Warning! Bow Tie now has what they are marketing as Reserved seating for all shows. Seriously? So when the theatre is near empty and you want to move, you feel like youre breaking the rules! Or someone sits next to you because they "reserved" that seat and starts munching on nachos and slurping a soda and youre not supposed to move to another seat?!!! And why pay the same amount of money for a seat in the front row as you do for one right in the middle of the theatre where sound and screen angle are perfect? If youre going to charge for reserved seating, not all seats in a theatre are the same. Ask for a discount for a crappy seat. An ill-thought out marketing tool that is just so unnecessary and ridiculous. Wont be going there again until they get rid of it. Hey Bow Tie—ever heard of paying to watch a newly released movie in your own home where you can sit anywhere you like? And not have to deal with seat numbers like youre at a concert? Wake up!

My only visit here was to see Star Wars in 3D well after the crowds had died down. I had seen it already in another theater. There was a problem with the audio that to most people would go unnoticed. There was almost no signal from the surround speakers or subwoofers. The result was a very treble-heavy, front-only sound stage. For a romcom, it would be no big deal. But for a movie like Star Wars, the audio is half the experience. The speakers werent the problem, as the commercials before the previews sounded correct. But once the previews and film started, the surround & bass disappeared. Two trips out to the concession stand for help yielded no results. Two managers apparently checked everything and verified it was playing as intended. What a shame when your basement sounds better than a professional theater. Wont return, even for a romcom.

A comfortable theater with the option to purchased reserved seating tickets (if you expect the showing to sell out) and a moderate food/drink selection. To the reviewer complaining about "assigned seats", I often purchase a reserved ticket, but if the theater is more empty than anticipated, you can certainly move to another seat. If you dont like the person sitting next to you, move. No one is walking around with flashlights demanding to see stubs... Im not a theater snacks person, so I cant speak to the popcorn quality. Bow Tie Cinemas is no Alamo Drafthouse, but its a quality theater located in a vibrant area. Having dinner at a nearby restaurant and walking 5 minutes to see a movie is fun and convenient.

Weve been going here since we moved to Reston this spring and have been pleased. The theater is newly refurbished and theres stadium seating in all the theaters. Theres a "retro" cinema occasionally (We saw "Fast Times at Ridgemont High") and "classic" cinema on Saturday mornings. There was once a problem with the projection and we had to be moved to another theater. Because the show started a little late, the manager gave us free tickets to a future movie so I cant complain. There always seems to be at least one--and frequently more--film playing that wed like to see.

I used to love this place, but they really let it run down. Paid extra for BTX, but the projector was so faded/weak that it was hard to make out most of the movie. This seems to be true across most of the theaters here, as usually its hit or miss whether the movie is dark/washed out. Prices are expensive here and its only really worth it at this point for a discount movie Tuesday. Seats are nothing special anymore compared to the recliner seats that are standard at AMC. No service for dobly Atmos sound, and overall the speakers for action movies are underwhelming.

Ive been meaning to write a review for a month. Better late than never...I live about 50 minutes away but had purchased movie tickets online to take me, my kids, a friend (who lives near Reston Town Center), and her kids to see Gatsby for Mothers Day. When we were about 5 minutes away I realized that I did not have the credit card used for the purchase (required at the cinema). Thankfully, Ethan Ochis is fantastic and orchestrated a "purchase plus later phone refund" that meant I would not have to pay $78 for tickets twice. Ethan Ochis, you are AWESOME.

The facilities are really nice. It is close to home but we will be going to another theater from now on. We have had the problem of them double booking seats. It might be fine if we were watching a movie where there werent going to be many people, but we go there to see new movies that are pretty crowded. We go to our seat numbers only to find people sitting there. We compared tickets and turns out we have the same assigned seats. We ended up sitting where there were seats left, which were obviously not good seats. We are sick of having this problem.

Despite the addition of a "wine bar" and an instant coffee machine, this isnt any different from the multiplex theater you knew. The average staff person is too young to drink that wine and, yes, they are still learning the basics of customer service but set your expectations low and you will be fine. But hey, you didnt come here to watch cinema. You want movies! So knock that half empty box of popcorn aside and stick yourself into the stadium seating. The show is starting... late.

Ive never felt the need to go online and rate a restaurant, movie theater, etc., but this place flat out sucks. You would think with it being in such a rich area that it would be decent but nope, think again.I paid $21 for two tickets (no student discount), the theater was as big as someones living room, you had to crane you neck to watch the movie, and worst of all there was NO HEAT IN THE THEATER! My gf had two jackets laid over her while I froze. Never again.

Dont like how the bathrooms are set up. They are located in very inconvenient places. To get to the downstairs bathroom you have to purchase your tickets first because you have to show your ticket at the next booth to enter into the rest of the building. On the second floor, out seems like the bathroom is a like mile away from the theatre. They couldve done a better job at placing the bathrooms. And maybe not just having one m and w per floor.

I think the free closed caption device is awesome. Best ever. It is like a goose-neck lamp that goes in the cup holder and can be twisted in any direction. For the first time I can position a captioning device at the bottom of the screen and read while I watch. All others require me to choose whether I read or see what is happening. That enables me to do both at the same time. Thank you Bow Tie. You have a movie lover back as a customer.

The reserved seating is a great new accommodation, but the projectors are not set up properly. I saw Spectre, or at least tried to see it in their BTX theater which prides itself as being 4K. The picture was so blurry it hurt my eyes. When I went to see the new Star Wars movie there was a very large red dot directly in the center of the screen which was very distracting. The Bow Tie theater in Annapolis is great, but this one is not.
