Went to see Jack Johnson tonight. Went early and got lawn seats but they must have oversold the tickets because we were shoulder to shoulder with the people around us. A family came after the opening and sat in the little space that was around us. They brought a small bottle of alcohol from outside and asked the woman next to them if they could use her cup to mix their own drink. They were all obviously very intoxicated before the concert and were extremely confrontational. After learning that my friend was involved with law enforcement, they told him to f*** off and then started smoking concentrated weed. We left immediately. Because the lawn was packed with people it was difficult to get out. Once we did, we were on the opposite side of the venue and asked two volunteers how we could get to the other side. They told us we could enter the upcoming enterance and walk along the fence. At the enterance we had our bags checked and the supervisor scanned our tickets. My ticket was okayed but my fiances was not. We told him multiple times that we were just trying to get to the other side. After the doorman became rude and aggressive questioning us about how we got our tickets, I exclaimed "we are JUST TRYING TO LEAVE." He finally then just said we couldnt renter and had to walk through the woods behind the venue to get to the other side. Also the amount of over serving alcohol was mind blowing. Neither of us had any idea that the constant irresponsible flow of booze would turn a chill concert into a rowdy diver bar. Worst experience Ive ever had at a concert. I can not believe how unmanaged this event was and the lack of enforcement for this many people. We will NOT be going back. Never even got to see the concert. Plus, this event was green friendly but serving plastic containers?

MPP is a really fantastic venue for those that enjoy outdoor concerts. I usually go for the lawn seats since they are cheaper and its more of a "festival feel" being out in the lawn (NOTE: if there are a lot of pavilion seats still available when the show starts, they start letting lawn seat people in) . However, you are open to the elements should it start raining or anything else when out in the lawn (the pavilion is covered). Also, you have to show up early for most concerts if you want a decent seat. If its only you or one other person, its not too difficult to find a spot though (TIP: go to the bar at the top of the lawn for slightly cheaper beer and a really good view of the stage). Also, bring your own food. While you cant bring any outside beverages or liquids (except one unopened water bottle) - liquids include ice in coolers - you can bring food. So pack a picnic and if you have something you want to keep cold, freeze the unopened water bottle (not completely, otherwise it will burst) and use that in your cooler. Also, a lot of folks pregame in the parking lot, so drink your beer there and then go inside if you want to keep things on a tight budget. Lastly, if you dont have a way to get to Merriweather or you just dont want to drive, there are a couple of different party bus options that will pick you up in DC and drive you up and back for relatively cheap. P.S. They have a fantastic lost & found system. There is a tent to the left of the lawn (if youre facing the stage) where you can report your lost item and they will text you if anyone brings it in. I lost a really nice bracelet last year and it was quickly returned to me before the opening act even began!

Poor quality seats, too many drunk people, and WOW did they oversell the lawn. We bought 4 seats in Row R. Our actual chairs were metal FOLDING CHAIRS with no space on either side. It was incredibly difficult to let people pass down our row to get to our seats, we couldnt sit in the seats because we were too crammed together, and although we stood for most of the show, there was barely any room between our seats and the row in front of us to stand. The drunk people behind us kept bumping into our seats and into us, and talking incessantly throughout the show. Maybe its a bad idea to serve hard liquor at shows and maybe people should be somehow limited to how much they can drink. We finally left our seats to get some fresh air out in the open areas. The crowd was wall to wall and made it almost impossible to walk around. We ended up leaving early out of frustration. The show was definitely oversold - we had walked through the lawn area earlier in the evening and counted ourselves lucky for having pavilion seats. We were shocked at how crowded it was. I will NEVER buy lawn seats to Merriweather Pavilion after witnessing the crowd last night. And traffic / parking could be much better managed. We found it difficult and confusing to find a parking spot. $80 a piece plus misc. charges brought our total to $352.00 - Thats a lot of money to pay for a poor entertainment experience. The only plus is that the Cure always puts on a good quality show - great set!

This place is a scam. We will not return on principle. Concert time was scheduled for 5:30 pm on Wednesday evening. We went to the show mid-week because of the early time. In reality, the GATES to the venue did not open until after 5:30. Once inside, we learned that the opening band would come on after 7pm and the main act not until 9pm. Therefore, we were left to wait for 4 hours where we could purchase outrageously high priced drinks and disgusting food, which brings me to my second point: The food was bad, compared to other local venues. There was a good selection of drinks but the prices were outrageous. $13 dollars for a can or cup of beer is simply not right. There is no need for such high profit margins other than outright greed and awareness that they can take advantage of concert-goers. We were tricked into arriving early and forced to pay unreasonable prices (compared to other venues) to eat and drink. Regarding the concert itself, visibility and sound from the lawn was poor. You are primarily watching the screen. Consider staying home and saving a few hundred dollars. There are so many great venues in the DC area (e.g., Birchmere, Wolf Trap, etc.) We will see our next concert elsewhere.

PARKING DISASTER! Disastrous parking fiasco destroyed a potentially wonderful evening out. The lines for parking started on the ramp off Rte 29. From that point, it took 1.25 hours (you read that right) to get from the off ramp to the first lot, which was full. I was directed to the other side of the venue, then flagged into the mall parking lot across the street, where I was directed to the TOP floor of a parking garage. The attendants arent counting the cars that go in, and sent far more of us than there were spaces. Since there were no free spaces, I had to return to ground level where they so unhelpfully said I could park anywhere and said I "probably" would not get towed. So far, 1.5 hours wasted. I complained to a policeman who asked what I expected, given the fact that Merriweather is down 1,000 parking spots due to the construction there. I missed all but 45 minutes of the show. BEWARE: They DO NOT detail the lack of parking spaces on their site and if you allow them to shove you into the parking garage, especially the top level where I was directed, that it will take a LONG time to get back out. Forewarned is forearmed!
