The short: Overall, the hotel itself was very nice. My fiance and I found the bed extremely comfortable and both fell asleep on it instantly. However, I cant say Id suggest Hotel Commonwealth unless you must be in Kenmore Square. The staff isnt properly trained and they invaded our privacy despite us turning down housekeeping both with the door sign and verbally. The long (for our 2 night stay): We called the day before our reservation to see if itd be possible to do early check-in, but they told us to call back on the day of our reservation. We called 3 times that morning (spaced out by an hour each) and they couldnt give us an estimate. To be expected, they were insistant that wed get a room if we upgraded- clearly advertised for each call. At the end of the last call, we asked to be contacted the moment they had a room available for us. In the meantime, we stayed with family at Buckminster for an additional hour. When we went over to ask in person, it turns out they had several rooms available. To make it worse, they knew we were part of the wedding, and we needed to get ready for the rehearsal. The main issue was with housekeeping. Housekeeping came around 11am and asked if we wanted turndown service. We politely said no and received new towels. We left the sign on the door saying we didnt want service (black side facing out) when we headed out at 2:30pm. When we came back that night, housekeeping had made our bed, gave us new towels, threw out/taken some our bags we brought to organize our clothes and protect formal dresses, a tuxedo and a suit, and moved my undergarments I had left on the bed. We felt so violated. I had brought extra dresses that came in zip bags and hung them for the wedding for backup and housekeeping had thrown those bags out. I didnt wear a couple of the dresses, so hopefully I can still return them without the original packaging. Im so appalled by the violation of our privacy, and hope that this was an outlier in their housekeeping service. We called the front desk to request late check-out since we had a post-wedding brunch hosted at Hotel Commonwealth that ended at noon. They told us the latest we could stay is 1pm which was perfect for us. They abruptly hung up on us after we gave our room number which was strange and rude. At 12:46pm, someone from the hotel (not housekeeping) came knocking at our door and told us that it was past check-out. Apparently whoever was working the night before (June 2, 2017) at the front desk didnt record that we had been granted complimentary late check-out. The rooms are very nice though. Theyve been updated a few years ago based on the chipped paint and minor dings around the room, but tasteful contemporary decor. The carpet and bed seemed clean and our room had a mini fridge which came in handy.

My wife and I visited for a short vacation (concert/ play) and were lucky enough to get an executive suite at the hotel. I had heard great things but never had a chance to stay. To begione with, the location is ideal. Within walking distance to many attractions, next to the Kenmore T-station and within 4 stops of all T lines. The rooms are great. Cozy beds, nice amenities, excellent room service and a cleaning staff that is immaculate. The service level is top 1%. At 11:15 on a Wednesday, my wife and I decided we wanted to go to a burger joint on the South Shore to watch the World Cup at noon. The T didnt really get you there and a cab would have been big $$$ with no guarantee wed get one on the way back. We called Nick at the font desk and within 20 minutes we had a town car to take us to the spot and wait for us. There was a standard cost associated with it, but it was reasonable and the treatment was four star. We got our burger, saw a great game and have a fun story to tell. That was one of a handful of times Nick took care of us, so were big fans of his. Next time back in Boston, we wont even consider another hotel.

Not entirely clean. No amenities, ie: room coffee pot or microwave, complimentary or continental breakfast, free wine nightcap, etc. Spent 5 nights and paid over $3,000 for the view of the marathon route which was pretty much all I received. Outside the marathon, the view was not a good visual that being a covered bus stop. Others in my family who stayed there had NO good views and still spent premium prices. When asked about the accommodations at the desk, I told them about the disappointing lack of cleanliness. I was assured that they would take care of the problem. That was the last I heard from them while they avoided acknowledging my presence and no eye contact. The next day after returning from an outing, the conditions remained the same but with the added surprise of finding someone had urinated in the commode without flushing. I did not complain for fear of the next days cleaning revenge, plus Id already seen the result of their "attention." The staff was friendly but ineffectual when it came actual services. I left feeling taken advantage of. I would never stay there again nor recommend it.

If anyone is looking for a great deal on hotels you can check it out on HotelRaven. com Booked this hotel on there and they had the cheapest rates around... The Hotel Commonwealth was conveniently located on Comm Ave in Boston. I had tickes for a show at the Symphony Theater later that evening. Upon arriving, Valet made haste to ensure bags and my vehicle were taken care of. Early check-in wasnt an issue and I was able to get a room almost immediately. The room was clean and contemporary, a true reflection of the hotel itself. Staff was friendly and accommodating (very professional, swift room service, etc). My only gripe was the lack of a coffee machine in our room. Not a big deal really. Im sure the staff would take care of that if needed. Theres two nice restaurants attached to the hotel as well. While we ate elsewhere, I had drinks at both. Good selections of beer and liquor all around, although my gin and tonic was a little flat. Buxom amount of gin though, again no biggie. Overall my experience was pleasant and Id recommend this hotel for sure.

A great, well located hotel with fantastic facilities. The two restaurants (Island Creek and Eastern Standard) are both excellent, as is the Hawthorne cocktail bar. In the Boston Winter you will be relieved to have all of these accessible without venturing outside! The room service comes from these restaurants and quality of food is very high. Both times I stayed this year I had a Junior Suite room which by European standards is vast. The room includes a huge work desk area, two televisions and even a Google Nexus tablet running a guest information app. Other in room facilities are an ironing board, small safe and easily accessible power points. A coffee is maker is not included as standard but you can request one on check-in and a Keurig machine will be brought to your room. During 2015 there are a lot of works at the hotel to build an extension with more rooms. Also the fitness centre is currently being refurbished at the time of writing and is closed, the staff can direct you to a nearby alternative.
