We went to Ameristar for New Years Eve 2014/ 2015. The casino experience was great. After switching a few dealers to get a decent one with a personality of course! His name was Matt and he was very nice and made the night fun. The casino had excellent entertainment and was handing out party favors to ring in the new year. Now why I only gave it three stars, I suggest if you go to this Casino to eat before hand. First we went to Ameria Sports bar. We stood at the hostess station for a good ten minutes so we decided to move to the bar. It was 9:30 so they were a little busy but not busy enough to ignore customers. All we wanted was acknowledged. Instead we sat at the bar for over twenty minutes without one word said to us. My fiancé even said can we get served? And all we got was ignored. The one bartender was sitting and checking out women walking by. The other was helping customers but one of his buddies walked in and got immediate service. We were so disgusted we got up and walked out. First off you dont go to a Casino to eat dinner, at least I dont. So after sitting at a bar for thirty minutes and getting zero service we decided to move along to another restaurant. We went to Pearls Oyster Bar. we got seated immediately once again at the bar. We waited ten minutes before getting our drinks ordered. The service was just okay. The dinner for myself and my fiance was $75. If I pay almost $100 for a dinner I want good service. The waiter never went out of his way. We always had to ask for a refill. Overall our experience at both resturaunts was way below impressive. It was awful. At least we got served at the oyster bar but it was below McDonalds customer service. I wish I couldve just reviewed the restaurants. The experience at the casino was good though thanks to our dealer. He deserves a raise. The tables were crowded and they only had a couple $10 tables. The rest were $15 and up. Of course I expected this because it was a busy night for them to rake in the cash. The cocktail servers were average. We had one come by probably every 45 minutes on average. The thing that aggravated me about them is our drinks were always a different price and we always got the same thing. I believe they had 3-4 different live bands and all kinds of entertainment. People walking around in costumes and acting. That was a nice touch. The crowd was not to bad. There was plenty of room to move around. One thing I wish they wouldve done differently was the count down to midnight. I was at the black jack table having a good time so I didnt even realize it was midnight or even close to it. I was pretty close to one of the bands and in the middle of one of their songs they stopped singing and counted down from 10. I wish they wouldve gave us a little heads up maybe a one minute warning or something. I would have been greatly disappointed if my fiance would have been in a different part of the casino at the strike of midnight. Overall our experience was good besides the restaurants of course. But I think a lot of that had to do with our fun dealer and a couple of nice people we met at the tables. I would recommend going to Ameristar on New Years Eve or any other time just skip the restaurants. We had fun! They throw a great New Years Eve party!

This review is strictly for Horizons Buffet, as there is not option to leave a review for just the buffet. I used to love this buffet when it was called "The Feast Around the World" back in the days of Station Casino. It seems that since the switch from one to other, they have downsized the food options, and made everything smaller. This wasnt the best idea in the world. The claim to fame used to be the HUGE salad bars on both sides of the buffet. They were massive and had amazing salad options. For those of us who truly enjoy salad, this was a great treat. Since the remodel they have decided to move one of the food outlets (The Mexican Side) and put the salad bar in that location. Now the salad bar is tiny with very few options. Just a very standard salad bar. One star removed for that happening. The remaining food stalls remain great in food quality. it irritates me that they decided to combine the Italian and Mexican into one area. This seriously limits the food that is served here. The pizza is still amazing, but there is very little "mexican" food over here, with the exception of tortilla chips and salsa. The BBQ, Farmers Market, and Chinese section remain excellent. All in all the food choices are amazing, and this is above average buffet style food. There service however is the main downfall for this buffet. It is AWFUL. Good luck getting refills on the beverages, as it simply WONT happen. It also takes them a LONG time to clear plates. This becomes a problem when you have a table with 8 people dining. The other major issues I have is the lack of a restroom in the actual restaurant itself. If you have to use the restroom you need to exit the buffet, and walk quite a distance to the front of the casino area. This is a HUGE inconvenience, as my elderly parents have a difficult time walking, and it is a very long distance for them to walk. This combined with a lack of service quality removes one more of the stars.

Terrible customer service! These people do not care about their customers. Especially when you call them. My family (in-laws) go here frequently for the free rooms. Its no wonder the rooms are free. There is nothing special about this hotel. They do not have a pool. They do not have any place for anyone to work out. In all honesty I would rather stay at a Holiday Inn. I made the terrible mistake of forgetting a prized possession. When I called them to try to retrieve it, they told me it has been "thrown away". Now, this upsets me very much. Hotels have access to your personal information. They know which customer has inhabited which room, because they literally need an ID for you to even get into their rooms. Plus, we are registered with there "My Play Card" or whatever its called. They could have easily contacted me or my husband. But they do not care about people, they care about money. Again, this Ameristar Casino does not care about their customers in the slightest! The bathrooms are dingy, the furniture and every room I have ever stayed in looks dirty and reaks of cigarette smoke. There were burn holes in the carpet, and the bathrooms were pathetic. The bath tub is scaly and rough, so good luck trying to take a bath without scratching your skin..Awful. They will happily take your money, along with your possessions. I dont recommend this hotel for anyone, it is not "excitement at every corner", lol. If anything it is a fancy motel. Go a mile down the road to Harrahs or Isle of Capri. Youre better off.

Tonight me and my wife stopped in to have a beer. I went to the sports bar, my wife went and done her own thing. I walked into the sports bar, at the bar mostly all the bar counter was filled with dirty areas. I walked around the bar to find a cleaning area, nothing. So I sat down and waited for service and I still waited for service. Finally he said can I help you as they were cleaning the area I was sitting, no clean washcloth to wash my area. I said to him, if I was wearing a dress you would have helped me. ( chip and Dales was there tonight). He told me he didnt have time to clean those areas up yet! Yeah I know because they werent even around! So I did not get noticed. I ordered a red zone. He said we dont have it here, okay what do you got. So had me tried a taste test beer. Nasty! So I told him so. He turned his back on me. I said to myself already then and I walked out.. I went into the casino and got a red zone beer there, the beer was nasty. I had this beer many times in the past. It was good beer. My wife showed up to have the hardball beer she said it was nasty. She also had this beer in the past. All, said and done we left and I in her was hungry and thirsty and disappointed. Thats our story and sticking with it! P. S. Stay away from those tap beers they taste like vinegar.. even the bartender said there is complaints about the beer. But why do they keep on serving it!!!!
