I have been a customer for a long time and was on a first name basis with most of staff after having worked there, and I recently decided to use this restaurant as the back drop for my proposal to my longtime girl friend who also loves the restaurant but after this recent experience I will be hard pressed to ever come back. I made a reservation a week in advance for 815 expecting it to be busy and willing to snag a drink at the bar, when we arrived they were backed up and we gladly took up residence where we waited for 45 yes 45 mins with a reservation to be seated. When I walked up to the hostess to ask about our table apparently he had been ready for a while, and they were waiting on us WOULD HAVE BEEN GREAT TO KNOW but okay forgivable, The service and food were amazing if not very slow and took us over 2 1/2 hours to get through desert despite being ready to order almost immediately. When the time came to propose they were reasonably helpful I asked a bottle champagne be brought to the table and it was, went reasonably well. At this point its 11:15 and we havent paid so we ask for the check and that it be split. I am fine with paying but I would be lying if I didnt expect a small consideration given the occasion, but I did expect one due to the delays. There was none the check was very accurate and thats fine but HE AUTOGRATTED on a 4 top with a split check and this seriously put me off. It was an okay experience but I feel I overlooked several problems because "hey were all friends" but when im paying 100 percent and being auto gratted I expect better service delivered in a more timely fashion, I enjoyed my meal, I will likely return but this experience was not a positive one.

This was a massive disappointment. Our family traveled a great distance to North Carolina, and this restaurant was on our list before we even landed in the state. As a group of people who love Mediterranean cuisine we were left wondering if Chef Gene had ever been to the Mediterranean, or tasted the food he made before it was put on a menu. We ordered a cheese plate as an appetizer. The "plate" had two types of cheese on it, but there was only ONE SLICE OF EACH!!! I am not joking, one slice. We tried to split the plate between four people, and each of us were please with our bite of cheese, but unfortunately the plate cost $12 and was a tremendous letdown. Our entrees were OK, but certainly not worth the cost. We even gave a Blue chance at redemption by ordering dessert. We ordered the baklava and were unbelievably disappointed. How do you screw up baklava?!? I have had better baklava at a mall food court or gyro stand!! The ONLY redeeming quality of this place was the kindness and professionalism of the valet. I would never return, nor would I ever recommend anyone go here. Do yourself a favor and visit Bonterra, better food, better service, better wine and better atmosphere.

I went to Blue on a Sunday night, and the place was slammed. I sat at the bar, and the bartender took my order very quickly despite being very busy. All of the staff were very good with the volume, and clearly experienced with fine dining service. The wine menu is great - I had the Cigar Box malbec, paired with the enormous lamb shank, which was easily the best lamb shank Ive ever had. Perfectly cooked and tender, it was served on a bed of cous-cous, married with grilled apricots, two kinds of roasted dates, green olives, and some other things I dont remember, swimming in the au jous-like broth from the shank. Was that some lemon I detected in there too? WOW! Really, one of the top dishes Ive ever tasted. Atmosphere was very nice - sort of a modern/50s fusion in the decor, and the jazz band playing at the bar was not obtrusive, and was really good. Its not cheap, but not over-priced either. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone, over and over and over and . . .

My husband and I stayed in Charlotte for our anniversary and came across a restaurant that wasnt too far from our hotel...and it must have been fate, because I proceeded to eat some of the best food I have ever (and I mean EVER) tasted. Not only was the service prompt and friendly, but they even offered my husband and myself a free dessert for our special celebration! We began with the chickpea dusted calamari with kalamata olives and peppadew peppers with a lemon harissa dipping sauce, which was breathtakingly perfect. My husband then ate the wild boar on grits with lingonberry sauce and I had the sea bass, which melted in my mouth with every single bite. We finished off with a delectable pumpkin cheesecake and I almost went into a food coma. The best part? I was actually FULL. Rarely do I go to a fancy restaurant and actually get a NORMAL portion of food. I cant WAIT to go back, top ten in my book! A little pricey, but worth every single penny.

It was a very unfortunate dining experience. I ordered the filet without the blue cheese. When the steak arrived with the blue cheese on top I sent it back. Instead of making me a new steak, the chef just scraped the cheese off and had the manager deliver it to my table. Unfortunately, the taste of blue cheese is pervasive and the entire center of the steak still had the blue cheese flavor. I had three bites before I hit the blue cheese section. They did remove the entrée from my bill but I would have preferred to pay for a meal that I could eat as opposed to be given a free one that I could not. The waiter tried to smooth things over with a free dessert, but he did not allow me to choose my own dessert therefore add insult to injury by serving me the only dessert on their menu I would never order. Add the poor service to the food snafu and you have an epic fail. I won’t be back.

My wife and I had a "date night" at Blue, which ended up being a mistake. Our waiter had been given incorrect information on our reservation and thought it was our anniversary; after we told him it wasnt, he seemed rude and inattentive the rest of the night, as if it was a personal affront. We ordered from the restaurant week menu, getting arrancini, flat bread, salmon, and pork milanese. The artichokes were inedible; there were several pieces that were literally unchewable. That ruined the flatbread. The pork was soggy and perhaps undercooked; the salmon, by contrast, had a hard crust as if itd been left on the heat too long. The one bright spot was dessert; I had a rhubarb and strawberry tart, while my wife ordered strawberry bovarois. Both were decent, but it wasnt enough to redeem the extremely overpriced food and terrible service. We wont be back.

I walked in on a Monday night and the place was fairly slow. I sat at the bar for dinner-the decor is very nice, cool bar area with about 25 stools. The bartender was very good with the drinks and food knowledge. I started with a single order of cheese ($7.95)...humboldt fog which is a great creamy goats milk cheese with a touch of ash (yes, edible). The cheese came with some roasted pecans, jam, olives and a great honeycomb which paired well with the cheese and bread. A darn good value for $7.95. I ordered the lamb chops and roasted mushrooms as an entree and they were excellent. My only negative would be the portion of lamb chops...there were technically three chops but two of them were served together/joined ....almost like they skimped on the last one. They were delicious, so a minor complaint.
