I grew up down the street and my great grandfathers picture hangs in one of the buildings. My Great Grandfather & sons had the first charcoal business in this area. My Great Grandmother used to pasture her cows on the Mill River Country Club Golf Course and at one time was in the family, the golfers golfed around the cows-(most of the time-woops!). I had the pleasure of watching the flowers bloom every year at the park and my Great Grandfather is buried in the cemetary there, his wife didnt want to be buried there after sleeping next to the-"old fool"-getting kicked every night whe was buried on the other end of town. I grew up sledding down the hills, riding the kiddie rides the spring held rockets and animals you rocked on, watching the birds in the Aviary-(amazing). I remember when they moved the old Putney Chapel across the street from the round about thingy that was there when I was little. Sledding on the golf course hills was always fun & usually a few tears shed before done. This park is one youll never get to see anything else like it anywhere. Its special to me and my family and to most everyone that does go to see it. Tulips umparelleled as well as all the little out buildings. I was fortunate enough to get to take my own son there as a child and I hope youll take yours when and if your ever in the area. Pack a picknic lungch and bring a blanket walk down and get your spot where the kids can ride the slide and swing and twirl and have the time of your life. I hope my spelling isnt too bad my new glasses arent working so hot! But dont miss this!

Nice park to visit in the Fall. Highlights of the park include, a colonial home built in the 1800s. It is (and has been for a while) open to the public for guided group tours. An appointment is needed. Also, they have the Merritt Parkway toll booth from when they had tolls on CT highways, which was 15+ years ago. Park also features a cemetery, old wind mill, a flower garden and nice views of the Housatonic river. If you go down the hill, a playground, baseball field and small picnic shelter can be found. Almost forgot to mention, wedding ceremonies can also be arranged at this park, (not sure how but it is really a lovely and quite place so I can see why people would want to.) and I have seen several on weekends when driving by. I would highly recommend visiting this park if your passing through town. Free parking, no fees. Roosevelt Forest is just 5 minutes away from this park. If you are looking for trails to hike, that is a great option. Interesting site, as well if your able to fall.

I like the upper portion of the park. Has historic look and has the last Toll Booth in CT intact on the premises. Not a great place for a walk as it is very hilly. The kids swings are gone which is too bad, and the little pond is too over grown to see anymore. The pavilions are in good shape if you are looking for that

I often come here for lunch and I love sitting underneath the old toll booths while I nom on my sandwich. Plenty of places to walk, relax, and to enjoy The Eclectic nature of the park. There is a playground here from a little ones and they do have picnic shelters available for reservation.

Train museum is great. Wish they took better care of the playground down the hill better. Its washed away so much theres big drops off the slides. And I wish they opened the buildings more often. Theyre cool to look into though for s casual walk.

Great place to bring the family for some historical facts and information about both Stratford and Connecticut in general. I would not say you would want to spend the whole day here, but definitely a fun and interesting place to go for a few hours.
