The theatre itself is pretty neat, and they have a good selection of movies, but they definitely lack in customer service. I bought tickets for a special screening 3 months in advance, and my friends and I arrived about 30 mins early to ensure wed get a good seat. I set down my stuff and went to the restroom, and when I got back there was tape over my seat and a nearby employee explained that they needed a seat for their special guest, and that I would have to find a different seat (despite my friends trying to save the seat for me). There was no reservation sign on the seat when I originally sat there, yet I had no choice - and the only seat left was one at the very front far end. So not only did I have to sit alone, I had a pretty terrible view of movie as well. I understand that things happen, but they should have marked the seat reserved before-hand or at least have the courtesy to apologize for the inconvenience, which they did not. Felt very rude and pretentious overall. Will not be returning.

Film Forum is a terrific place. Its friendly, laid back, and for the most part has great films. (I left my cell phone in the bathroom there once, didnt discover it until they were closed, and it was in lost and found the next day.) Most importantly, they show classics and foreign films that are hard to find elsewhere. They have good coffee! Their food is decent -- FRESH popcorn, as opposed to what we get in so many theaters with stadium seating (which, yes, is nice). John Lahr autographed my copy of his new biography of Tennessee Williams there after a screening of Cat On A Hot Tin Roof earlier this month -- I know of no better New York City experience.

I like to support independent theaters which is partly why I came here. They have all the artsy indy movies you dont get at the big chains. The screen is small and there are too many seats. If you dont get there early you could be sitting in the back and then you wont see anything. They also have super bougie food. They dont even have butter for the popcorn. Dont get me wrong, if youre not into butter thats all fine and good but I want butter on my popcorn when I go to the movies. I think its not too much to ask to have the option.

i just discovered FILM FORUM. the programming is superb, the seats are comfortable, the prices are fair, the snacks are good, the staff is friendly and smart. and the audiences are enthusiastic and --- do you believe it?--- quiet and polite. the hitchcock and the truffaut festivals were terrific. this week ill be seeing one of my top ten films of all time: THE BEST YEARS OF OUR LIVES. i must have seen it over a dozen times already and i actually own a dvd copy, but i have never seen it in a theatre. cant wait.

They have a 1970s film fest. Each film they chose forms part of this well curated ensemble. I am so glad that Film Forum is part of the cultural life of the city. I come here about 4 or 5 times a year and am always looking at their offerings. Film Forum is one of the reasons I love living in Manhattan. Film forum is very smart in that it doesnt only market to the Art House types, but also tries to get new, emerging, film lovers in its doors. They have lots of offerings for kids and have a good diversity of movies.

I love this theater for the films you will not see anywhere else, but I wonder about the policy of not taking credit cards at the box office. This must result in a considerable loss of revenue. I was turned away the other day not having enough cash on me. As I had come a considerable distance I had to abandon the idea of seeing the film, and was not able to return in time to see it before it left the theater. To the powers that be at Film Forum - at least warn people on your web site of this.

Film Forum is a smidge of old New York hanging on. This isnt a Times Square multiplex. The theaters and screens are small, but thats where youll find excellent first-run independent and foreign films, as well as classics. They often include Q&A sessions or introductions by people associated with the film. The staff is friendly and they serve popcorn without fake-butter coloring and flavoring. Locals with an ID NYC can get a free membership, with which movies only cost eight bucks.

El personal es amable. Las palomitas son buenas, pero tienen demasiado aceite. No sé cómo sean otras salas de cine en NYC, pero ésta me pareció pequeña y además, había a un costado unas columnas que podían llegar a interferir la vista a la pantalla.

A New York gem - the only place to see old, independent or arts movies. They regularly have seasons on famous directors e.g. Hitchcock, Truffaut, Renoir etc and Ive seen some amazing movies there Id have never thought to go and see because other cinemas only operate on a Big Release basis. Community funded and just one of those magical institutions you hope stays around for ever. Great pop corn too!

Loved the great selection of films on show that you cant find anywhere else. Loved also the intimate theatres with their small capacity. Didnt love the fact that we had to wait around for 20 minutes in the cramped lobby because the screening was running late. Tip: buy your tickets online! You will not regret it when you see all the other poor punters lined up when you get there.

Listen, the tickets arent cheap and the theaters are tiny but the movies they show are next level and when youre in one of those tiny theaters and you can hear 70 people gasping with you at a Raoul Peck movie it lifts you up. Warning: they have no butter for the popcorn, its alright with just the salt but I would rather go without. Get an egg cream though!

This place is very precious. Plays old classics that are restored to 4K, plays new films that are often great films, they have a number if theaters, their lobby is very cool with a snack bar and ESPRESSO. Theres a little machine to watch trailers with headphones and clean bathrooms and everything that makes a theater a 2nd home...and popcorn!

When I first moved to New York, I had no friends...but I did pick up a membership at Film Forum. So what did I do after work when everyone else was out and about? Sneak beer into the movies for a night of film-fueled fun. The movies are more hits than misses, and it frequently shows off-the-radar films you can see anywhere else.

The Film Forum is a classic independent theater that shows some of the best art house, indie, and classic films. While its one of the older and smaller theaters, its still well kept and comfortable. I recently went to a 4k restoration for Tampopo and they partnered with Lucky Peach to create a ramen flavored popcorn!

Fifteen dollars to watch movies in a television screening room. Not worth the effort. Take a Path ride to Jersey City instead and go to The Landmark Loews Jersey Theatre. They only charge eight dollars, and The Landmark Loews is an old-fashioned movie palace. They run all their films in 35mm. The screen is HUGE!
