Dobbins Lookout is a very special place, situated at the top of South Mountain in the Phoenix Metro area. Just a short ride off Central Avenue will take you to the top of South Mountain, you have multiple locations to visit other than just the lookout. They have a couple Plateau areas where you can park and hike as well as the TV towers, which is always a cool sight. This is something you definitely want to take your family to see when they come into town, taking them there more than once is an Overkill. There are also many many hiking options throughout the entire Mountain from the top to the bottom from the East to the West. Dont forget to pack the necessities, wear comfortable shoes and pack PLENTY of water. Seriously pack the water, you dont want to be the one rescued off the mountain because you didnt take that extra bottle of water.

We always take out of towners here! Its a quick drive up, and the view is stunning! You really get a full scope of how enormous the Valley of the Sun really is!! The bathrooms (though not always the cleanest) are a great addition to the area at the top, much needed! The short hiking trails around the bathrooms at the bottom are worth checking out. There is signage to explain the different wildlife and plants. I just wish other visitors would be more respectful of the people around them - lots of foul language and such - but thats just society today.

well worth the drive. the only thing that annoys me with this place is how disrespectful people are with littering cigarettes and shattered bottles etc. but you cant beat the view, not to mention how it feels a bit cooler being up that much higher. if you make it all the way up here. make sure you drive to the other side by towers. less people and of course better view of the southern area towards maricopa etc.

Amazing vantage point to view much of the Valley of the Sun. The road up is pretty winding but its all paved. The trail from the parking area to the the actual lookout spot is a bit of a grade and pretty rocky so wear your sneakers or boots. It may difficult for the elderly or disabled, but not impossible in most cases. And the views are worth the effort of the short jaunt down the trail from the road.

A fantastic phoenix experience for Free! See the city from high up while inspecting the flora and mountain up close. While the lookout area is not accessible to wheelchairs or those with mobility issues, you can still see plenty from the paved parking area. We came for the sunset and the city lights... Not disappointed! Take a picnic and enjoy the scenery!

Check the weather before you get there. It was awfully hot even at 7 in the evening. if youre hiking there its even more necessary. The hiking trails are easy ones and pretty much anyone can do it. There are a couple of washes that cut across the road which get flooded during storms. Dont dare crossing it, wait it out. And yeah it might get too crowded.

Sweeping overviews of the entire Phoenix valley and surrounding mountains. Lots of unspoiled natural terrain. The road to the summit (aptly named Summit Road) has several switchbacks and "hairpin curves" and in quite a few places does NOT have guardrails, despite sharp dropoffs.

Have been here a number of times and it is a beautiful view of the city, well maintained; It says they are open until 11:00 p.m. yet the gates were locked up at 7:00 p.m.. Why?? Disappointed. The night views would have been priceless.

Awesome view point to see the valley. Easy hikes around the stone structure. You might have to wait for the parking. So if you want to catch sunset, go a little early. Worth seeing City lights after sunset.

I cannot put into words how much I love this lookout. Easily accessible and popular tourist attraction, yet not crowded at all. Entry closes at 7 so if you want to see the sunset, arrive before then.

Hike it or drive it, either way the view is amazing. Great photo opportunities, and a stone building await you on the Summit trail of South Mountain. I look forward to visiting during the sunset.

Beautiful views of the city. One of the easiest ways to get a picture of Phoenix without the need of hiking. Try to come during the monsoon season and see storm cells roll through the valley!

Wow, it is so amazing to watch the sunset. You can literally see the downtown buildings become golden or as if they have been set on fire. It is pretty amazing experience to witness.

Very nice look out, but poor visibility when I went. Drive up slowly, roads are narrow and winding, but never felt unsafe.

Love the view but hours on this site were not correct. Wanted to see it at night, but gates closed at 7, not 11.
