Spring Meadow Lake State Park is the crown jewel among all the local parks. It is close to town, so people who cant go too far afield on their own (kids, for instance) can get there on foot or by bicycle. The lake itself is also a gem - it is usually clear and it is always deep, cold, spring-fed and full of fish that everybody and anybody can try to catch. Helena is blessed with abundant parks and lots of nearby venues for outdoor fun, but compared to any other urban parks and fishing spots anywhere, Helenas Spring Meadow Lake State Park cannot be beat.

Overall a very nice place to hangout with friends family. I dont recommend more than a group of 15 as the lake can be quite busy in good weather. A portion of the lake can be quite murky if you dont care for that much but the other, quite larger portion is very nice and great for kayaks and boats. Fishing is common there but dont expect a fish to be large or frequent. There is a very nice trail that surrounds the park that I find nice to jog.

Lots of smallies in the water. Lots of people, too. And an insane number of ants on the shoreline - we had to stand in the water to avoid bring covered in ants. Fishing was mediocre at best. Probably wont be back.

There is a beach for the small ones, and a walking trail, and fishing. Unfortunately, this place just hasnt been the same ever since local idiot jerkoff Chad Truscott burned most of it down in 2007.

A very fun summer place to take children, or just hang out to swim or fish. In the winter, or any season, it is also a good place to stroll around the lake!

A local favorite for swimming, fishing and birding with a nice grilling and picnic pavilion. Too bad they dont allow dogs April to October!

I like to kayak, canoe ans swim at Spring Meadow Lake. It is a State Park. Free- if you have Montana plates on your car.
