We were in Alameda visiting some other venues and came across the 1st Open House for Rock Wall Winery. Went up to the desk to register - had our medium-sized dog with us. Asked if we were able to take her in with us (too hot to leave her in the car) and were given the ok. Lots of very friendly folks at the check-in. Proceeded to pay our $60.00 and went in to a very large space with a band just firing up and friendly people at the "glass" table. We were immediately confronted by a stern man, (Dwayne??) who told us that the dog, who was on a 6 inch lead, was not allowed due to some endangered species of bird out on the bay. Huh? We were "NOT" allowed in!, he said. So we went back to get a refund. People were asking us where we were going???????? We told them that we were kicked out. The people at the registration were not happy with this. Then Dwayne(??) came running up to tell us that, yes, it was confirmed, we were not allowed in because of the birds. Told twice that we had to leave! Seems to me that the noise of the band would have been more damaging to the birds than a dog on a 6 inch leash. Make it clear, people, why you dont allow dogs. Most of us dog-friendly people understand health codes. BUT the thing about the birds is bull - especially when I have taken her out on the island in many, many spots that get me MUCH closer to the birds than in a closed space at Rock Wall. Sorry, you just lost 2 customers and all of our friends who love the dog - Olive, by the way. A beuatiful black standard Poodle. Evidently smarter than most of the chiefs at the winery. We will not visit you again.

First time going to a summer sip-nic and it was awesome. You really cant complain when youre being served free alcohol and food... I went with a bunch of friends and everyone had a fun time. The only downside really was the lines for some of the foods were really long....the alcohol helped with the wait time. People reading these reviews are probably reading to see how the event was so that they can attend the next one and Im pretty sure food/wine/beer changes every year so I wont go into specifics. Lets just say theres a LARGE variety of both. The entire event was well organized, clean, and had a friendly atmosphere. I would definitely recommend going if you have the opportunity.

On the old Naval Base in Alameda, it is very unassuming from the outside. Get over the lack of curb appeal and step inside to a newer wine tasting room with an amazing view. You look right out right to San Francisco and the bay bridge. I have been to many wineries and this place is probably my favorite as of now. The wine is the winner here. Every taste we had was great. They all could speak for themselves while being different enough from the last. I will be going back very soon because it truly is a great place with amazing wines!!!

I like that there are different areas to socialize depending on what you want to do. If you want to stay inside you can get a table inside the dome or the tasting room. And if youre lucky and its not too windy you can lounge outside and play ladder ball or hula hoop. When we came for my birthday they were really accommodating and made it easy to bring a large group of friends. I also love that they have one of my fave spots, Scolaris right there so you can get some food to go along with your glass of wine.

Beautiful views of SF Bay and Alameda Naval strip. That being said their wine is lackluster, I thought I was clever being able to identify all of the flavors listed in their wines but realized its because the wine isnt complex and often times tastes like it was flavored with adjuncts. The tasting is worth it if you want to hang out but personally I dont think the wine is worth the price in stores. Come for the experience, not the wine.

Lets hang at Rock Wall! Its a great place to kick it and sip on some good wine! They have a lot of community events and theyll give you a free glass as a souvenir! The place is amazing! It is huge and when I mean huge, I mean your jaws will drop once you step inside. Great decor with the wine barrels and the people are extremely nice! Take a FREE tour and you can taste wine straight from a barrel (its HELLA good!).

The view is cool, but the winery itself was a little confusing. There were like 10 people behind the counter with only two other people in the room that were already being helped and still no one came up to me to help. I ended up just ordering a glass of wine - I had the grenache. It was good. The food from the attached restaurant/food truck was great.

They have an amazing patio/outdoor space for hanging out on. Their staff was very nice and not too pushy. Late harvest Zinfandel was great and another Zin that happened to be out but not on the tasting menu happened to make it to our tasting and we walked with a case. A very positive experience. I will definitely be back.

We were at Rock Wall for a special tasting event. The staff couldnt have been nicer. The view of the bay and Bay Bridge was great. We enjoyed a tour of the historic hanger which houses the winery. You can order food from Scolaris on site and they will deliver it where you are sitting. We enjoyed the wine and environment.

Rock Wall Winery is fun. An East Bay Tasting Room in Alameda - the Sparkling Wines were really good. Grab bites from Scolari in front of the tasting room and head over to the dome or grab a seat along the water. Amazing views into the city for a relaxing afternoon.

I love going to Rockwall. The view is fabulous, and having Scolaris on site is always a plus. The wine list is always changing, but they will always give you a sample to make sure you like it. Bring a jacket, because the fog can role in quickly.

Awesome atmosphere good wine and good food! can even bring the kids along. They also have a very awesome geodesic sphere that brings indoors outdoors with awesome view of San Fransico, Marin and Treasure Island on a sunny clear day.

Awesome patio with a nice view of the bay bridge. It gets crowded and feels a little like they are just funneling you through. Patio is shared with Scolaris, so you can get food too. Great date spot.

Not as cool as Id expect for a place people flock to out in the middle of nowhere. Just a dome with terrible acoustics where the only option is wine. But, Im sure the wine is good or whatever.

Rockwall has nice wine and scolaris can be tasty. However, I wish there was more indoor seating that allowed people to appreciate the view. It can get very windy when you are seating outside.

What a lovely hidden gem right in my backyard. The wine tasting events are so much fun!! If you live in the East Bay you must keep your eye on the happenings at this place!
