This park is small, however it has a road where you can drive up to the top and enjoy nature, a beautiful view, and its child friendly. There are many hiking trails off the main road. This is a great place to go jogging, biking, roller blade, or a quiet walk. This park also has some nice grassy open spaces that are great for picnics. The top of the mountain has areas where you can make barbecues. There is an area to go ledge climbing, but it can be dangerous. I have noticed lots of wild life here including deer, a large habitat of hawks, and turkeys. This park is the closest to the Yale school, and in a very convenient location.

Ive lived in New Haven for quite a while and it wasnt til recently that I started to HIKE the park. Ive been to the top quite a few times in the car, but its not quite the same if you hike to the top. Maybe its lack of oxygen but the view seems to be a lot better! Ive hiked all around the base and I always am surprised by something new. The last time I went, I was privileged to get some obscure shots of a Great Blue Heron (see pictures). Its a great park just a short ride (or walk!) right from downtown, Get out there!

East Rock Park is a great getaway without having to go very far! It covers quite a large area on a ridge overlooking New Haven and Long Island Sound and includes miles of hiking trails, picnic grounds and overlooks of the city and the water from a birds eye view. Encompassed within the boundary of the park but on the other side of the Mill River from most of the rest of the park, is the Eli Whitney Museum and a quaint and unusual old covered bridge. A lovely place to spend a few hours!

A beautiful park with considerably well maintained trails. My main hike was from Wilbur Cross up the Giants Stairs to the summit. A 20 minute hike, moderate difficult, with the last 1/8 of a mile being very, very steep. Be prepared if youre going to go up the Giants Stairs. The view at the top is breathtaking and well worth the hike.

Hiked to the top of East Rock for the first time. It wasnt a bad hike, I dont consider myself to be very active and I made it without any problems. Pack water, I expected there to be a place to refill bottles at the top and I didnt see any. But the views were really great and it was a good time, a really nice place to picnic.

This is fantastic park that has an amazing view of New Haven and the surrounding area. It can be a little crowded during the warmer months, but the views are hard to beat. East Rock Park is also home to the Soldiers and Sailors Monument, which can be seen from Interstate 95, as well as many locations around The New Haven area.

Perfect place to sit on the edge of the rock and overlook the downtown New Haven. If you are feeling adventurous, take off the main path explore the walking trail; outstanding scenery. The only downside is that trashes and bottles are everywhere. It can only be kept clean by people cleaning up after themselves.

Its a national park. I think it would need more landscaping, more entertainment for kids (we couldnt find a playground for our little 4 ys old!) Signals are not good. Just a nice placed to take a picture on the top with the city back to you but nothing else. Trails for walking your dog are ok

One of my favorite outdoor places in the world. It has sentimental value for me because of my stay in New Haven for 2 years, but all around a great place for a walk, hike, run, and picnic. Even at Night when you can see all of New Haven lit up, it is worth the walk oup there.

Wonderful place to visit... you can hike from the entrance down below, but I drove to the top and hiked down... then back up. Really enjoyed my visit here at East Rock Park. The Soldier & Sailor Monument at the top.... along with the Vista view of New Haven was awesome.

East Rock Park is a great place to hike, run, picnic, play ball, its a great park. Its a great place to bring a camera because it over looks Long Island Sound. I love all the Wildlife. I have had lime disease twice already so Im not hiking much this year.

The perfect park to have a picnic with family and friends. There are big trees as the best canopy, grass to lay the picnic blanket and the kids to play. A lot of light especially when afternoon sun shone between the leaves, its so lovely!

This is a nice park right in New Haven. The trails are not that tiring and you can reach the top in as little as 40 minutes and enjoy the great view overlooking the city and stretching all the way to Long Island.

East Rock park is beautiful and has lots of great trails and paths from the Giant Steps - a narrow and cardio-inducing set of stone stairs to the top - to gentle paved roads great for jogging or walking a pet.

Great place for a hike ,bike ride,picnic,or just to take in the view of New Haven. Bird watchers delight as it a major migration route for warblers along the mill river.

Theres 2 big parks in New Haven, and this is the better one. The Giant Steps are a pretty good workout, and the trails that run along the river are very relaxing

Fantastic view of New Haven. You can walk up to the top of the mountain using the walking paths or drive your car up as the main road to the summit is well paved.
