Every part of the Phoenix Mountain Preserves renders a great experience. If you want to do something as a visitor in Arizona, definitely go to any of the Phoenix Mtn. Preserves at Sunrise and Sunset and take some amazing photos. If youre a native and you have experienced the preserves then youre in for a surprise. The trails are rarely hiked by anyone. They have fantastic views of not just the landscape but of the full spectum of Arizonas indigenous animals as well. Having said that, just this evening for sundown I hiked up The La Princessa side to the top of Window Rock and just before the top I ran into a huge hive of bees that were in a large cleft in the rock. They were very aggressive so be careful, I almost ran off into what wouldve been much a much worse scenario, the cliffs edge, trying to run from those little ss.

Humongous - thats the preserve anyway. You can wander for miles. We always hit the entrance just northeast of Lincoln and 32nd st. Theres a tiny parking lot there, but you can park across the street (not at Starbucks! theyll tow you), and its a nice hike/walk up to the top of a hill with a bench on it. Sit down and peel an orange, and stare at the view of the city. Keep walking north all the way up to Shea almost if you want - or west to Piestewa Peak. Its all interconnected. I was just at Dreamy Draw today --- its all connected. Just miles of it. Enjoy! And bring plenty of water.

I almost dont want to write this review because I love how empty it is.... But also there are so many trails broken off from the 32nd street trailhead (parking is not easy because there are less than 20 spots) but its my favorite hiking spot close to home. There are hilly trails that you can run but also a few trails with some good incline so theres a little for everyone. I like it because its not nearly as busy as Squaw Peaks main trail (which you can actually get to from the 32nd st trailhead) or either of the Camelback trails.

Great Hiking and biking. I feel biased since I live right next to it, but it is an amazing desert outdoor opportunity just minutes from many places in Phoenix. Bike trails can be filled with hikers, especially on cool weekend mornings, so just be cognizant before trying to bomb a long downhill section. Wildlife I have seen in the preserve: Great horned owl, red tailed hawk, coyote, bobcat, roadrunner, javelina, diamondback rattlesnake, and many rabbits and hares.

Still one of the best ways to stay fit naturally and challenge yourself. Hike the peak and see for yourself. Please- Hydrate hours before and move at your own pace the first time. Practice safety and common sense and come back for many more visits. I like to check the pollution advisory before I hike. And lastly it adds to your workout weight and may save a life. Bring a bottle of water for a friend or passer by and hike with wings. You little angels....

This is a great hike for those that desire a less busy mountain. Always open parking at the commercial corner off of Lincoln and 32nd. Unlike echo canyon they allow dogs. The trail is easy at the beginning but gets more difficult towards the top. If you want to make it harder, take the trail to the South west once you reach the second bench. View from the top is amazing and you will likely have the peak all to yourself.

Spectacular hike! Wear trail shoes on this one due to Rocky terrain and slippery rocks/terrain. Love the increases in incline and switchbacks along the way. Very challenging cardio wise and quad strength wise. Near the end, I loves the rock like stairs leading up to the summit. Quad burn there! Very enjoyable view from the top overlooking the city. Halos are great to eat before heading down.

Some of my favorite hiking in PHX. Not too crowded, endless trails and a good variety of trail skill. You can go easy and just walk the sidewalk path or hike to the peak of one of the many mountains. Also a great spot for family photos! We did ours here and they turned out really well. Right off the highway, so easy access and straight into nature.

The North Mountain park is a lot bigger than it first appears since you can go under 7th Street and Cave Creek Rd. to continue hiking to the east. A nice combination of terrain. The Visitors Center is run by friendly volunteers and offers recreation and craft classes, hikes, and a good selection of outdoor books. They also have trail snacks.

Beautiful, peaceful, calming, and definitely happy these preserves exist! Came here for a walk when I visited my friend who lives in AZ. The air is crisp and fresh and when youre here in the winter its definitely the perfect temperature for a stroll. Recommend any mountain preserve to people who like the outdoors and appreciate nature.

Awesome hike. Shouldnt of tried it in over 100 degree heat towards end of summer. But maybe thats normal to hike in the heat here(Im from San Diego) Almost made it to top but ran low on water and felt light headed. Overall some beautiful views from up there but be safe and read the other reviews for safety tips.

Trails were not marked well, found myself on lots of hiking trails that I couldnt bike on. Not that Im whining its just that I was from out of town and it was hard to find my way around. Also the 90° at sunrise made it challenging! Parking lot had nice facilities.

Piestewa (Shaw) Peak is an excellent little climb, second highest peak in Phoenix, with a view of the downtown as well as Camelbak Mountain, the highest peak. Highly recommended for moderate climbers to get out and stretch their legs and get a nice view.

Short easily accessed hikes. Find the "heart Rick tree" where thousands of passers by drop their heart shaped rock. Around 10 parking spaces and two handicapped spots. Lots of signage in catty-corner strip mall about not parking there to hike.

Breathe taking place. Great trails for hiking or biking. You can make it as long or strenuous as you like. Need sunscreen, glasses, hat and water even in the morning. Great exercise outside the resort gym. Beautiful views. Visit. ****

One of my favorite hikes to just get a quick taste of the outdoors and exercise. Its always busy, and there is often a lot of perfume worn by the ladies here... but it is still worth going in my opinion. A great leg workout!

Great local hikes. Great view of the city. Desert wildlife abounds. It gets crowded and can sometimes be difficult to find parking. The late spring/summertime is too brutal for me, but every other time of year is beautiful.

It was a nice walk. Hummingbirds and lizards! Hummers were up close and personal. Easy trails. Nice views with a different angle of Camelback and Squaw-Piestewa Peaks. Nice sunrise..off the hill by 9am. Warm but doable.

I love this hike. It is definitely a good workout and the view from the top makes it very rewarding. It can take up to 15 minutes to find a parking spot at peak times, like 8:00 a.m. on the weekend in the Spring.

Many hiking options with loops. Also you can pick easy, mild, and steep uphill grades. Some trails are high traffic most are not especially if you access the park from the north side on neighborhood side streets.
