Over my Christmas Holiday we made a reservation at Buena Vista Winery. It was my first winery experience that day and it was the best winery experience during my time in Sonoma Valley. The moment we set foot on the location was breathtaking. The landscaping is beautiful and elegant and the infrastructure was reminiscent of something out of a secret garden with ivy. Walking into the tasting room, I felt warm and comfortable. It is definitely a classy wine tasting room and the attention to detail almost makes you forget you are wine tasting, but rather in a different world of romance and dim lighting. Our wine expert, a gentleman who I apologize, I forgot his name, was from Europe and had an exquisite knowledge on different grapes and the different wines. I talked to him about a trip to Uruguay where I tasted the Tannat wine and grapes and he spoke to me about those with poise and grace. Needless to say, I did not taste a single wine from this winery that I did not enjoy or fall in love with. They were all exceptional, including the sparkling Rose which was beautiful in color and bubbly in taste. The flavors and light floral and berry hints were just what I needed to start my wine tasting day. Then we immersed ourselves in the Cabernet, the Pinot Noir, and the Merlot. My favorite was the more robust Cab. Since Ive been home, in LA, I have been spreading the word like wildfire about Buena Vista and look forward to more wine from the winery soon.

Buena Vista seems to have a slightly more touristy feel than it needs for the quality of its employees and the wine they make available. Although I didnt leave with any wine the day I visited, I definitely plan to return with my husband — so that he can experience the wine and the service. Walking through an historical exhibit was a bit unnecessary for my tastes, and I didnt like needing to walk so far for the tasting room anyway. The presence of nicknacks distracts from the fact that there is outstanding wine available. The period costumes of the employees was a little over the top with kitsch, but fit the ambiance. This is a winery that doesnt need gimmicks to stay open — the wine and people are completely worth it. The tasting was $15 for 5 pours, though we went off the menu a number of times. Our server was very honest about the quality of their wine relative to other wineries wines (both positive and negative). While the space felt like a museum, the music had an excellent dance beat to it.

Stay away, your group can get a better experience elsewhere. A group of us went to this winery, and spent $65, bought a bottle of wine for a picnic lunch. After lunch, we returned their glassware, and asked for a cork because we collect them. We were told "no, we save them for someone else." I quietly left the tasting room thinking that was the worst response they could have used. Guess what Buena Vista, you not only lost business to your sister wineries but also potential wine club members. All over a cork that should be mine anyways seeing I bought the bottle for lunch. Thanks for the worst memory of our trip into sonoma.

I went here on a recommendation of my Uncle. WORTH IT!! They are currently renovating the landscaping but the tasting room still open. It has a dark and mysterious feel to it. Go upstairs and read about the history of the Winery along with the founders various endeavors. The tasting prices are ok and the wine can be a bit pricey depending on your budget. The cream sherry tastes just like a port from Portugal. The Chardonnay was good. I left with their signature wine that has a very unique label. You will know what I mean when you go.

The place is beautiful and also the wine is pretty good but the service sucks! my experience wasnt very good! me and a friend of mine were splitting the 20 $ tasting (roughly 5 tasting each, half wine glass) . At the end we wanted to take another one to go through the whole list of wine and the old man serving us didnt want to. He said something like: you will became tipsy and we dont like!" By the way my friend had bought three expensive bottles of wine there!!!

Beautiful winery grounds with theme-park style exhibits describing the history of the winery, including a hedge maze thats fun for kids. The two-story tasting room has a classic feel of old-American grandeur, and the staff is very nice. This is the only place in Sonoma that sells an official Champagne (as opposed to a sparkling wine). The wines themselves have a New World feel that is typically of the wines of Sonoma and Napa.

Great wines and an amazing history. I did the barrel tour and tasting and Buena Vista was definitely interesting. The property has such an amazing history, Our tour guide was friendly and personable. The wines were pretty spectacular as well. I was extremely interested in the little personal touches that the new owner has put on the place. However, it is a high tourist area, which did take away from the overall experience.

Its Las Vegas all the way. Their champagne room reminds me of a porn site. Bet they could film some doozies in that room. Their infection control practices are very "iffy". The winery tour guide took us barrel tasting and touched the spigot with her fingers after each pour and then put it back into the barrel. Really scary. Its an experience all right, just not the wine cellar kind.

We get up to Buena Vista as often as possible - the wines are great, prices reasonable, staff fantastic, and the special events are always a blast. There are a couple of nice picnic spots on the grounds, a museum with historical wine equipment, and the oldest premium winery in CA, all making for a great afternoon visit.

Lovely historic location..great wines..and a wonderfully friendly and witty staff. Our party of 4 (all of who joined the wine club) thought this was a highlight out of the 10 wineries we toured during our recent trip to Sonoma. Cant wait to get our first shipment! Thank you Buena Vista!

One of the nicer top-tier wineries in Sonoma Co. Buena Vista had a nice quality selection of wines. Good tasting menu as well. Lovely landscaped gardens. Definitely go into the 2 main customer buildings for tastings (one dedicated for wine, another for bubbly).

A beautiful winery tucked away in Sonoma. This winery has beautiful grounds and wonderful wine. My husband and I were so glad we stopped here! The tasting was given to us for free to celebrate our Anniversary. :)

This is a historical location. Founded in 1857, this is the oldest winery in the US still in operation. Wonderful views. Fantastic wines. Personnel that know their wines. We were treated like kings!

Became a wine club member after tasting the Buena Vista Legendary Badge 2012. A great wine at a great price is not an easy find in Sonoma. We will be back many more times for events and great wine

Staff was super-friendly and helpful without hovering or pushing anything, like in some other wineries. Also the tastings were free - this was the only winery Ive visited that didnt charge a fee.
