I should have read the reviews before going here, but I was looking for specific fish (and non specific) and was trying to check pretty much every fish store in the city. When my husband and I tried "The Fish Shop," it became almost immediately apparent that we werent going to find anything we wanted there. The small shop was filled with stacks of empty tanks, along with tanks filled with water and no fish. The fish that were present were very sparsely stocked, with close to nothing from which to choose. When we walked in, the owner (big guy with huge gauged ears) pretty much ignored us while he was having a conversation with someone he knew (someone else had come in at the same time and they took their time BSing while my husband and I waited for any kind of assistance). When he FINALLY directed his attention to us, he treated us both like he didnt want anyone in the store. The owner asked me what I was looking for, and I told him Im looking for cichlids, because I just restarted my aquarium and wanting to get back into cichlids and aggressive community tanks. When I asked him if he had chinese algae eaters he said no.. When I asked him if he had oscars he said no. When I asked him if he had snails, he said no. When he told me he didnt have oscars, he went on to say that his oscars (when he has them in) are "far more expensive than Id be used to." Excuse me? Did he really just assume what my income bracket was? I felt incredibly insulted that this person would try to tell me that I couldnt afford an oscar from his store, treating me like Im someone who doesnt know anything about the aquarist hobby. At least he did do one good thing: He directed me to try another fish store in town, which turned out to have everything I needed. So he definitely lost another customer that he foolishly didnt want. I dont know what this guys deal is, but I dont recommend his store. The whole setup looks like he isnt really running a fish store at all, just a building with SOME fish that hes not interested in really selling. And with his attitude and assumptions on whether or not people can afford the fish he doesnt even have, Id rather risk getting an ich-infested fish at PetCo (and thankfully I didnt have to). I dont know if this business is brand new and hes just figuring things out, or if the owner is a legitimately terrible business-owner.. Whatever the situation is, I wont be going back there. Treating your potential customers like theyre broke and ignorant is a very quick way to watch your business go belly-up. Pun intended.

So, my post may be long but Ive been through a lot.. I went to Petco one day for dog treats, only to see the most beautiful fighter fish at the register, i just HAD to buy him, so I did, along with a 2.5 gallon tank and all the awesome accessories.. I get him home and slowly his health starts to get worse and quick.. I ran out and got a 10 gallon, with all new accessories, bigger and better, a hammock, lots of bamboo for him to rest in and floating plants and all the goodies, a proper light for plants.. I then decided to give him a community, and bought a bunch of new fish from petco, I introduced them to the tank and they all quickly came down with lots of stuff, from Ick, to velvet, to parasites under the gills, cysts under the molls back, tetra disease, they had every parasite possible... I had many many casualties... the strong have survived but after TONS of research, I tried the medication method, from the store, my fish began pinging across the tank and slamming into the walls of the tank, flipping out and literally 3 different fish jumped out of the water and I came home to find them on the floor dried up and threw them back in and they somehow survived.. anywhoo, after tons of frustration and tears, I found The Fish Shop, I went in and they were about to close but the guy there was more then willing to help me, he GAVE me some of his special stuff for the tank to help kill the parasites, and he told me about the special food he makes, its soaked in Garlic, which is one of the best things to kill parasites with, so I put the home made medicine he gave me into my tank, and watched the fish perk right up, i then fed them the food, and after a few weeks of phone calls to him, which he was more then willing to help me each time I called crying or bombarding him with questions lol and I managed to treat the fish the best at 80 degrees as he recommended, I feed them the garlic food two small times a day, and treat them with copper (use precaution), and of course aquarium salt and now they are all starting to look and feel amazing, thank you so much for your help, I look forward to watching your new business grow, you are far more knowledgable then any of the shops ive visited in Henderson.

We purchased some fish for our tank to start back up our tank again over a month ago and were pleased with what we got. However, we have been back 3 times to purchase some more, wanting to add more colorful fish and each time we were told to come back after Tuesday when they received their orders as they did not have any in. For the past 3 weeks, we have come in to see if they have any and we get the same response each time "come back in after Tuesday". Not one time, did they take down our name or phone number to let us know about their shipment. Each time we came in we saw the same person who acted like it was out first time coming in when asking the same question. We even called this past Thursday as they are closed on Wednesday and were told to come in they had a new shipment of fish with our specifications. When we came in, again, nothing had come in. We have given up on going here to purchase anymore fish. We thought it would be nice having a neighborhood fish store without driving 20 miles to Trop-aquarium, but due to the customer service received we went back to Trop-aquarium this weekend to purchase additional fish and are very happy.

Ive been coming to the fish shop since they opened. Im not much for reviews but seeing is how there are a few reviews on here that are just not true, I decided its time for mine. First off if you want overpriced undersized coral frags dont go here. If you are not sure what a specific coral cost or the name. Look it up online. 9 times out of 10 Mikes price ( the owner) is well below the retail price. 10th time it is sold before you can grab it lol. The Fish Shop offers beginner corals and fish up to expert corals and fish. There have been a few times Ive been in the shop and seen mike writing down a customers request due to a certain fish not being in stock. If you dont see the fish you want all you have to do is ask him to order you one. As far as prices go on fish they are fair to the prices found around town. And well below a few places on the SW side. as far as the negative reviews go. Dont listen to them go see for yourself The Fish Shop is a great place for all your aquatic needs.
