Ive been visiting Red Rocks for live concerts for about eight years now and not once have I ever had the experience I had the other night. A security guard by the name of Eric Siegel who was both intimidating and passive aggressive, ruined the night for not just me, but many other individuals. I watched as Siegel grabbed random people by their arms, got in their face, screamed at them, cussed at them, and forcefully threw them out of the venue when certain individuals were not up to par with his expectations. Prior to myself being kicked out, Siegel had grabbed a young lady by her arm after she had drank from her friends drink, screaming at her to not let him see her do it again. After she went back into the crowd he continued to make eye contact with her, telling her he was watching her and one sight of error, he would kick her out. To me, thats just someone looking to make trouble in a crowd. Siegel was out to get people, looking for any reason to kick any one out. To me, that is not a security guard that I want watching the crowd, to me that is a guard who is aggressively looking to start fights and problems, using his authority as an excuse to get by with what he was doing. After being given a warning for smoking a joint, I was more than happy to oblige by his rules and keep the peace. But after about ten minutes, it was obvious that Siegel was out to manipulate the fans, looking for any reason to kick people out. In past times, staff and security have been so kind and nice when it came to kicking people out and warning people about the problems they had, that when I noticed Siegel kicking out people the way he was I was in shock. After flipping off the camera when it was pointed at me, another security guard by the name I do not know, told Siegel I was flipping him off. Siegel who had his back to me originally, marched up to me, got in my face and began cussing at me, telling me to get the f*** out of his venue and that I was a liar and disrespectful. He then told me my excuses were bull sh** and that I was not allowed back, and then grabbed me by my arm with a strong force, dragging me out to the cops. When I asked to speak with a manager Siegel replied that he was the manager and that if I had a f***ing problem, I could talk to him about it. I told him to show me the proof of me directly flipping him off and requested to see cameras or videos of this indication, both of which he said he would show me, but failed to do so. I love Red Rocks and I grew up in Denver with a positive light on this Amphitheater, but after being touched inappropriately and being pulled out of the crowd with such vulgar force, I can truly say Red Rocks is no longer a home for me. I hope that the venue in Morrison will think twice about their security guards and be more open minded to individuals who are willing to follow the rules.

Go for a concert experience - and order (vegetarian) pizza while there, it was great! Red Rocks is a beautiful and unusual concert venue with an informal atmosphere, and youll see all sorts of people at an event. (My husband and I were there to see Kishi Bashi and DeVotchka with the Colorado Symphony, which probably draws a varied crowd.) Make sure you check the website to find out what items are allowed; its not difficult to obey the rules. You *can* bring your own food if you like (and we did bring sandwiches just to make sure we would have something to eat) but there are some basic options available both before and during the show. I saw that pizza was available so I decided to try one even though I had a sandwich in my bag - Im a sucker for good pizza and thought Id give it a go here. It came pre-boxed from a heating unit, so I wasnt optimistic - but then I opened the box and took a bite, and was amazed! The crust was soft, light, and flavorful (not chewy or tough), the sauce was spiced nicely, and the cheeses were great. A very light dusting of Italian seasoning covered the top. Next time we wont bother to bring any food along. We also each got a fruit smoothie too (yes, they contain real bananas, but I wasnt paying attention to the rest of the fruit blend they used). For the alcoholic version you can choose between vodka or rum. They were a bit pricy but very welcome on a slightly warm evening. If you are wondering about the hot dog stand, no, they dont have veggie dogs (but I did suggest that they add them to the menu!). We considered dining at the Ship Rock Grille before the show, but the menu is not very vegetarian-friendly (only two entrees offered, one a veggie-burger) and we would rather not settle for a second-rate offering at an apparently nice restaurant. The venue is an a beautifully scenic area and I recommend arriving early and wandering around the park before the show.

One of Colorados best concert venues, its true what they say about the surrounding rocks being perfect for the acoustic sound. The people are very helpful, they have clear & well defined rules about what is allowed inside and theyre very fair about what you can bring in. For example you can bring a water bottle inside as long as the cap is factory sealed, or you can bring an empty water bottle and fill it up inside. Its easy to navigate (if you arent sure about navigation they have maps online). They have handicapped parking and a shuttle that gives you a ride up the hill for those of us that are disabled and have difficulty walking; Just make sure to bring/show them your handicapped parking placard or license and theyll direct you to the proper lot. They also offer a limited amount of handicapped reserved seating when you buy your ticket, but they dont have handicapped only bathrooms anymore. The bathrooms they do have are a little bit of a journey and theres usually long lines. If youre a smoker of any kind they have confusing designated areas. They have a pretty decent concession stand that serves snacks like pretzels or personal pizzas etc. And if you dont want to wait in line for a beer they have vendors who walk up and down the isles promptly to sell cans of tallboys.

Obviously this is a cool venue for music however this review is focused on the tourist trap non-concert aspect of Red Rocks. First let me say the trails gets crowded with tourists, hikers and runners. Second the views at RR are just OK. Of course the views that are to be had are a bit special due to the red Rock formations but driving a few more minutes into the front range will net some pretty nice views both east and west. Third, if you are inclined to check out the cool concert venue since its open to the public you will be over run by a spandex army of exercise culture people people. The place is covered with stair runners, yoga groups, cross-fitters, MMA/Kickboxing groups, walking groups and more. Many of which are lead by obnoxious coaches yelling at their struggling students. Add in the 12 different radios and youll be motivated to get out of there pretty fast. Finally, if you really want to see red Rock then drive down to the Garden of the Gods during a week day.
