I got a laugh out of the four previous reviews. I mean, what do you expect? The range is built on the bottom of the old San Joaquin River. In fact the river still runs near and around the range but its level is controlled by the Millerton Dam. So yeah, during spring and summer there are bugs - especially at night when they turn the lights on. Which by the way is a nice feature for practicing at night while other courses are closed. Ive seen bees but since I use bug spray they dont bother me. The BEST thing about the range is the FACT their are no mats! Golfers dont play on mats so why would you want to practice on them? Learning to take divots is a must in golf, and at Islewood you can divot all the way to China - though I wouldnt recommend that deep! The chipping area is OK - Islewood has a couple of instruments that you can use to gather balls off the green. You can gather as many as you want and hit all day as long as you purchase one of three sizes of buckets of balls for the range ($4 for 40 balls, $7/80 balls, $12/200 balls). The putting green is as good as is necessary... but as every golfer knows the best place to practice is at the course youre playing. So while you can practice putts at Islewood, you shouldnt expect the breaks and speed to be parallel to your favorite course. And yes, you can practice sand shots as well as play a nine-hole pitch and put course (lighted of course). There are also five full size holes that can be played for $1 per or $10 for all day. The longest hole is almost 400 yards so driver is a must. You can also try your prowess over water, through and over trees and shrubs and fairway moguls. Sure there are rabbits. And Ive seen deer, hawks, foxes, coyotes, and a bobcat. Since its part of a Preserve, you should expect to see all manner of wildlife. Enjoy it!

Recently moved to the Fresno area and wanted to try out the local golf ranges and courses. I stopped by this place one afternoon for a little driving range session and perhaps some chipping practice. For a driving range, they leave a little to be desired; no artificial tee boxes so bring your tees, a lot of mud, and the worste has to be all of the pests! If you are not being attacked by bumble bees then you are subject to the flies and other insects in the area. This place is littered with bugs, probably because it is on such an outskirt of town? So, if you can move passed the problems with the driving range it is not bad for a place to just knock out some balls for a good price. Next, the chipping area was a complete joke! A flag pole in the grass with about 200 range balls all around it without any kind of structure! The putting area was clean, but did not offer much for variety, no sand practice, no hills or mounds of any type. In conclusion, if you can suffer through the bugs the driving range is the only highlight of this place. If you want more challenging scenarios to practice with I suggest you go to one of the local 18 hole courses, they are much more manicured. Thanks

This place is great! The best deal in town, especially if you are looking to play a lot. The ownership is very friendly. The putting greens and practice course are in decent shape. The course has some short par 4s. All around fun, and a great practice course. Also, I agree with the last guy. The only reason having a few mats for artificial tees MIGHT be nice is for driving. Hitting anything other than driver off of turf is a waste of time in my opinion.

Just went to the range. The guy managing the shack was quite helpful. Went out, shot some balls. Weather was nice, air felt good, was good driving. I did feel the hurt a bit with the lack of a driving mat. Sucks having to bend down and set your tee and your ball and all that jazz. In any case, it was a good time. I recommend it.

This is a great blue collar golf course where you and your buddies can have a couple of beers and drive some balls. No need for special clothing either.
