had to be honest, complete waste of time.

I have been there twice this year and plan to go again. I had a fun time. My son told me about it. It is tops about 2 hours. I love the small gift shop. They have some really cool stuff!! It is also great to have lunch at one of the unique local restaurants. Easy, close parking.

Refreshing to be surrounded by art & people who are truly interested in it. People watching was at the top of my list, wasnt disappointed. Found out they will accommodate weddings receptions.Nice. Dance ensembles practice outside, you can get in a free preformance!

I saw Mark Mothersbaughs exhibition there. It was free admission for the museum and the concert area just outside the building, which has a very interesting architecture. Id definitely recommend anyone to check it out.

MOCA Cleveland is truly a wonderful asset to our wonderful city! Cleveland is my Paris because there really are excellent opportunities to view and engage in contemporary and classical art.

Being a fan of contemporary art I couldnt be happier than to visit MOCA. I loved the artist selfie installation and the spaces inside the unique building really enhance the art inside.
