I attended BMC when i was a young teen in the early 70s. The way to attend at that time (no idea how its done now) was to audition and then i had won a local scholarship for the full cost of tuition. There was testing upon arrival to see how far along in theory you were for placement. It was summer days filled with theory classes, group classes, private lessons, practicing for hours in little tiny portables in the woods along paths with pianos inside them.. learning new repertoire, and performance on the big stage. It was an eye-opening experience for me as well as other kids my age and older as you were taught with full immersion technique - eat, breathe, sleep music. The best part of it all was the professional musicians who would come to work with us and tell us of their beginnings. Peter Nero, Van Cliburn, Phyllis Diller were there the years that i attended, along with other musicians. Ms Diller started out her career as a concert pianist. We heard her story and how she went from the piano to comedy. - I spent 2 summers there. If any child shows interest in advancing in music, this is the place to go!
