The Movie Cinema in South Orange NJ is a movie theatre that has a few large movie theatres and a number of small intimate theatres. Some are extremely small so be early to get a good seat near the center. On the hand the smaller theaters pretty much have good seats since being small means you pretty much are not far from the center. The acoustics are excellent no matter what size seating arrangement. The service is pretty good, meaning the overall theater and rest rooms are always clean and you will get on and off the ticket line rather quickly. The concession stand prices are high so not much to say there. Overall no matter when I went I have always had a great experience.

Pretty good theater. Staff is nice though one guy was high when we went to see a movie on 4/20/16 but it was 4.20 so its expected. Theaters are clean HOWEVER, the theaters are extremely SMALL. The seats are also pretty close to the screens. Its not remotely unbearable or uncomfortable, you just wont get the best "movie theater" experience. The location is great, its right by the South Orange train station and theres plenty of places to eat nearby. Safe area with a large parking lot. Its a shared parking lot, so it can be difficult to find a spot. Recommended for casual viewing but I wouldnt watch Star Wars here unless you dont mind the small theater space.

Though parking is a pain here due to sharing a small lot with the train station, the cinema is compact but comfortable. It shares space with the arts center. The concession stand and theatres are fairly small, but it makes for less noise and distraction during a movie. They are missing more common features like stadium seating and imax screens, but the seats are comfortable and sound is excellent. The chairs are pretty low and recline far, so it’s almost like lying down. Picture quality and sound are great though the screens are not huge. It’s a nice small town option compared to the multiplexes around the area.

Went to a 1:45pm show on a Tuesday for $6. Cheap price. Parking was near impossible and ended up parking in a two hr spot, risking a ticket. The screen was a little too much to the left (theater 3) and the people in it were talking occasionally which was annoying. It seemed as if there might be a fight for a moment. What kind of theatre is this? Also, the theatre smelled a little like a cross between fake buttered popcorn and vomit. But just slightly. Maybe its me. Its probably just me. My friend didnt agree with that observation. Otherwise, the people working there are nice and the price is fair.

The place is big with lots of local art hanging about. The different levels can be confusing to navigate but the staff is helpful and can always point you in the right direction. If youre not a fan of children/big families/teens at your movies maybe try a different spot because its close to so many middle and high schools. The theaters are a medium to small size depending and are normally clean! The seats are comfortable but not recliners. Overall this place is convenient and has a lot of movie options but not my favorite theater.

I saw "The Falsettos" a taping of the broadway musical and attended a talk back with one of the broadway actors upstairs in a meeting room. the theatre was small, which i like, but also there was a broken seat in the corner. the meeting room had moveable chairs and was not overly well suited to the event, it was not easy to see the speaker because the floor is not raked. overall, not bad. parking outside is free after 7pm

Caught a pretty good movie there some time ago but walked out halfway through. This is a pretty lousy movie theater... be ready to pay full prices to sit in a living room-sized movie theater with a home-theater sized screen surrounded by unusually loud/rowdy people. You couldnt pay me enough to go there again. The only good thing about this theater is the location, near a train station and surrounded by high-end retail

Although the theatres may be a bit smaller than your conventional town theatre, the staff are nice and the sound in the theatres is always great. Some will blame their bad review on the loudness of the people in the theatre, but this happens extremely rarely and only when obnoxious kids are by themselves. I also could not be happier with $6 tickets on Tuesdays!

From Theatre 5: This place can become so crowded that it is hard to find a seat. To go further into the front one only have a single aisle option; otherwise others would have to maneuver out of the way inconveniently just to provide a free seat. To fully enjoy the experience the movie has to be really good.

Very enjoyable experience if you go to a showing when it isnt as busy as usual. I do not believe the employees are emotionally equipped to handle high volumes of costumers. The rating of 4 is because they have amazing popcorn and its a nice and cozy little movie theater, very intimate.

Neat cinema idea/complex, but the actual theater interior could use some updating. The one we were in smelled very bad and desperately needed some freshening. The staff was nice and the bathrooms were clean. Lots of parking available at night too.

Good selection of movies, reasonably clean theaters and bathrooms, seats arent bad either. Of course the snacks are overpriced (we buy all our snacks at Ashley market across the street) but Ive never had a bad experience here.

The decent movie theater. No huge reclining chairs or anything like that but the staff is always nice, its always clean and the crowd is always nice. Popcorn is usually hot when its handed to you. Cant ask for more than that.

Its a nice place to watch movies because it close to the university, but the decor is very outdated and the one chair that I was sitting on was broken, the leaning part was broken and I almost fell over.

This is a nice option when you dont want to trek to the bigger multiplexes and they usually have the top movies. They also cater to families. I do wish they would rearrange thier seating.

It was okay. The seating in my theater was oddly arranged in such a way that many desirable seats went to waste as they were too difficult for many to get to them

The theatres, specifically the seats and carpets are disgusting. The stench is unbearable. Needs desperately deep cleaning better year new carpet and seat covers.

Nice and quaint. Not your excessively commercialized movie theater. The particular theater that we were in held maybe 50 people, which was a nice change of pace.

Home town theater, but get your tickets quick, popular movies tend to sell out - very convenient locale and wonderful dining options before and after the show.

The movie theatre is cozy, pretty decent selection of movies but the staff was rude. They behaved like hood rats who escaped the hood.

Decent local theater. I recommend going on Tuesdays for the discount tix. Some of the theaters are pretty small so beware.
