We will never go there again! When I went to the bar to get a couple of drinks for my wife and I, they insisted that my wife be present! I thought they were kidding at first! I couldn’t believe it. Although I wouldn’t submit to their infantile rule even if my wife were present, in this case she was at the other end of the property at a wedding with sore feet. A wedding, incidentally, in which I recommended McMenanims. Never again. So that the reader gets the picture… we are in our 60s and dressed for a wedding. What are they trying to accomplish? This is not an Oregon law... it is strictly a bad and oppressive McMenanims rule. You can walk up to any bar in the world and get a couple of drinks. Besides, what will they accomplish with this rule… we could leave the bar and hand our drinks to a 2-year-old. A senseless rule which is an unreasonable use of power and control which can only embarrass and enrage the patrons. If they want to run an establishment which serves alcohol, they need only to abide by the Oregon statures, which are already quite stringent. This is once again, an example of diminishment of responsibility and generally dumbing-down of America. I will not be an accomplice. We will take our business to a non-sophomoric establishment.

Awful service!! They were obviously busy, we figured we would have a wait but when I checked in and asked how long the wait would be for 2 people, I was told we would be seated immediately. We sat, ordered our drinks and then waited for a full hour with no food. We asked our waitress at 45 mins, if she could check on our food, she never came back. Waves her down at an hour and told her we either needed our food or we had to leave. She came back and said it wasnt ready!! We asked to see the manager, we watched at the manager and waitress stood and discussed what was going on and neither of them came back to talk to us. Went to the front desk area, explained the while thing and got repeated apologies and they asked to take my name. I gave them my name, and then waited as they continued to apologize. I stood there and said "What r you going to do with my name?" Dont you need my number to call me back?....nope, just said well tell the manager!. Awful!! Im never going back there again!

Mostly its the atmosphere of the old, historic building that I like. The few times weve visited here was because a good friend of ours really likes the place and its close to where we all have sporting exercise on Wednesdays. The grounds are fun and I love the creative murals that decorate all the blank spaces. Foods reasonably good if youre in the mood for bar food... after all, where are we... a bar... a drinking establishment that just happens to serve food. Okay, Ill play. We drink their coffee and their Root Beer and occasionally try apple cider when in season. Burger with salad is the best Ive had here. Gluten free buns are pretty decent and their burger meat is quite good. Veggies best quality and the servers are usually charming and lovely. I enjoyed their pizza once. Hubby thinks the place pricey and we move on down the road. Its a must do at least once.

I dont know why I always keep going back other than this is the place anyone who comes into town wants to meet. They are rude, you cant call in day of to make a reservation even if it is for a large group, the service isnt great and they dont know what friendly service is. The facility is nice but that is it. The food is the basic fried food product you can get anywhere. When you try to have conversation with the staff they dont want to have any type of conversation, just turn and burn the customers to make the mighty tip. If this is the kind of service McMenamins is looking to provide you are best to take your business elsewhere where you will get just as good of food and beer with alot friendly staff. I have visted many different McMenamins and they all have the same guest service. This tells me thats what type of people they hire.

My wife and I have been coming here for sometime. Recently we had dinner and were rewarded with total complacency by the staff when the service was very poor with 30 minute waits for dinner and had to go to the bar by ourselves to get drinks. Service personnel were invisible and unconcerned when they brought the wrong food with cold greasy fries. They offered to bring more fries but were never seen again (30 minutes without even seeing them). We complained to the server (they simply said sorry and charged full price) and sent a followup to McMenamins by email which was unanswered. A followup email was also ignored and it has been over a month with no respponse from McM. They are only interested in your money and could care less about anything else. If they look through their files they will know how to contact me.

Service wasnt great and food was so so. I ordered white bean turkey soup it was super salty but I dont eat a lot of sale so for someone who does it may have tasted great. I ordered a salad forget the name but it had black beans and corn with a Chipotle dressing. Asked for no onions and a thousand island dressing it came with onions what looked like to thousand island dressing nope it was Chipotle sadly I didnt taste it until I had covered my salad in it. I dont like Chipotle because it can be spicy welp it was so I picked the best I could at my salad but all in all not the best. Partly because they didnt follow my instructions and partly my own error. All in all the place was pretty and I would give it another go and just order the usual hamburger.

This is like a big pub for loggers. The enormous amounts of lumber used at this McMenamins location is impressive. This restaurant has two levels, and the top has a billiards table surrounded by chairs and tables. The atmosphere was great and true to its northwest roots. Everyone in the restaurant seemed like they were having a good time as they ate, danced and played pool. The restaurant hired a cover band the night I went, and the music was pretty good. Im happy my husband and I sat on the top level, however, or the music would have been too loud. The staff was friendly and I was impressed by how they were able to bring huge trays of food up the stairs. Just a warning--the parking is tight on busy nights.

Food here is sort of hit and miss but some items are pretty good but you do have to sort through a lot of mediocre food to find them. If your not sitting at the bar the service can be downright terrible, right up there with worst service Ive had in Portland. The management needs to both hire more servers (for when they are busy) and do a better job of training the ones they have (and get rid of the ones that are just plain rude/clueless). That said I do enjoy the place though, like other McMenamens it certainly has its own charm and as others have said the atmosphere really sells the place. Ill certainly be back as I have many other times before, but Id be here a lot more often if the service was good.
