I never give 5 stars for anything, and neither should anybody else. Doing so shows that the person usually has no standards. But Im giving it here to make a statement to the other so- called cinemas. As most of us have known, the other cinemas show such clichèd and redundant material, that are also cheesy and tongue in cheek, that theyre literally intolerable to watch. Movies were never meant to be that way. The idea and appeal is to go see material that one has never seen before. Whomever is choosing the movies here at 4 Star cinema seem to know what theyre doing. Their movies seem to be sincere and to care about the art of the movie. To say that 4 Star is the only true cinema in San Francisco is the best compliment that I can give for them. And people should not just give the 4 stars that their name lives up to, but 5 stars.

Cine antiguo que ha visto mejores días. Pero que cumple un propósito humilde y generoso que es dar la oportunidad de ver en el cine otras películas que no sean los éxitos del momento. No se puede entrar tu propia comida/bebida.

You cant beat the magic of this great locally owned theater, ,and Frank Lee and his people are friendly and professional. We screened our film, Hey Monster, Hands off my City in Aug-Sept 16 and will screen this May-June 17, and as an SF filmmaker, to have access to moviegoers in our city is a rare and special treat. Check out this cultural gem.

San Franciscos most unpleasant movie-going experience. Sound from bigger theater can be heard in small theater. No hearing devices available for hard of hearing patrons. Once when I was there the wrong film started playing so we waited until they got it right. A general air of non-professionalism prevails. .

Barebones theater experience that serves up foreign and indie films that arent available in most of the city. The seating isnt too comfortable and unfortunately people tend to show up for the movie late which is a pain because its really obvious when the main theater door opens up in the middle of the movie.

In an objective sense, this is not a great movie-going experience. You probably have a friend with a home theater system as good as the smaller theater. But the place has a lot of charm and shows a lot of interesting movies that arent shown elsewhere.

Family atmosphere run by a family. Very much enjoyed a private movie made by a good friend. Theater 1 holds about 150 people. I believe theater 1 holds 75 or fewer customers. Very good popcorn, reasonably priced.

Atmosphere. Come here on a foggy day (not too tall a task), preferably around sunset, and pick a movie without checking the reviews. Its definitely not a good theater, but that just might be why its so great ;)

This theatre is tiny and adorable. It almost feels like watching a movie in your living room, except slightly larger. I love coming here to see independent movies/movies I dont mind seeing in a smaller setting.

Definitely quirky, but in a great way. Plays foreign and second run movies, always has different options than anywhere else in the city. Dont expect a glossy, modern cinema! It has its own antique charm.

Not fancy by any means, what this theater lacks in amentities it makes up for in charm. Not usually busy, it is an easy place to see a movie and escape for a few hours. Pretty cheap too!

A cute little hole in the wall theater that shows films that you might not be able to see elsewhere. The facilities are pretty basic, but I actually think this is a feature, not a bug.

Pretty gud place. I went there to watch Sword art Online: Ordinal Scale. It wasnt too crowded but a good atmosphere is present when I went there to watch the movie.

Double bills are almost pre-cambrian. Balboa was last one to stop em. I enjoy this theatre and should go more often. Small screens no big thing, no pun intended.

Shows two movies at a time—one in a bigger theater, another in a tiny room. Go if the movie you want to see is in the bigger theater. Support local theaters!

So no, this is not the most comfortable theatre. But they play stuff you arent going to find anywhere else in the city. I love this place.

A great little neighborhood theatre. Hong Kong movies, summer block busters, independent films, quite the rotating variety.

Off the beat, small, lots of food options close by. In some ways, its a trip back to the 80s. I like this place...

Classic neighborhood movie house with character but two small screens arent optimal for viewing.

What it lacks in seating, comfort, amenities, screen size, audio, etc, it makes up for in charm.
