Overall, this is a playable course with some excellent design features (linksland dunes, native grasses, dramatic contours) and stellar greens. But for the ubiquitous tract housing, I would give this course a high review. Without the homes, this would be a picturesque, destination course. With the homes, its a moderately challenging course with a handful of really great holes. The design is really a tale of "two nines." Heading out (par 35 with 3 par-3s and a pair of par-5s), players wind their ways through gently rolling, but not terribly creative holes, dodging towering eucalyptus trees and fairway-bordering lakes. These holes reminded me of Cypress Ridge (just up the road) and Sterling Hills in Camarillo -- nothing special, but challenging enough to keep a player interested. The stars of the first nine are #5 (a short par-3 with a narrow, tiered, well-protected green), #6 (the long, uphill par-4 signature hole that plays to an amphitheater-like green complex), and #9 (a smart, play-for-position par-4 that calls for a well-placed tee shot and a precise, drawing mid-to-long iron second shot). The second nine is fantastic and plays (almost) like a Scottish links course. If I could, I think I would play this nine twice and call it a day. The 10th is a clever risk-reward hole with dramatic dunes and contouring, the 13th and 14th are shortish par-4s that demand precision from the tee (and a decision -- fairway wood or driver -- that, at that point in the round, could make a match very interesting) and force the player to negotiate mounded, linksland fairways bisected with fescued ravines. Although a bit on the short side, the finishing hole caps off an inspired inward half (and what 18 lacks in length, it makes up for with a tricky green). If youre in the area, give it a go. See if theyll let you play the back 9 twice.

The Monarch Dunes golf course is incredible. The first 18 hole course is very challenging and fun with many unique holes and obsicals. I can hardly wait for the new 12 hole Challenge course to open up at the end of 2008. But what I am really excited about, are all of the other amenities around the golf courses. Their are world class homes and a Club House that has Sandelwood Spa and Adalinas Bistro & Market. Two businesses that are bringing new life to This secluded part of the Central Coast. The Food and Service where excellent! We are considering buying a new home here so we can live like this every day.

Beautiful golf course!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So much fun to play. Went with a big group of friends and had a blast. I love the setting with the eucalyptus trees. Decided to get married at this beautiful location. So excited and looking forward to it!

Love the golf course, friendly staff and bonus 9 hole par3 golf course that is among the best u could ever dream of.. I personally would give it a 10 star rating if I could.. well worth the trip.. great price as well for green fee and cart..
