This is a challenging course with great scenery. Make sure to bring enough balls because youll lose several unless youre a scratch golfer. Its usually in good condition other than the rock hard greens which cause approach shots to bounce extremely high in the air and roll to the back of the green. Ive played the course several times over the years and this is always the case no matter the time of year. The speed of the greens for putting is also quite a bit slower than most low handicappers would prefer. If they ever fix the greens, which seems unlikely, this would be one of my favorite courses.

Didnt always love this tract, but over the years, with ownership change, it has become challenging with bailout areas on every hole. Greens are pristine & undulated & a welcome change to most flat & boring putting experiences. The pro shop staff is friendly & helpful, especially with the usual anxieties when visiting a new course. Food & drink specials offered all summer long. In all, a scenic, quiet & exceptional golfing experience. We will surely be no stranger the rest of the summer at the Refuge.

Challenging course, in great shape, fun design and overall very fun. We found there are no water coolers for players on the course at all and the cart girls do not start until 11am in the morning. I guess you just need to bring your own beverages to be prepared. Pretty annoying. Overall a good course for a reasonable price, next time im bringing a cooler. Adan

Great course with spectacular views & the up north feel without driving too far north! You can make it as challenging as you want with 5 tee boxes for all levels of play. Nice practice areas! (Range, putting green & chipping area) The staff was wonderful & the food was great! Worth the drive. Thanks,

The course is in great shape. The layout is very challenging. Maybe too much so for my liking (Im a pretty decent golfer too) but I would play again sometime. Some blind tee shots, long carries off the tee, narrow fairways... Its not easy thats for sure. Clubhouse looks awesome.

Nice course ... poorly managed. No enforcement of slow play or pace of play. No sense of urgency from the wait staff on the turn, and the cart girls drive all over mid swing. They need to teach them course management when out there.

The course is a nice design and used to kept up well but the last few years the greens are beat up. The staff treats you well but the course has the slowest play around. Plan on over five hour rounds. Overall, not a good value.

We think the course is beautiful and difficult. I dont have long drives so I have to play from the white tees opposed to green tees to be able to carry some of the wetlands.

Love the course but the pace of the game is TOO DAMN SLOW. 5 hours to play 13 holes....we finally give up the last 5 holes. Ranger need to start enforceing pace of game.

Hands down my favorite course. Their Groupon deal is the best on golf. Grab a early breakfast and make the drive, Im guessing 35-45 min from mpls and week worth it.

Beautiful kept greens and overall beautiful course, but they could work on having better golf carts. No hurry lol its so worth playing seriously!

All around good course . One of the best deals on groupon . Nice club house . Good prices . The back 9 is surrounded by marsh and well tended to.

The course was very nice. The employees were less than nice. We were treated rather rudely for a minor issue. There are better values out there.

Very playable course for all levels. Completed round in 4 hours and the course was busy. Great senior rate on Wednesday with cart included.

Nice setting with lots a marshes. If you play from the tips, a few 200+ forced carries over hazards. Definately a challenging round .

Up north, resort course feel. One of best northern Twin Cities metro area courses that Ive played. Was in great shape.

Love the layout. Makes you use all the clubs in your bag and has risk reward type holes. Was in great shape.

Other than being misquoted the price for 18 with a cart over the phone (51 vs 61) it was a great experience
