If the title of my review does not tell you enough about how I personally feel about this course, allow me to elaborate a bit more... 1) Course maintenance is almost non-existent. Tee box grass on every hole was anywhere from one to two inches in length, dead grass EVERYWHERE, greens in terrible shape and not manicured whatsoever, and fairways continuously pot marked with deep and ridiculous holes as if trees had been uprooted and nothing done to fill in the voids left behind. The signs on some of the holes were missing altogether, yardage markers were missing on some holes...it generally just looked as if the management did not care about how the course looked, which was very apparent. 2) To make matters worse...it took us over 3 HOURS to play 9 HOLES!!!!! Every hole we were waiting for the people in front of us to tee off!!!! Not their fault, because they were waiting for the group in front of them to finish the hole, but you can see the patter I am getting at...Poor staggering of the groups going out, and NO Marshall present to keep the pace moving was 100% at fault here. We left after playing 9 holes because we did not want to play a 7 hour round and because the course is god awful. Save the money and either dont play golf or find somewhere else. This place sucks.
Terrible course. The condition of this course has deteriorated significantly over the years. Dead piles of sod are left all over the course. Several tee boxes have literally no grass with patches of mud and crab crass. Many greens have new sod laid around it and its completely dead. The staff is constantly driving the course turning sprinklers on/off throughout your round. We played through active sprinklers on at least 5-6 holes. The cart girl doesnt even drive a beverage cart. She had coolers with bungy cords and didnt accept credit cards. Only saw the cart once through the round. If you want to play a dog track and be disappointed, this is your course for a nice $60, you can get all the dead sod and sprinklers you can handle. DONT PLAY HERE.
Course wasnt bad, greens, tee boxes, fairways and bunkers were all in decent shape for the most part. Reasonable greens fees. Pro shop was sad, very little merchandise, was not greeted or told who I was playing with, if anyone, where to go or asked if Id been there before. No starter either, I basically just loaded an open cart and teed off, never saw anyone from the staff. Restaurant was also pretty dire, most of the lights were off and limited options. Also no beverage cart out there although there was a water in all of the jugs where they had them. Very slow play, no Marshal and they definitely need one. Decent value, decent course but missing some of the other details.
Played Penderbrook Golf Course 30 September 2012. Great short, but challenging, course layout. Fairways and greens were in great shape.Exceptionally slow play made for a very long round on a Sunday morning. Compared to the Reston National course which I played the previous day, I enjoyed this course more and the rates were about $40.00 different. Both course had the LOUDEST golf carts I had ever heard. and in need of mufflers or something! Would avoid weekend play here, because it was very crowded. I recommend this scenic course, if you are in the area.

great value for nova . . . i play here all the time and the course has very reasonable greens fees. play used to be slow but they have added rangers and a starting clock. the course is tight and has some challenging holes. in response to the other reviews . . . every hole has yardage markers on the cart paths and white stakes on each hole. fairways & greens are always in good shape, the course drains well after rain. fairway bunkers need some work though. just like any course, if you go on a holiday weekend or at peak hours play can be slow.
I dont understand how come people can give 5-star rating to Penderbook recently. I took my daughter and her boyfriend to play there yesterday (September 3, 2016) and Penderbrook became one of the worst golf courses I have ever played. I used to play there in a weekly basis from 2008 to 2011 because my golf buddy loves the challenging layout and it is in a convenient location for both of us. The condition was okay back then. I was shocked yesterday when I saw crabgrass everywhere. It is sad.
Penderbrrok is a beautiful 18 hole course. It provides well priced greens fees, challegeing holes and great staff. I have been playing this course 2-4 times a month for that past year and can say that it is the best course for the money around. In the past year the course has been well cared for and it appears that the course is going to continue to improve. The club house has just recently changed its menu and I have got to say the food is great! All around great experience.
Thanks to the new management team, to include Josh at the front desk, attending to each detail in a personal manner is outstanding. Professional demeanor and flexibility to all golfers is 5 stars. Ive been golfing at penderbrook for some 15 yrs and feel comfortable and welcomed.
Probably one of the worst courses in the county. Poorly maintained and the people it draws play very slowly. No Marshall so no control. Waste of time and money, they should close this one and either turn it into a park or build more homes.
Mediocre at best. Rough was poorly kept. No halfway house or cart doing rounds meant it was impossible to eat or drink anything for the length of the full 18 holes. Cheapish but still not worth it.
Excellent course for a good price . New management have significantly improved the course. The restaurant also has been upgraded with a 3 star chef .
Small fast greens and tight fairways . Good deals on rounds if you search for them. Knowledgeable and friendly staff.
Course needs better maintenance. There were huge cracks on the fairway. The layout of the holes is great though.

Just a good course for a relaxing game. Oh, and they give you two beers with your round.
Good 18 hole golf course for the price, especially with the Commonwealth Card.
