Full Disclosure: I am an employee of Bemis School of Art, and I was inspired to write this after seeing Davids review below. I was surprised by his perspective on the FAC because during the same period of time that he posted his review, the Sandzén show was up. Birger Sandzén produced a body of work in the early 20th century inspired by Colorado, in a post-impressionist style. They were some of the best paintings I had ever seen in person. I went to that gallery space on at least 7 separate occasions because I was *that* impressed with Sandzéns work, and I wanted as much a chance as possible to be able to study and learn from it. Never once during any of my prior or subsequent visits did I ever see any work at the FAC in either the traveling exhibits or in the permanent collection that lacked technique, control, or narrative depth. The regional and Western collections of art and pottery have greatly inspired me to learn more about my own artistic heritage. The Fine Art Center certainly lives up to its name, and is a great resource for Colorado Springs. We are lucky to have it here.

Dont get me wrong, I love the fine arts center, and Ive loved all the efforts and opportunities they make available for learning programs and students, but I was disheartened by the contempt from one of their older tour guides. At the time, the Fine Arts center had a Hispanic exhibition displaying Mexican farmers working in a field. The guide felt the need to express her unwanted political feelings, and jokingly explained how, " these Mexicans look illegal to me, and I would bet when the cops come, theyll start running because they dont have their green cards." It made everyone on the tour uncomfortable when we had come to appreciate art from different walks of life. It was uncalled for, and disrespectful to the artists intentions. I dont think someone who lacks the ability to think critically, or make sound judgement over whats appropriate to say out loud, should have the ability to speak about different artists or works of art.

Since this is Colorado Springs, a city that is not known for its appreciation of culture, I had low expectations for the Fine Arts Center; and still I was disappointed. Sadly, most of the paintings would earn no more than a ‘B’ from a high school or college art class. It seems that no one had shown these ‘artists’ the techniques for creating visual depth or addressing light and shadows and other basics. Granted, there were a few good works that showed imagination, but for the most part it was depressing to think that this was the best art that Colorado Springs could produce. Surely we can do better than this. Maybe it would help to sponsor a contest advertised at the art classes of the high schools and colleges of Colorado Springs to find the gifted artists of this city. The reward of the contest would be to have the best work of the top student artists displayed at the Fine Arts Center.

Its worse than pulling teeth trying to get the staff here to honor a certificate. I have tried numerous times in the course of the past six months to try and get into a class with a certificate I won, and I am constantly getting e-mails that the person responsible for such a thing will be in touch with me. But I never hear from her, only other people using her email who assure me she will respond as soon as she gets back from vacation or what have you. Apparently the person responsible is never at her desk, or just doesnt think Im worthy of getting her attention. Thanks for nothing.

Overall a great place for art appreciation, with nice staff, and a gift shop with awesome items. I got to enjoy a very special private collection, but there is always something cool being shared. The kids were not as impressed, however. They only needed about 15 minutes in the tactile gallery and the scavenger hunt was only for the first floor. Most rooms upstairs have cozy chairs and art books for taking a rest, or for bored kids ;) I enjoyed it, but need to go back sans-kids.

Ive visited several times and this time let me down. They have many fine pieces in their collection but most are hidden Maybe the staff is jaded and wanting to sparsely populate it with new mediocre items to keep it fresh for regular attendees. Even then a hall with bowl after bowl of Chihuly differing only in color and identical to those in half of America’s museums gets boring by halls end. I’ll check the web site more carefully before going again.

I never see a negative when it comes to art and I feel each institute has its own creative design. I feel that art is anything and it does depend on the persons creativity. This building is professional but the art really extracted itself from the walls to the heart. I like this one.

My wife and I attended the best performance of Man of LA Mancha that we have ever seen! My wife is disabled, and in a manual wheelchair, the ushers and other staff at the theater were extremely thoughtful and very helpful to me and my wife.

This museum is nice a good size with a nice variety of art. Clean, spacious and made for a nice outing. The art collections were a good variety and covered several centuries in time. I would go back when they get some new collections.

I saw Sweeney Todd here and it was great and the theater is wonderful! I love the seats, the layout, everything. The art gallery is equally wonderful. The CSFAC is probably what I miss the most about Colorado Springs.

Nice place to visit! Close to Colorado College. Always interesting to wander through this place. They change out the art fairly often so there is always something new to see.

Really nice to have something like this in town. Multi exhibit displays with a multitude of dire rent styles and media. They do have a bar here too ;)

Love the entry way and the layout of the gallery. The cafe is fun on a summers afternoon to sit and eat a light lunch. Very relaxing.
