Writing review for my first trip to the pOker room on 12-29-2011. Atmosphere is fine. Decent bar area. Holdm options are as good as Minnesota law will really allow. I like that they have sit and go which most Minny places dont have. The bad parts really turned me off. Dealers were very distracted and could be snippy, no rotations of dealers that I saw. The dealer we had kept calling the TD over for hypothetical questions that were not related to the current hand or game. This would have been fine if she kept dealing but she didnt She would stop dealing to talk. The first time she wasted a minute of blind time until the players complained. She did it agian a few minutes later and the table had to tell her to deal because of raising blinds. A tourney director was giving out orders to staff but they kept correcting him because he didnt know the sit and go structure and payouts. I would hate to see what would of happened if he was ordering around a new dealer. Here is my biggest complaint. Tourney director let a regular at the room flip over the cards for the seating draw until the regular got a seat he wanted. This was right in front of me and the director. The regular was even complaining to the director that he could nit find the seat he wanted because it was taken. I called foul and stated that everyone should have the same rules apply and he shouldnt be allowed to pick his seat if others are not able too. Director stated the the regular didnt get to pick his seat even though I watched him. I thought there was a chance maybe I saw the whole thing wrong wrong so I let it go. That same guy picked the chair he wanted in the next sit and go. He did it on front of a dealer. I know that picking chairs is small bussness but I dont know what other rules they are willing to bend for people they know so I left.

I am reviewing Canterbury Park because I can tell they dont care what I have to say when I am there. I wish there were a way to give it zero stars just for the poker room. I hope they dont get a Racino because they treat people like garbage. They still make people post. They are no longer giving hats for straight flushes. Go to Las Vegas or even Running Aces and you will have a better experience. Instead of being happy that you are there, Canterbury treats customers like they are lucky they have a place to play. The dealers are jerks. They never say, "Welcome to the table." They are mean and even sometimes abusive to the people who play there. I also remember a male security guard staring down my wife as we drove into the parking lot because people were not following directions they way he wanted them to. Employees should not intimidate customers, especially women. The reason I am writing this review is because when ever I complain, they seem to get angry and they defend themselves. Here is a new idea Canterbury: LISTEN TO YOUR CUSTOMERS! TREAT THEM LIKE YOU WANT THEM TO BE THERE! Maybe they do get tired of customers complaining and being grumpy. Well, if the customers were treated decently when they walked into the door or sat at a table, maybe they wouldnt get so many complaints. I love gambling and casinos, but I will not support a Racino at Canterbury until they start treating people decently in the poker room. I would rather see the money go somewhere else.

As with any gambling establishment, many people leaving one star reviews are probably upset they lost money. I want to be objective as possible with my take on Canterbury, and I think I can, for I have neither won nor lost a significant amount here. The variety of blackjack they offer is nice, with some interesting takes I havent seen many places elsewhere. The minimum bets usually arent too high either (around $10 when Ive been there) which makes for a nice experience. For the bad now: the premises need some SERIOUS renovations. As a casino, they have no excuse for the outdated look they sport in their eating and drinking areas. Even the TVs were underwhelming. The food is also, for the most part, not good. I really wished they had better, more fresh options in their indoor cafeteria. Most food youll find here is concession quality. That being said, watching the horse races is fun, especially as a family activity. Its much better to come here for the races, but unless you want to play Texas hold em, I would stick with Mystic Lake for your gambling needs.

My husband and I really enjoy Canterbury Race Track, in Shakopee, MN. Id give it 5 stars if they still allowed you to bring your picnic items in. On very hot days, we drink a lot of water & buying it there, cost an arm & a leg. I only have 2 each of those. I dont get hungry on hot days, but when I do get hungry, food cost even more. But this place is so much fun, we just try to budget the best we can to include it. Entry cost went up a couple $ either this year, or last year, but its still affordable entertainment, except for the food & drinks. Canterbury is great at promotional features; Bull dog, wiener dog, exotic animals competitions. They have "Buck Night," wine and beer tasting days, live music some days & nights, free hot dog days, etc. There is a play place for kids and special family days. If you register for their race card, free, they send you updates, bulletins, calendars, free tickets, etc, plus you get discounts, free racing programs, etc. Great place!

One of the most exciting and customer-oriented race track and entertainment destination youll find in the country. Exciting live racing takes place nearly half of the year filled with tons of attractions, food selections, and a wide assortment of craft beers. The park is family friendly and even have designated family days where there are ton of attractions to keep your kiddies busy. And when you are looking for something new to try...go downstairs to the main level and check out the full-fledged table games casino area and try your luck at Poker, Pai Gow, Blackjack, and more! The Card Casino is open year-round and always offers an exciting time during the offseason where everyone is eligible to be entered in drawings for FREE CASH and PRIZES. If you havent yet, be sure to come check out Canterbury Park and see what it has to offer today!

Canterbury Park has all the basics of a good horse track, so dont expect upscale or extras. They do a good job with the actual horses and racing, but the facilities are very sparse, dated and at times not clean. They have been partnering now with the casino up the street and most of that money is going towards the horses, but Id really like to see their interior areas updated. The floors are peeling in some places, the furniture is classic 1985 in many areas, there are odd corners and curtains and overall a strange flow to some of the floors. They did update some areas over the winter, but not enough to make that overall impression. Again, the people that work there are nice and really do a great job with the horses and races, its just the f/b operations and facility that gives this a OK rating.
