When I think of La Paloma I merely think of Paloma the drink, but apparently it means Pigeon. Being one of the older buildings in Encinitas, or at least feeling that way from lack of renovations, I would think Encinitas was once known for a pigeon population, like Capo being known for Swallows with the name. I generally come here for small, limited releases or local stuff. Belgian Waffle Ride, Reel Rock Film Tour. It’s old school, but the seats are surprisingly not totally uncomfortable and the concessions are offering, cash only for most events since they are small independently run. Bathrooms are meh, cleanliness is meh. Somewhat nostalgic feeling back to the 80’s when all theaters were like this. Lots of earth tone colors. The stage is the sort of standard high school theater sized and set up. There are windows in the back that when they dim the lights don’t backlight the experience keeping things nice and dark. The coolest part of the place is the stage left and right exits that drop you off street side on D Street, so you exit behind D Street Bar

My experience at this movie theatre was very negative for one reason, the volume level. The movie was far too loud, and Im not usually that sensitive to that. Im sure my ears have been damaged even though I had to plug my ears throughout the movie. It was literally like being in the front row of a heavy metal concert if the singer is screaming the entire show. It was terrible. Now, the movie I watched was an old school movie, so maybe there is a problem controlling the volume when using old school film (if they do in fact use actuall film). But seriously, you guys have to fix this in order to make an enjoyable movie experience. It is a cool place and I appreciate the historic side of it, but really tone the volume down a bit. Until they fix this, I urge you not to go here unless you want permanent hearing loss.

I love the La Paloma Theatre - and not only because it is my hometown, Encinitas movie theater! The building and theatre are historic landmarks and retain the charm that is gone from the movie-going experience at multi-plex movie venues. The screen is big, the popcorn is fresh (and real!) and it is located in downtown Encinitas, where it is easy to walk from the theatre to any number of restaurants, shops and the beach. The La Paloma is also one of the few movie theaters that screens independent and foreign films. The San Diego Italian Film Festival has found a second home at La Paloma, bringing films to North County audiences that have not screened elsewhere in San Diego. And, of course, surf film premiers and occasional live music shows.

Beautiful theatre from the 1920s with a rich history. If you enjoy a more intimate setting for entertainment, then this is the right place for you. Located just a block from the beach in Encinitas, the theatre has plenty of restaurants and shopping locations within walking distance. I personally enjoyed the music of George Winston with about 300 other aficionados in what I would consider a much more personal venue than more modern facilities.

I absolutely love the charm of this theatre. I would rather see a movie here than in one of the movie "chain" theatres. Those who attend this theatre for the first time must remember that it was built a very long time ago. Nothing fancy here....quaint, charm and old fashioned....with GREAT movies!!!! Fresh popcorn too!!!

quirky old cinema with maybe not the best seats, but the old decor and the good vibes definitely make up for that. This cinema is one of the only places that shows the quirkier/alternative/independent films in the area so its awesome that its here

Sticky, old, and rotten seats, the sound system is poor and the screen isnt the best, but besides all that... the atmosphere is great! The craftsmanship on the walls and ceilings are sheer artwork. I love seeing movies here!

La Paloma, the historic theater Encinitas, is the only venue in San Diego county that hosts a weekly showing of the Rocky Horror Picture Show with a live cast. Showing every Friday at midnight. Dont dream it, Be it!

this place feels historice, i like its style and feel. the quality of the picture is good and the sound is better than what youd expect from a place as old as this -- and i dont mean that in a bad way at all

Cool venue there but there is a plague of fleas willing to munch on you for the duration of the movie. I have been itching my legs for 2 weeks straight; they are the worst bug bites I have ever gotten.
