Went to see a rock act there and part of the staff was pretty unpleasant and rude. The show sold out but there was plenty of space left. The sound system was fantastic, especially for the electronic genre opener! The bartenders were very polite and friendly. Like I said before, the bouncers were my main issue. None of them told us where to go or what to do to get our will call tickets and kind of just left us to our own devices and I was talked down to multiple times by the guy checking tickets. I may be overreacting but I think that customer service like that is unacceptable, especially if I paid $20+ for a ticket. I dont consider the position of a bouncer to be a free pass to be rude to someone who clearly wasnt causing any trouble instead of being helpful. I would not recommend this venue for seeing rock or other instrument-based acts as you cannot see their instruments at all unless you are standing in the very front row. All I could see were a few heads of band members from all of the spots in the venue. The stage for DJs was perfect and you can definitely tell that it is a club meant for electronic music. I would definitely come back for EDM or DJ acts!

Good value venue in DC...sweet location right in the heart of U Street. Always pull solid artists and up and comers and the tickets are never too expensive. Do not sell tickets to capacity though and leave way to much open space in the venue. Bought expensive resells on a sold out show and they could have fit a bunch more people in there but live and learn I guess. Bar is pretty long too but only had two bartenders working at a time for a sold out show. Also huge pet peeve of mine...but I like to collect my ticket stubs and they do not hand out real tickets there just raffle tickets super bummed about that. 930, Black Cat, Rock N Roll, and State are all of better quality but if the artist you want to see is at U Street or you are under 18 then go with the flow.

This place is a gem. Fantastic sound system, great (and occasionally more obscure) acts coming through all the time, close to the U Street Metro stop... ideal music venue. One of the top destinations to watch live music, and their association with the 9:30 club has made it even better. Usually a more sophisticated crowd in terms of music knowledge than at other venues in the area - people are there for to listen and to dance. If youre buying a ticket at the door, youll need cash. ATM conveniently located down the stairs. Pro tip: some shows allow for free entry before 11pm if youre over 21. If you are near the venue, stop by, get a wristband and a stamp, and then head back to bars until youre ready to check out the performance.

They use to have a great sound system but have stopped using it. There was a mixing board planted in the back of the floor during he Vic Mensa show instead of up in the step up area where it usually is. The female security guard with the blond locs was rude, she ruffed up my sister unnecessarily and yelled to manage crowd control during our exit. Exiting is horrible and needs t be better coordinated. The put the artist stand in the same area that you exit so this creates a jam at the door leading upstairs. It as so disgusting you could feel and see the steam of sweat packed on he walls and in the air as we all were packed like sardines leaving the sbowh

You might walk right by U Street Music Hall without ever knowing it was there. The ropes and bouncer look oddly misplaced and after flashing your ID you pass through the doors into a matte black closet with a steep set of narrow stairs that lead down into the hall. Pass the box office, turn a corner and the room opens up with high ceilings, a bar that runs the length of one wall, and a DJ booth and stage at opposite ends of the long room. I saw Mount Eerie there last night and the sound was great, the drinks were diverse and well priced, and the bartenders got the job done. Its definitely a venue I will revisit.

Smaller "concert hall" style venue with a stage for live acts at one end, a dj both at the other end, and a big dance floor in between with a bar running along one side of the room. Single room setup with a small chill out area for sitting in the front. Sound system is OK but not great and visuals are not on the level of other DC venues (flash, echostage, soundcheck). Vibe and crowd depends on the act or party but this venue hosts a variety of styles from house music to trap to rock and so on. Crowd is usually a mix of people who know the djs and people who are just looking for a fun night out.

I love this place. It is one of my favorite places to see a show. Its like an underground cavern for music. You walk in and go right down a steep set of stairs. There you have the ticket window and the merch booths for the bands. As you keep walking you walk into the room which is pretty narrow but very deep, good for large and small shows alike. The bar spans the entire length of the room so there is never waiting 3 deep to get a beer. On the opposite side of the stage is the DJ booth who spins in between bands. Its cool and dark and a great place for a show.

Straight up amazing venue for dance music of all kinds (the quality ones at least). Theyve been killing it since they opened several years ago. Fantastic sound, great dancefloor, great security/staff, relatively affordable drinks for DC. I cant speak for current Fri/Sat nights as I havent been to those in several years but their Wed/Thurs shows usually bring in great crowds and showcase a good mix of classic and cutting-edge artists. Also, from a DJ perspective, a really exceptional place to perform.

Its a nice venue, but Im here for a concert that was supposed to strt at 7 and they didnt open the doors until 7. Its now 8:20 and the act still isnt on (I know shes here because I saw her walk in at 5:45). Theyre not even playing music you can dance to. They could have easily opened the door at 6 and let people in out of the cold to hang out and buy a few drinks, hell! they would have probably made more money that way. This is rude to both the customers and the artist.

Best club in DC hands down. Sparsely decorated, no-nonsense atmosphere that puts the focus squarely on the music. The sound is among the best on the East Coast, and certainly the best in the Mid-Atlantic. The person who works coat check is incredible and everyone should tip him a ton. Door guys are friendly. Bookings are solid, especially Red Fridays which can be cheap or free before 11 and still present stellar, world-class DJs. Definitely check it out!

Excellent sound system and actually decorated quite cleanly in black. They are located one block and across the street from the U Street Metro. The view from the street its a rather small entrance in the middle of the block and then immediately you go down stairs and then it opens up just past the bar. None of these venues have nice bathrooms and this was no exception. I went to hear Robert DeLong and I look forward to returning.
