This review concerns Saturday, March 18, 2017 only. Heres why they only get 1 star: I usually do valet, which is $25. I am not rich, its just that my partner is handicapped and cannot walk far. However, valet was closed because of a "special event". The security at the entrance to the driveway let me drop off my partner however. So I want to thank them. They could have been a prick but the guy was understanding and polite. Again, kudos to security. I tried parking at the parking deck across the street but it was full. So was the parking lot next to the deck and another parking lot a block east on Broward Blvd. Tried a third lot and there was a line 20 deep of people waiting to pay at the parking machine. I would never make the play if I had to wait in that line. I finally parked in the parking deck east of the railroad tracks and got to the theatre as the bells were chiming to sit. Now what does this have to do with the Broward Center? Im pissed at them for not informing us patrons of a special event and timing our arrival if I have to park elsewhere because valet is closed. And luckily as I already stated, security let me drive up to the theater to let my partner off. What if they declined? Its a "mountain" to climb if you are handicapped. And since Im ranting Ill add that the sound quality at the Amaturo and AuRene theaters are iffy and have gone downhill. Broward Center is getting too comfortable. Fix your sound systems! And you and the city need to get together concerning those parking machines. Why not a flat fee like the deck I used east of the railroad tracks?

There are many things to appreciate about the Broward Center. Ive been here many times before. The staff are always courteous and theres something to appreciate about an establishment that hires their employees for the long term and treats them well. The seating is always clean and it is a wonderful environment for theatre shows. The reason I dont give the Broward Center a full five star rating is because of something a little out of their control. I really dislike seeing blues-rock and most other musical concerts here. Broward Center brings some of the best talent in history, and I see at many concerts an audience full of people who want to dance and truly enjoy the experience of listening to their all-time favorite musicians, however the environment isnt conducive to this. The large cushioned chairs and narrow walk ways mean that only a brave few can get up and fully enjoy moving and grooving - if they can make it to the aisles. For concerts I find its a stifling layout. Its not uncommon for performing arts centers to have such a layout - it optimizes the number of seats and balances the number of tickets they can sell. Its great for theatre performances, but stifling for musical enjoyment.

I have been attending shows on a regular basis. I find that most everything in every show is outstanding. The performers, the staging, the dancing, all fantastic. I always walk out after the intermission because Im too bored with most of the shows. It seems that something is lacking. It seems that the performers are having more fun than the audience. It seems that they are not really conecting with the audience and this is a fatal error. I believe this is due to a poor script. A story that really never captures the audience. A plot that is lacking intrigue. Songs that all sound the same...no blockbusters, no real hits. Jersey Boys, had hits. Man of LaMancha had " The impossible Dream ". West Side story had hits...though this too dragged in terms of the theme.

This is the most poorly run organization ever. Just try to call them and get them to answer the phone. I was trying to buy tickets. You cannot get through. I tried three times. First time -- "the person you are trying to reach is on the phone". I hung up after 8 minutes on hold. I tried calling twice later. Both times I got the same message but did not wait on hold. I am an Entourage member. The last time I tried to call them -- again, several attempts -- was to make a charitable contribution. I finally gave up. Several weeks later, they called me and asked why I had not renewed my annual membership. But I renewed nonetheless. I am having serious moral reservations about giving this organization money, given that it is run so badly.

This was a beautiful theater. My husband and I watched a live version of Beauty and the Beast while on our honeymoon in Ft. Lauderdale. My only complaint about the theater is that during the show there was some confusion about the seating. Several ladies came in and found that others were sitting in their seats. It seemed there was some kind of mix up and the staff worked hard to get it figured out. But they were figuring it all out right in front of us and we could not see over them for about 10 minutes of the show. I understand that mix ups happen, but I felt that they should have taken care of it off to the side rather than blocking the view. Other than that, it was a great theater and I doubt that kind of thing happens too often.

Weve been going to the Broward Center for Performing Arts for as long as I can remember. Weve seen big shows and small shows - and theyre always good. The ushers are always sweet and helpful. Its always very clean. I dropped one star because with the new renovation they changed the seating. The seats are now very small, and unbelievably uncomfortable. If youre sitting there for 3 hours you dont want your butt and back to hurt at the end. But its still totally worth it for a good show/opera/ballet. The ballets are fine. Personally I prefer the full stories like Copellia and Swan Lake. I find that when they do the snippets they modern dances they choose are less interesting. Some people love them, they are not to my taste.

The Broward Center is a great performing arts center. They feature all the typical tours plus numerous local productions. If you are seeing a performance in the Au-Rene theater. Check out the Intermezzo Lounge, its an additional $30 but theres an open beer/wine bar and a small buffet with nibbles before the show and intermission. For$50 you can saunter up to the Club Level fora full open bar. Cant drink that much? The bar downstairs offers "doubles" of wine for $20 which equates to half a bottle. You can see where my priorities lie. Oh yeah, grab a turkey sandwich and a cupcake while youre at it....theyre awesome!

This was our first experience with the Summer Camp program. My 10 year old daughter had her performance yesterday and we were amazed with the show. It is amazing how much the teachers can accomplish with the kids in only three weeks. The show (Cats) was beautiful and well performed. This was my daughter first time in this type of show, and she was so confident of what she was doing. Congratulations to all the kids and specially to all the teachers and staff of Broward Performing Center. We will definitely look for some other classes for my daughter.
