Delightful. Its how I feel every time I go there. Ive been going to Stone Mountain since I was a toddler, when it was only trails, a single playground, the museums, and the laser show on the carving. Back then, it was still a delight to go to a state park centered around such a massive natural wonder, seeing all the history people have donated and worked to make and preserve over the years. The feeling at the top of the mountain is incomparable to anything. Ive climbed the Appalachians and Rockies and never found such a feeling as atop Stone Mountain. The fact that its one solitary peak amidst vast swaths of relatively flat forest, with Atlanta and Buckhead on the horizon, makes this something thats hard to replicate, and is made all the sweeter by the fact that its free for anyone to climb the mountain. Now that the Crossroads amusement area is there, Im glad to see more people coming to visit the park. Hopefully after theyve played in the Great Barn, challenged their fears on the ropes course, watched glass blowers, had lunch at one of the restaurants and gotten dessert and a toy at one of the stores, theyll get side-tracked and find themselves wandering around the more natural parts of the park. I often see people biking and hiking around and up the mountain, and it makes me feel good to see people get away from the urban jungle and the internet and just enjoy nature. The pricing is great, too! Most of the experience is absolutely free! Of course, you have to pay for parking, but thats not outrageous, and can be avoided by parking elsewhere and walking/biking to the park. After that, the restaurants, mountain hike, laser show, and many other attractions are free access, without purchasing a ticket or other such thing. For most of the attractions in Crossroads, you need a wristband or season pass, which are also quite affordable and a one-time purchase for indefinite uses until expiry. They also gladly let you take your own food in, so you dont even have to pay for restaurants or overpriced vending machines (as literally all amusement parks have). TL;DR I believe this is the absolute best state park in the country, bar none. Yellowstone and such are nice, but have a certain "only so much to do" factor about them, whereas I could spend a solid week at Stone Mountain and have a new and fun experience every day!

Stone Mountain is one of Georgias most beautiful state parks. Although technically not a mountain (It is a giant piece of granite), there activities scattered across the mountain for all ages. Entry to Stone Mountain is not free. It is $15 per car, but if you plan to visit more than 3 times in a year, buy the annual parking pass for $40. Keep in mind, the pass is assigned to the car, not to a person so you have to bring the same car next time. I go to Stone Mountain for the "Walk Up Trail." It is only one mile long, and fairly easy to climb up. Once atop, the scenery is absolutely gorgeous. There are various spots on the way to the top of the mountain that give the best views. The first is top the left of the canopied rest area almost 2/3 of the way up the mountain. The second is the steep area with the railings to climb up. Once on top, literally every view is a great one. I prefer to find a nice place to sit and admire the nature. The hike down is much easier. Many are disheartened by the walk up and opt to take the skyride back down. Trust me, the walk down is quite a breeze. Couple of warnings if you want to go on the Walk Up Trail. This trail is quite popular, especially on weekends. Finding parking can be a pain due to this and you will find yourself constantly having to move out of the way for someone going down. I find it quieter and more peaceful to go during the weekdays or early morning on weekends. Keep in mind, the amenities on top open at 10, so try to use the restroom before going in the mornings. The trail can become very slippery when wet so try not to go after it has rained, even if it is sunny (Yes, that is how Georgia weather works). I love watching the sunset here; it is the most beautiful thing I have ever seen. Just note, it will become dark on the way down so be sure to make a flashlight of some sort because there are no lights and climbing in the dark can be troublesome. Stone Mountain also has many other activities such as the train, ride the ducks, laser show etc.. Check the map the to see what is available as some activities are seasonal like Snow Mountain. Some of these activities come with the entrance such as the trails and the laser show while others are available with other tickets available at the main entrance to the park.

Deployed service member strung along with poor values and bad business practices. Avoid Stone Mountain Toyota please. Stone Mountain Toyota obviously values the quick dollar over customer care and I hope that at lease one person reads this review and shops elsewhere because of the lack of values and poor business practices of this company. While in my last 30 days of my deployment to Afghanistan I began searching for a used car to be ready when I arrived home. I found a beautiful used Nissan at Stone Mountain Toyota and emailed the dealership about pricing and to begin purchase of the vehicle. I initially dealt with Lance Ross in the internet sales department. I was so appalled with the lack of email etiquette and sales professionalism that I emailed the general manager and general sales manager to address the issue. I settled a price with the General Sales Manager and he handed me off to another internet salesperson to finalize the transaction. When I asked about holding the vehicle, I was told they could "hold an used vehicle only if we have the total price of the vehicle in-house in the form of wire transfer or certified funds made payable to our dealership." Because of this, I made every attempt to speed up the process while dealing with the time difference. I did everything Stone Mountain Toyota asked for and I sent in the loan electronic check from my bank and authorization for transaction on my bank card. I even got a special power of attorney so my wife could sign for the vehicle purchase. As I was waiting for the email with the sales paperwork for my wife to sign, I instead received an email saying that they had instead sold the vehicle to someone else. I am absolutely amazed that a company would sell a car right out from under a different seller, especially a deployed veteran working extra hard to do everything they asked. Stone Mountain Toyota obviously values the quick dollar over customer care and I hope that at lease one person reads this review and shops elsewhere because of the lack of values and poor business practices of this company.

Stone mountain although not the tallest mountain out there is still a very impressive park. They have lots of activities for every age group and a very diversified set of official park rides. If you like a slow pace that is a little noisy ride "the duck" their amphibious vehicle around their massive Lake. For less noise try golf at one of their two championship courses or just lounge by the lake or the pool at one of their many hotels and resorts. There campsites are always well maintained and their RV park looks like a fun place. Summer times are always great there in the evenings as there is a laser light and fireworks show that is always fun to watch. They have some anchor animations and they are constantly adding new ones. I still like the graphics they put on for "The Devil came down to Georgia" and I cant remember how many times Ive seen that one. The light show is projected onto the huge 90 by 190 relief carving, that goes 42 feet into the side of the mountain, of confederate President Jefferson Davis and Generals Robert E. Lee and Thomas J "Stonewall" Jackson. Which is even incorporated into the show in a very cool augmented reality kind of way. Until I read the flier there I always thought his given name was Stonewall. Oh well his parents werent as cool as I thought but enough about my ignorance. With the pervasive nature of the new augmented reality game ending in "...Go" they even boast some 35 Pokéstops, 8 Gyms and 30 different critters to catch in game so another outdoor activity that gets people out and moving. Winter times they build a man made snow Hill and set up a tube run and snowball park for the kids. Georgia doesnt get much snow but this is one way for the kids to enjoy a snow day without their parents getting stranded on the highway for hours. All in all Stone Mountain is a great place for a day, a night, a weekend getaway or a week. Ill be back there sometime real soon. Hope to see you there.
