We have had many decent experiences with Village 8 over the years- aside from the fact that the place often has a bad odor and isnt the cleanest theater in town, the cost of the tickets has generally outweighed the negative factors. However, my father and grandfather- regular patrons of Village 8- recently had an atrocious experience here, and you deserve to know. In December, my dad purchased a $20 gift card for my grandfather to go to Village 8. He only used it once, to go see something with my dad, which cost $6. This left $14 on the gift card- easy math! Yesterday, they went to see another movie. The clerk at the window kept the gift card. My grandfather told her he needed it back, because there was more money on it. She said there wasnt, and refused to give him the card. The receipt she handed him, however, confirmed his story and showed a balance of $8. He went back to the window and tried again. By this time she had three gift cards lined up in front of her. He told her he just wanted his allegedly empty card back so he could try another day. She scanned each card to determine which one was his (but if they were all empty, it wouldnt matter, right?) and sure enough, after two red lights showing no balance, the third card- my grandfathers- flashed green. The clerk left the window with no explanation and got a member of management. He wordlessly punched a few buttons, and gave my grandfather his card back, with a receipt showing $8 left. No apologies or explanations were given. The best we can figure is that the clerk at the window intended to pocket the gift card and use it for herself, presumably because the older gentleman who owned it wouldnt know any better. This goes beyond bad customer service. From now on we will be driving across the river to go to the discount theater in Indiana. If you must go to Village 8, be sure you keep an eye on the shifty clerks- know exactly how much is on your gift card, and pay careful attention to what bills you hand them. I doubt it would be beneath them to say you handed them a ten when really it was a twenty.

Its alright for a discount theater. Compliment number one -> The tickets are CHEAP! Four dollars most of the time but its two dollars on Tuesdays and three dollars on Thursdays. Compliment number two -> The popcorn is delicious! It really is! Compliment number three -> Its surprisingly well kept and clean (although definitely outdated). Complaint number one -> the theater doesnt have stadium seating so, basically, if somebody taller then you sits in front of you - your not going to be able to see the movie. Complaint number two -> the noisy patrons the theater sees. Many a time I have gone to this theater and had to deal with disruptive and noisy, obnoxious fellow film goers. My advice to any sincere film fan is to forgo seeing blockbusters or animated fair at the Village8 (this is when the crowd is at its rudest) and instead see an hard adult film or indie film - but only at the late night screening! (Im talking about the 9:30-10pm showtimes) . Thats the only time when you wont have to deal with the jerks. Im not even joking. Complaint number three -> Occasionally, for some odd reason, the films wont take up the entire screen. Its not every movie but sometimes youll see a movie and the movie wont fill up the entire screen and itll just be a big square on the screen with two big bars to the left and right. Its too bad this theater is being closed down though, I enjoy coming just to see indie films I dont get to see at regular theaters at a price I can afford to spend more often.

Village 8 is a Louisville, KY icon, serving patrons with discount second-run movies for over half a century. (Well, I assume so since its been there all my life!) They currently have Two - Dollar Tuesdays and Three - Dollar Thursdays for convenience and chances to see your favorites over and over! This theater does not have IMAX or 3-D. But the 3-D movies shown there in 2-D format still have great cinematic appeal, and this shows in the performance. Tickets are bought outside but sometimes inside (I suspect depending on foot traffic). The inside lobby is not large, but it serves its clientele well. For popcorn, the largest container (bucket) price includes a free refill. There are a few tables to sit at and several padded benches, and the showtimes of the next movies are easily visible on a high - placed marquee. Enjoy perusing the theater posters of now - playing and upcoming movies. The theaters are clean, and the ushers clean up after every movie. Turn your cell phones off or to vibrate. Dont wear your light - up shoes. The lights and sounds from these items can really distract from the movie.

I believe I know which clerk you speak of. There is a really old really sweet lady that works there that often messes up orders and such because shes just losing it. The management i guess noticed this because she has recently been demoted to ticket taker where there are no orders to mess up. Every time I go there I have experienced great service and affordable prices. If you pay 9 50 for an xl popcorn and large drink you can eat and drink all you want. They even normally offer to give you bags to spread the popcorn around. This is a locally owned business that shows foreign and art films and does its best. The village is the only place I go to see movies now. Try to go to stony brook you wont even get in the door without 10 bucks a person. On Tuesdays you can get in the village for 2 a piece. You just cant beat it.

Village 8 has an AWESOME staff, a clean environment, and the BEST popcorn ever! I will never forget how I needed a bag of popcorn for our mock Thanksgiving meal at my school. I had to go out of town to take my aging parents to my cousins funeral in Atlanta and was unable to pop corn. Not wanting to leave this job to the substitute, I called Village 8. They not only supplied me with the popcorn, they gave the popcorn for free!!!! They wrote me the sweetest note of sympathy (I lost four loved ones this year and had to move my parents into an assisted living facility). I was very overwhelmed and thankful. They didnt have to go over and beyond for me, but they did. I thank God for people and businesses like them. They show us that good still does exist in this terrible sometimes heartless world of ours.

We love this theater. The prices enable me to take numerous grandchildren to see their favorite new movies without my having to take out a loan (up to 6 grandkids at a time) and my best friend and I enjoy enjoying a movie here all the time. Id say I go 2-3 times minimum per month and have never been disappointed. People are pretty respectful during the movie without the usual chatting and texting that seems to go on at the big theaters. Price of popcorn and soda are almost half what they are in the big theaters also and like everyone says, they do have the BEST popcorn in town. :)
