I debated whether or not to write this, because I have always thought individuals that write intense, negative reviews either had a personal vendetta or axe to grind. However, the experience I had at the Long Hollow Winery yesterday, along with my friends, was so atrocious, I feel I must "warn" others... Dont get me wrong; I have had a good experience there before, in May of this year, when I attended a tasting with a bachelorette party. It was for that reason that I invited my friends to come with me to a tasting, with intentions of stocking up on Long Hollows wine, which is very, very good. We werent greeted warmly by the elderly woman, Aldona, who is the wife of the man who owns the winery. She barked orders to her assistant, who had only begun her position a few hours before. I should have known something was wrong, when she told another man attending the tasting with his girlfriend that "tours arent given because the wine isnt made there," despite the fact that their sign in front and their souvenir glasses advertise tours and I was told tours were conducted when I went in May. She refused to let us taste all of their wines, because "we started by drinking semi-sweets, and you cant go back and taste any of the others." When I told her we didnt mind abandoning wine protocols and furthered that my friends wouldnt know what they wanted to purchase because they had never tasted it, she made up a lie about government regulations stating she cant let people try more than 5. (All of the other vineyards in TN weve visited let us taste all of their products, one of our party works in a law firm and knew this "law" was bogus, and I had tried all of their products when I visited in May.) Its very difficult to convey how rude this woman was; her attitude was belittling and between her spewing lies and yelling at her assistant until we felt so sorry and embarrassed for the girl we gave her a huge tip and apologized on this womans behalf, we decided to give her no business. Its a shame for her, because between the four of us, we planned on buying well more than a case. She is an embarrassment to the winery, and while I will not go so far as to say anything negative about the winery itself, as its wines are marvelous creations, make sure you dont schedule a tasting for a day when she will be working, and if you walk in and see a elderly woman in pancake makeup and a hairpiece styled in the 60s, do yourself a favor and walk back out the door.

I have to disagree about Aldona. I read this review before going there and kept an eye out for her. We pulled up to a very beautiful building. Walked in to a very beautiful mural and displays. Tasted ALL the wines without any attitude. And Aldona came out from the back of the shop with a wonderful attitude. I think maybe Dana caught her on a bad day? My husband is not a wine drinker AT ALL but he tasted it in front of Aldona and the lady serving us and he compared ALL wine to lighter fluid and they all laughed and joked with us. I will be going back.

On our way to Nashville we stopped in on a Wednesday afternoon. The owner helped us and provided amazing service. He not only was proud of his wine but also wanted to educate me ( in a very positive non snobby way) about wine. He has a real passion and you can tell he wanted to share his knowledge. He recommended other restaurants and wines as well. My group ended up leaving with 7 bottles of wine and a few other things they sold. I will make sure to stop by any time I am in the area.

Long Hollow was a stop on our winery tour. The ladies were very friendly, personable and knowledgeable. The owner was extremely courteous. Their wines tasted the best of any on our tour. I will definitely be back.
