Limited in scope, the Columbus Art Museum pales beside museums in comparable sized cities. If your definition of art is primarily limited to paintings, this is a fine place for you. A sculpture or two, a few photographs, a Chihuly, and two monumental Chinese cache pots (possibly incorrectly attributed, hidden on the back stairs) are seemingly the only deviations from paintings in this museum. Little exists in the way of art history, anthropological art exhibits, and history in general, something sadly lacking throughout all of Columbus. Periodic exhibits are of questionable quality. Though small, the permanent collection does present some surprises. The museum does place nice focus on a single local artist, George Bellows. Admission is currently $8, but Sundays are free (except parking lot fees) . Kid-enrichment activities are great, unless you dont have children. The museum will gladly take your money in their shops, but does little to foster artistic scholarship. There is no library or reference area (there is one - for students only, apparently - in the neighboring school).

We got in free as it is part of the National American Reciprocal Museum, where we have a pass for our local one in Acton, MA. So with that in mind, this place was a great place to spend a couple of hours while we were driving through Columbus. It might not have been such great value if you had to pay full admission, but with kids, this place was fantastic, especially as under 5s get in free anyway. There is a great interactive kids section with a lot of activities for them to get involved with. The rest of the art collection, depends on your taste I suppose, but I didnt think it was to bad. Not a lot of older pieces but I hadnt really expected that from a small place. The other facilities such as the gift shop and rest rooms were also good too, as well as a lot of free parking.

We went for the very first time a couple months ago, brought my 8 year old daughter and my at the time 2 year old (hes 3 now) and hes autistic, they both absolutely loved it. The czech puppet stuff was there, my daughter was creeped out by them but loved learning other stuff, at first she was taken back they had statues of naked people in there, but I explaied how it was art. The kids loved the areas they could roam free, and they loved the interactive places. I would highly highly recommend this place to any of my friends who has kids, or who dont. Doesnt matter. Very enjoyable. Everyone we spoke to that worked there as well was very helpful.

Overall a good time, but definitely lacking compared to other museums. Collection lacks any ancient or medieval pieces, with most of the work in the museum seeming to fall between 1750 and 1950. A couple nice pieces in the collection, but upon completing my trip I felt like I must have missed a hallway leading to the rest of the galleries. Special exhibit was included in admission cost and was very good. Also many interactive features, which were very good, especially for children. Free parking is nice, but the price of admission felt rather high for such a small venue. Overall, I left happy but wishing there had been more to see.

While this isnt a particularly large museum the collection is well curated and they make great use of the space. An extension was added several years ago and includes galleries for more contemporary art as well as an even space and cafe. Was pleasantly surprised to find that they offer both free parking and admission every Sunday. There is a donation box at the door but they arent pushy about demanding any sort of suggested donation. Though if you can afford to make a donation to support the museum you certainly should!

The free Sunday admission is the best ticket in town. Not the biggest art museum in the country (actually not that big at all), but what it does have is pretty good). The rotating exhibits are really quite good. They had one during the fall/winter concerning money. Pretty intriguing, one artist had perfectly recreated dollar bills in pencil and used them as currency. I look forward to visiting the addition they are building when it opens in the fall(?). But yeah, visit the art museum on Sunday when it is . . . FREE.

After moving to Columbus about ten years ago I started going to the Art museum on a regular basis as I was very impressed by some of the very famous art that is displayed there. There is even a Van Gough believe it or not. Ive had the privilege of seeing many museums in my life including the Louvre, and this one ranks as one of the best. If you really like art this is one of the best Art museums in the country. There has been a lot of renovation recently and a lot of modern art has been added.

The Imagination and creativity center geared for kids was the most fun part when I visited. I really enjoyed the interactive nature of some of the exhibits. Though that section was catered towards kids, adults could get a kick out of creating art with zipties or playing with fake sand. I thought the rest of the art museum was alright with some interesting exhibits. The staff was really helpful though and it seemed like they truly loved working at the museum.

We found this place on a Sunday when it was free entrance. They have some very fine pieces of art like some of my favorite artist Monet. Was surprised Columbus can afford to have a museum like this. Really enjoyed the kids/hands-on-stuff... they had to tell us to leave when they were closing and we were still engrossed in meant for kids activities :) Also really good cafe - and that its pricey is to be expected at a place like this I suppose.

The Columbus Museum of Art was on my Columbus Bucket List and Im really glad we finally made it there. Theres a great mixture of modern and classic art and it was free on Sunday. We really appreciated how a lot of the exhibits included interactive pieces where patrons could comment on the art or create there own. The kids section was also quite entertaining for the adults! Parking was a little tricky since it was so busy but worth it.

Ive been to the Columbus Museum of Art dozens of times. This past visit was the first time Ive been since they opened the new expansion. To be completely honest, it was nice, but I wasnt that impressed. There didnt appear to be "that much" art. There were a few gallery rooms empty so Im sure they were either moving things around or awaiting new art. Either way, Ill return in the future.

Art spills out of the walls and into the courtyards of CMOA. Inside, the love of art eminates out of every detail of the structure and staff members. Permanent gallery items largely remain in the old building while rotating art is showcased in the new Margaret M. Walter wing. Look for works by Picasso, Monet, Cezanne, Rockwell, Cassatt, Sargent, and van Dyke in the collection.

I didnt find a plethora of world renowned artists or pieces here, but, it is an elegant modern facility with a nice selection of works and it has engaging activities for both children and adults. I also appreciate the summer (day camp) programs for children. I was disappointed to find they have started charging for parking though.
