First of all I want to start by saying I love the Ogden. Their staff is wonderful, their security and bartenders are friendly and great. The music is always amazing and they make sure the atmosphere is right. I really dont ever, ever ever write reviews. But this experience stuck with me. My only major complaint is that the new security system lacks complete empathy for human rights and safety outside of their venue. The security staff made my friend throw away her pepper spray, after providing the option to walk it to our car (which we dont have) or to ditch it in the alley "which is safe and it wont get taken". Thanks, but as a female on Colfax, at night, Id really like to keep the protection I have for myself. Im not about to walz into a concert and start pepper spraying everyone. Im trying to make sure I can defend myself in awful situations. If I had known, I wouldnt have brought it, and Im usually prepared for that.... but since I wasnt prepared I had to leave my only means of protection in the alley..... I was NOT going to just throw it away. But then, after the concert Im just trying to find a safe ride home... I forget about my pepper spray hidden in the alley. Thanks. Now I just gave up my main means of protection to the alleys of Colfax and Im sure its gone. Im extremely uncomfortable with the fact that they will not at least hold these items until the concert is over. I understand not having that in the venue, but AT LEAST offer a safer option for storage of these items. Its not fair to tell anyone to ditch their valuable protective items in the ALLEY. not okay. Id expect a little more respect and empathy. This is something I feel incredibly strongly about, and for the safety of myself and other people entering this venue I hope you consider fixing this issue.

My friend and I got to The Ogden at 5 am to be first 50 in line for Hoodie Allen. We waited all day and when it finally was time to go inside, my friends ticket was having problems scanning. I got past and waited in line to buy merch and get the "first 50" bracelet to meet him after the concert and when my friend finally got through, they wouldnt let her in line with me even after people around us were telling the security guards that weve been waiting for him since 5 so we were forced to go to the back of the line. After buying the merch we tried yet again to explain to another security guard what happened but nobody cared. When we got to the pit it was already crowded with people and the only way for us to get a good spot was to be squished between people. It was extremely hot, other peoples hair was in our face, and to make it all worse there were people forcefully pushing everyone to try and get closer spots which just made everything 10x worse. After the concert, we tried to explain what happened again to a security guard in charge of the first 50 in line people and still nobody was willing to listen to us or the people who also new we were supposed to be apart of the first 50. The concert was amazing regardless of what happened and it was still a great experience but we were disappointed that we didnt get to meet Hoodie after all the trouble we went to. I just wish they wouldve had a more organized system. I think having the first 50 come in before everyone else wouldve been more fair because a lot of us were waiting there all day.

I just saw Floetry at the Ogden Theatre tonight. While the intimacy is great, I nearly passed out from heat exhaustion! It was WAY too hot in the Ogden & the theater was not as full as Ive seen it at previous shows Ive been to. There was no way the air conditioning was on tonight. I went to the bar, Im sure I looked completely exhausted & troubled, as I was fanning myself with my flimsy ticket, asked for water, & it was $2 for a bottle of water! I asked for just a cup explaining how I was really hot & felt dizzy. The bartender said she would not give me water without charging me $2. So I gave her my money & struggled to cool off at the bar. I stood there laying my head on the bar & the nerve that none of the bartenders asked if I was ok. Finally a guy who worked there but wasnt bartending asked if I was ok. He allowed me to step outside to cool off, which I appreciate. Ive never been dehydrated or struggled with heat until tonight. Very displeased that I couldnt enjoy a great show because there was no air conditioning on in the Ogden Theatre tonight. Ill have to reconsider visiting this venue in the summer time. Ive never been so uncomfortable.

I went to see The Hold Steady last night. Killer show. I highly recommend seeing them sometime. Great energy, great musicianship, great songs. As for the Ogden, I didnt find the staff to be rude at all as many of the posts have said. Maybe my experience was outside the norm but I was able to get drinks quickly, the bartenders were nice enough, and the drinks were strong and reasonably priced for being at a music venue. We got there about 30 minutes before the show and we sat on the balcony where we had stools to sit on and a place to put our drinks. The inside of the place is a little rough but I really love older, small theaters like this for music. You can see very well (at least from the balcony) and the acoustics and sound are good. My only complaint is that they had the sound level absolutely cranked. I understand its a rock concert and its supposed to be loud but this was at a painful level and it seemed to me to kill a lot of musical details that you would normally hear. IMO, part of music is dynamic range and even the few quiet songs were really loud. Otherwise, it was a good experience.

Okay, the Staff may not be the most friendly, the place may look a little rough in spots and you are most likely not going to be able to sit. However, Ive now seen 4 shows in this theater and each has been amazingly tight. Not a surprise if you know something about acoustics. The ceiling has been sprayed with exposed sound insulation and the room includes many areas with thick sound eating curtains. That combined with the right amount of side reflective surfaces and you have a crisp sound with almost no added reverberation. Best of all, the combination of these materials and a somewhat conically shaped room (like the inside of a speaker) creates a bone crushing base that will have you wondering if stuff is going to start falling off the ceiling. To me, its all about the music. Of course, it doesnt hurt that the place is small enough that you are going to have a good view of the band (and good sound) no matter where you stand, but you are also close to the large bars in the back for quick and easy access to your favorite libation.

Went to a Walk Off The Earth event on Feb 20. I came early to get good "seats" but discovered that doesnt matter as it is mostly SRO, so you just decide how hard you want to work at it to get where you want. Enthusiastic and fun. My biggest complaint was the bass volume. When the first group started I was in front and the floor and walls were vibrating. I walked all around it the intense bass was everywhere. I like bass sound, but it drowned out the rest so badly, I could barely understand what song I was listening to. Yes, Im older, but I get the idea of loud rock concerts. I would have like better balance. Another BIG issue is parking. There are signs everywhere about towing from Lone Star. I avoided all the places except for one labeled "EVENT" parking. There was no price and no sign of anyone to pay. In my enthusiasm, I went back in line. My car was towed within 15 min though I didnt know until after the event. The cost to get my car was nearly $300. BEWARE OF PARKING. Dont feed the tow company.
