WHY? Its been closed since 2008!!! by Hillsborough County for some reason, and if you trespass through the unlocked gates its a FELONY !!! The Planning commission want to ruin your life if you happen upon PUBLIC PROPERTY--MY PROPERTY thank you!... This is another example of Government Overreach. Why not just shoot on sight. Being new to the area there is no Goggle evidence that it is closed No approaching closure signs leading into the dead end preserve. I suspect if the county had it posted on their website as a TAG Google would pick it up as CLOSED! while we sat there, at least 4 cars tried to drive up to it and go in, then turned around. How man 10,000 people have wasted their to drive there in 7 years since it was closed??? SHAME ON YOU PEOPLE who derive their paychecks from the taxpayer. Is it a TOXIC WASTE DUMP???

There was ample free parking at the Nature Preserve today. As I headed north toward the beach I noted several picnic gazebos which looked well kept. I didnt tour the Preserve but used it to access Apollo Beach, just steps away. The beach is narrow with white sand and I walked just hundreds of feet before it tightly edged the shallow water at mid-tide then the sand continued around the bend. The Manatee Viewing Center is just north of there. Only a dozen others were there; two were walking their dogs; a few fishing off the coast; nobody was swimming today. I collected some shells on a pleasant, quiet walk with boats accessing the Bay nearby and a beautiful view of the Tampa and St. Petersburg skylines.

Not a good beach, not a good nature preserve. The beach was crowded when I went, despite being rocky. Quite a bit of litter around as well. The noise from the beach, litter, nearby coal plant, and lack of habitat diversity combined seem to almost completely drive away nearly all wildlife. I saw a total of four birds... Ive never seen a beach before without at least a dozen gulls, terns, crows, grackles, and/or pigeons... but in a little over an hour I saw one tern, two warblers, and one pelican (which was just flying past, never stopping at or even near the beach or preserve area). Parking was free at least (though there was only room to park because somebody was leaving just as I arrived).

The water is a little warm in most spots, not sure if its like that all the time or just the time I went. It was my first time there. It doesnt have any waves either which was a little disappointing. But if you have little kids and want then to have a bit of dependace, its shallow enough for them to swim and walk around alone. Its a small beach with a volley ball court off to the side away from the swimming area. Its a great beach to have a nice play date, or romantic date (theirs parts of the beach that you may find yourself the only one there), or to just go and soak in some sun with not a lot of people around. I would visit again.

We like it, and its a great place to photograph sunsets on the Bay. Our kids love catching the blue crabs and the fishing is good, IF, you know the tides and where to fish. Only go during the week, on the weekends it turns into a low rent mad house. People are drunk and we have witnessed some fights because of the scummy people that hang out there on weekends. Also it is the power plants warm water discharge so winter time in the cooler months the water is nice in the summer its unbearably hot and miserable with the heat from the sun and the hot water discharge from the plant.

I like it because it is peaceful and not a hectic place like the main gulf beaches. The water quality is not as clear and had debris when we went. Easy access, many families with kids and dogs. I like how there is a bit of terrain and landscape, including rock jetty. Public bathrooms right next to parking lot, a nice covered picnic area with tables, a big volleyball sand court and benches. Lost a star because its not crystal clear water but it is the bay not the gulf. Very clean, no trash.

Closed, but looks like a nice place. This is from the county website. *Hillsborough County Conservation & Environmental Lands Management will close the Apollo Beach Nature Preserve on April 11, 2016, to protect public safety during the second phase of the Apollo Beach shoreline restoration project. The closure of the preserve is necessary to allow heavy equipment to be safely used. The preserve is expected to reopen by Mid July.

Go there and watch the coal plant unload one ship. Cant really see the people or the coal but you will see why people still want coal as its jobs. Ship I saw a there multiple days. Its a nice well kept park. I wouldnt call it a family destination but more an extension to your walk or a place to watch the water.

I love this place but for the past couple of years they keep closing during peak season to do apparent "reconstruction" on the beach... Its a nice little beach for fishing or wading and they allow pets as well but as Ive said they always seem to close during the peak months for some construction project

EXCELLENT recommendation for dog beach park. One of the reviewers disliked the dogs present unfortunately, but its clearly referred to as and recommended to be an ideal place in this area to bring the pup(s), just dont forget leash, drinking water, and POOP bags (to use, not just bring) :)

Was peaceful. It became more crowded towards sunset and has the potential to become very crowded. My kids had fun playing in the sand. It was windy which was nice for keeping us cooler. A downside was the water was mucky and green which made seeing anything in the water hard.

Despite the beautiful landscape, the park still need some work in order to provide a good outdoors experience to its visitors. The restroom facilities are not enough to serve a larger number of visitors (more than 100) and the landscaping and gardens are unfinished.

We were excited to see reviews from a month ago hoping it was finally open! No luck. It still has signs saying closed for renovations and the gates were closed. When the heck is this thing supoise to open again?!?! Its been closed at least a year.

At the end of the road, in a beautiful, quiet neighbourhood, this park serves as a great nature preserve. Wonderful and popular for sunset, scenic walks on the bay. They have washroom facilities, a neat parking lot and a picnic area with shelter.

Es una hermosa playa muy cerca de Tampa donde se puede llegar a pescar y observar manatíes y delfines.

Went during winter - will go back again. The park was recently renovated; the vegetation is growing back. Looks like it will be nice. Good place to view Tampa from the south side and also visit the Manatee Viewing center nearby.
