When you see a lot of glowing reviews of a property it usually makes me wonder how accurate they are. But my wife surprised me with a stay at the Tallman Hotel for my birthday and I want to tell you this is going to reinforce those glowing reviews. Living just a few miles from the property I’ve been there a few times to the Blue Wing Saloon and toured the hotel but never stayed until now. I’m glad I did! The room that we stayed in is room #9 which has a Japanese soaking tub in a garden outside. The room is really spacious and very comfortable. You have a porch on the front to relax and enjoy any music at the hotel or adjacent Blue Wing Saloon and then a nice little patio in the back that has that soaking tub. The room, the property and everything about it are absolutely immaculate. It’s clear that their housekeeping procedures are very effective and the staff really, really cares about the guests. Not a speck of dust, towels all clean and neatly folded, bed beautifully made. I also own a resort and the attention to detail here is absolutely impressive. Everything in the room works perfectly and the quality of the supplies and linens are first-rate. Frankly, if you’re in the hotel business you could come stay at this property to set an example for how to run a place - it’s that well done. The Butcher family that owns the place have absolutely found their calling. I believe all this property was renovated 10 years ago but it might as well have been yesterday given the first-rate condition of everything in the room. The decor in the room fits the vintage hotel without being cheesy or dated feeling at all. Whoever decorated this place should probably have it first on their resume, it’s very tastefully done with a recognition of the past without feeling dated. Nice job. Perhaps my favorite part of the room/experience was outside in the soaking tub. These are deep wooden tubs that are filled with 98° water. Unlike most spa tubs, you can get your entire self under the nice, still, warm water. If you’re feeling stressed or grouchy this will solve that. These are a nice touch and both my wife and I fit comfortably in the tub and neither of us are small people. Sitting in the tub listening to the birds and watching the trees sway was really a terrific experience. Good bye blood pressure medication, hello Japanese soaking tub! There is no ‘but’ at the end of this review. There is no “for the money” or anything like that. Bottom line I was really, really impressed with my stay at the Tallman Hotel on every level. The people are nice, the place is immaculate and it is a quality experience. So it’s great if you’re coming to the area to visit or even if you live a few miles away and want to feel like you’ve traveled to a wonderful and different place. Good job, Tallman owners and team members! You’re really setting the bar high and that’s a good thing.

We just returned from a delightful weekend at the Tallman Hotel and pool in Upper Clear Lake, two and a half hour north of SF. We know the owners and developers. The hotel is beautifully restored mid-nineteenth century hotel and bar. It had been for sale for forty years. Bernie and Lynne had successful business careers and have poured a fortune in a ten-year project. The hotel and restaurant are wonderful. The food good and the rooms designed by an expert old building interior designer. We had two meals with them and heard about the project and their life in Lake County, CA. The weather was hot with cool evenings and at night. The Continental Breakfast was superb. The hotel is a creamy yellow, with tall windows and a splendid Victorian living room and dining room. There are rooms also in new attached bungalows in warm greens and yellows. There are also rooms in a refurbished barn that are quiet and off the swimming pool that has lap lanes as well as shallow depths for children. There is a hot tub. Having stayed in hotels in New York and Chicago, the Tallman Hotel prices were cheap by comparison. We enjoyed it so much we are sure to return again and soon.

The hotel was doing ok, the room was nice enough. The biggest problem and I hope the operator will read this and make changes. When you charge in excess of $200/night the breakfast must be top notch. I understand continental and this was VERY SUBPAR. There literally was a couple of pieces of bread out on a plate, the yogurt (at 9:30) was sitting without an ice bowl and after likely sitting out for 2.5 was technically rancid. Everything looked bad. They run a great restaurant next store and yet allow this to happen.

Beautiful historical building and property, elegant furnishings. Our suite included an outdoor Japanese soaking tub and shower on the back patio. Wonderful complimentary breakfast in the am. Impeccable service. Front porch and cookies on arrival. The hotel shares an outdoor courtyard with the historic Blue Wing Restaurant. Adirondack chairs and a whimsical frog fountain are in the courtyard and Sunday we listened to a relaxing jazz guitarist. We cant wait to go back!

We enjoyed our stay at the Tallyman very much. It was homey with all the modern technological amenities like Wifi, flat screen TVs and a phone for local and international calls. Plenty of towels, including beach towels, were provided and Andre was always available for whatever we needed. Youll be hard pressed to find a nicer spot at the price he charges.

Priced pretty high. Too high. But service is EXCELLENT. Extremely clean, quality everything. Great breakfast... If there arent enough guests staying theyll even bring breakfast to your room. Awesome restaurant/bar on the premises. They have live music nightly. Great staff, very friendly. Great spot for couples

Front desk staff was amazing! I asked for some Super Glue and their maintenance man went to the hardware store and got me some!! Thoroughly impressed with their friendliness and customer service!!
