My husband and friend planned a surprise birthday celebration for me here. They reserved a table for 16 guests including admission. Three of my guests were refused entry due to what was explained as instructions from the police to shut down the door. However, I observed and counted 20 people enter the club after I was told this. I asked to speak to a manager or owner and was given the run-around to do this. A gentleman who claimed to be a manager became very billigerent and threatening towards me as I tried to explain my dissatisfaction with the way the situation was being handled. I finally was able to speak to the owner, and he was very unwilling to even hear me out. He simply made excuses as to why they could not come in as I watched them allow several other people to come through the doors. They collected our money for an agreed upon amount of guests who were on a list to be a part of our party, however when the guests arrived they refused to let them in. My guests waited outside for an hour until the issue was finally resolved. I missed an hour of my celebration due to this and was highly upset and greatly disrepsected by the owner and other staff. The only staff persons that were helpful was Michael, a security guard and Alex who was our waitress. Also AJ and Nate who do marketing for the club helped resolve our concerns as well. The owner of this establishment is despicable and I would not recommend that anyone invest time or money in visiting Josephines. They take money under the table and make biased exceptions for people that they choose, while causing a disservice to guests who paid money as well. This experience completely ruined my birthday celebration.

We went to Josephines specifically because they have dance poles (I go to a pole fitness studio). First of all, the cover on a Wednesday night was $20, which is kind of crazy imho. The drinks were expensive and watered down, and they have the balls to charge you $5 for a BOTTLE of Fiji water. They wont give you water in a glass, they make you purchase water. JEEZ this is a dance club, where you are drinking alcohol, it only makes sense you pace yourself and rehydrate with water - not doing so is spelling disaster! hangovers/dehydration are bad news. I take issue with any bar or club that wont give you water for free when you purchase alcohol. PERIOD. That alone is a deal-breaker for me. As for the poles... they were badly set up. There are two in a recessed dance area. One has zero room to walk in front of and both were set too close to the wall. These poles were clearly not made for actual tricks/spins. You can really only do the fireman (with variations) and the front hook/back hook and thats about it. Oh yeah, and gyrate a lot (bodywave!). PLUS SIDE: the music was AWESOME. We had a blast dancing despite our issues, but have reservations on ever returning. Also, the female bartender was a huge jerk to several (female) members of our party. I personally refused to drink (after finding out about the watered down drinks and the purchasing of bottled water) so I did not experience this bad service myself, but my friends were appalled, so I felt it was worth mentioning.

Came here after finally making a decision on where to host my sisters birthday party. We went back and forth between shadow room and another place and finally chose Josephines. My party goers wanted somewhere mature with good hip hop music. This was hard seeing that almost every club in DC on sat is international night. Josephines was perfect, spoke to the VIP coordinator earlier that week and she had promised us 2 bottles of kettle one and one bottle of house champagne fro 550!!! Great deal in my opinion for 10 people, we got there and our guest didnt want vodka so I asked her at the door if we could switch to something dark she easily accommodated us and gave us the same min for our table which was just above the dance floor looking over it. We arrived around 1130 and the club wasnt packed but it was perfect for us to toast our champagne for the birthday girl and about 30/40 min it started filling up so we had our server bring out our bottles. After that things got blurry, we order a hookak for the night which was 50 unlimited. The night was great and everyone couldnt stop talking about how they danced all night, GREAT DJ he went from ratchet to 90s r&b mixed. We were on our feet all night, I will be revisiting Josephines

Great atmosphere. This place played mostly hip hop or R&B. Wish there was some reggae thrown into the mix. It was a good time nevertheless. The DJ did do an awesome job and kept everyone dancing. Lots of security roaming throughout the club which was a good thing. It have you a safe feeling. This establishment is supposed to have a dress code but the few times I attended I saw people dressed down looking homeless. All in all the experience was alright and I most definitely would go back.

Credit card was over charged, people were smoking weed, music got worst as the night went on, table waitress was horrible so it was hard to order bottles, and even though we had a table they wouldnt let people in because of the way they were dressed but there was clearly other people in there with jeans, t-shirts, and fitteds on.
