I only rated this a 1 because you cant give a 0 rating. I only played here because I couldnt get a tee time on such late notice anywhere else and I wish I had just stayed home. They charged me 38$ to play 18 on a Saturday morning which is a reasonable rate for a nice well maintained course, however for what the course actually ended up being about 12$ would have been more reasonable. The course is literally a cow pasture cut out in the sticks. The tee boxes are barren and patchy, the fairways were composed of a little grass here, a little grass there, and the rest is just dirt. The greens were reasonable if you dont mind putting on carpet. To get the ball to roll 20 feet you have to hit the putt like a 60 footer on a normal green. Also the quality of player this course attracts is just atrocious. There are people out here playing that are total hacks and take forever to advance the ball from tee to green. 2 shots for me, takes them 15. Also the configuration and layout of the course is such that on several different holes, especially considering how bad everyone that plays here is, you are in jeopardy of getting hit by balls. Twice during my round people from other holes hit balls onto my hole, one time even onto my green from a different fairway while my buddy was putting. Just standing there about to putt and out of nowhere a ball lands on our green. I understand that not everyone is good at golf, and there needs to be courses that total hacks can go play on, but those types of courses DO NOT charge 38$ rates. If this course had charged me 20$ or less I wouldnt be too upset. Also, anyone who has ever rated this course anything higher than a 1 is either terrible and has no clue, or works for the course. The 3.5 star rating on Google and golfnow is a terrible guideline to be giving people who havent played this course before. People like me just see 3.5 stars, 38$, and just assume they are going to be playing on a course thats at least reasonable and in decent shape, and what they get here is some whackamole type crap. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else, anywhere else really.

This is a great place for beginners to go to find their rhythm of golf. You can usually find discounts and special rates online for the weekdays that will usually negate some of the steep prices. The fairways and rough are pretty similar. They have the same length cut, but different grass types (it will look the same). The level of players around the course is generally lower than most places, so it allows a newer golfer to almost feel at home when they see how many shots are sliced, shanked, thinned, and misjudged. The greens are super slow! Always aim 15ft past the target on the green to allow it to get rolling. The atmosphere around the course is very mellow. The staff is usually friendly and accommodating, but there have been instances of very rude service. If you are new to the game of golf, this is the place for you. This will allow you to make mistakes in an environment that will accept and minimize those occurrences. You can struggle as much as you want and wont be severely judged. If you are an avid golfer, this place will drive you insane. Holes are not trimmed on the green, greens are super slow, not much creativity of shots. Rough fairways and trees everywhere

Played Pine Needles, Mid-Pines and Grove Park in last 3 weeks...1204 tee time day after Dads Day. Had course to ourselves. Let a single go thru at the turn. Lakeshores greens are in great shape, softer, slower, and you can stick em...with all the greens crew on hand the cups shouldve been trimmed better. Tees are ruff...but doable. Im not looking for perfection for $25. Sand was wet but playable-just be ready to dig deep. Wind conditions made course management key and cranked the challenge factor of the narrower fairways. HUGE value right around the corner. One week later: Greens in tip-top shape. Had to go white on 11 to stick the drive. Started at 7:30 and was off by 9:45...walking. Gonna miss this one bad.

That was my first and last trip to Lakeshore, as every other bargain course Ive played in the triangle has been significantly better than this. I only paid $25 for the round as a golfnow special so I didnt have high expectations, but these course conditions were appalling. As others have mentioned the fairways and rough are all mowed the same height and there is no distinction between the two. The fairways and fringe are mostly dirt with patches of grass. Hitting a pitch shot with any loft was rare as the ball was usually resting in packed dirt between small patches of grass. I found myself hitting better shots out of the pine straw as the conditions there were better than from the center of the fairway.

First off I have to say that I hated playing this course. I all but killed myself and my friend while trying to navigate their horrible cart paths. The cart paths asphalt has completely broken apart and is terrible to drive on. There is no dress code for this course so I guess I shouldnt have been surprised when the 2 people playing behind us in jeans and a t-shirt were constantly talking and yelling in my back-swing while I was trying to tee off. The amount of $$ they charge to play 18 holes with a cart is ridiculous. Looking at about $45 -$50 at peak times which is outrageous for what you experience there. With the number of better golf courses in the RDU area I can say wont ever go back!

Lake Shore is below average, at best. This course plays very short and the fairways and greens are terrible. The maintenance is so bad that there is no difference in the rough and the fairway. I used to visit this location to hit balls at the driving range but as I became a better golfer I did not want to hit off mats. It is also the case that the balls are hit into a lake so they are water logged and the distance is not accurate. If you want a driving range where you hit balls into the water this is a great place to go. If you want a course that is well maintained and a great layout this is not the place to go.

Played here last week, got a deal through last minute golfer. It was a fun course with a relaxed environment. The gentleman in the pro shop worked with me on my tee time since my friend was going to be a little late. Course was in pretty good shape. A few spots where the cart path was broken, but not nearly as bad as a lot of these reviews let on. Good pace of play, fairways and greens in pretty good shape. I would definitely play again.

The greens are nice, the fairways are hit or miss, and the older goateed gentleman who was in the clubhouse was a real jerk. Not sure if he is unhappy with his life but he was confrontational and accused us of being rude after we finished the 18th hole??? It was really strange since we had a relaxing day of golf with no groups near us. Anyways good luck to any of you that go play there, I am personally going to find a different place to play.
