Having been to City Winery for several shows now, I thought that it was about time to give this place a review. Sitting snuggly, a block or so, behind the Convention Center on Lafayette, you can, as I have, drive right past this place but once you find it, it is a lovely space to spend an evening. Parking is valet only, unless you are savvy at finding street parking nearby (which I am and no I wont give away my secret locations). If you cant find street parking, no worries, the cost to valet park will not shock your wallet. Its a lovely building with a wine grape vine growing around the front. The inside is spacious and has an open, welcoming feel. I thoroughly enjoy the variety of performances that this venue books. Initially, I thought that it was just going to be yet another "Nashville-esque" venue with the same talent popping in and out but Ive been introduced to a number of acts that I would probably not have found otherwise. Kudos to them for this! The prices for the shows are extremely reasonable. The more popular the talent, the more the ticket will cost, of course, but even the priciest ticket that Ive purchased has been reasonable. I love the ambiance of the performance area, wide open with plenty of seating. I will say choose wisely for the shows, Im not a fan of passing waiters/waitresses during a show but this is not a deal breaker. I am absolutely a wine lover but for whatever reason, Im never in the mood for wine when I come here. I have perused the wine list and its nice. The mixed drinks are decent and are priced maybe a little less than some of the trendier spots in the city. If beer is your thing, they do have a small selection. The food is good. Its not the best in the city but its on par with other restaurants. So far, Ive had the risotto balls, the duck flatbread, and the caramelized pork belly. None have disappointed. The staff has always been attentive and very professional. It can be a challenge at times, to get another drink once the venue is full and the show has started but I will not hold that against them. If a drink is needed as soon as your glass is empty, there is a bar in the back. FYI - If a show is ever cancelled, they go above and beyond taking care of you for the inconvenience. I received a personal phone call when they realized that I hadnt checked my email to alert me to a cancelled show. In the email, they offered me a full refund or City Winery credit and 2 complimentary tickets to another show. I mean seriously, how many other venues would do this! Im thinking that I need to start ordering the wine and finally become a vinofile.

My daughter and I attended a concert at City Winery on 10/3/16. I couldnt have been more pleased with our seats, the service, the food or the wine. Overall it was a fantastic experience. I thought I might mention a couple of things that others might find helpful though. 1) Nashville City Winery is located relatively close to Mercy Lounge and Cannery Row in a warehouse district. There are a few one-way streets used to get there and a very busy 4 or 5 point intersection that was a bit stressful for someone not familiar with the area. Although there are restaurants and bars within a few blocks, its not a very walkable area, meaning there are busy streets, a railroad track, and block buildings with few sidewalks. 2) Parking is valet for $6, which I think is cheap, but dont expect to park anywhere else. Theres not much around. 3) Its located right next door to the Nashville Rescue Mission. We didnt have any incidents. Just be aware that there may be homeless men milling around the parking lot next door. 4) Dinner reservations are included with show tickets, but the menu is limited, consisting primarily of small plates and appetizers with three or so entree selections. The food was good though and food and beverage service is provided throughout the show. All in all it was a great experience, and I am looking forward to seeing another show there.

Go here for the Music not the food or service. The menu looks good on paper but ended up being a semi warm mess that tasted like Macky Ds. Had the Truffle fries that were barely edible and if you closed your eyes, the peaches and prosciutto appetizer tastes exactly like a McDonalds Cheeseburger only at 10x the price. Could not eat it. Oh yea, they server warm water too. Cool! The person I was with had the Pork surprise... it was OK. But looked like it was scooped off the floor onto the plate. We just started laughing it looked so funny. I got the Steak something and it was served on a bed of brown goo and had some sort of reduction that tasted like prunes. The person I was with gave it 2 stars out 10 and I would have to agree.. Service was a 3 out of 10 and it was really, really really overpriced. We are asked if this was out appetizers by kitchen runners 5 times, with the 5th time being ours. If you are going to spend this much money, do yourself a favor and go to the Hermitage Oak Room down the street. The food and service is really over the top and worth what you will spend here. Ambiance is better too. If you want to the same taste, spend 2 bucks and get a happy meal and at least the fries will be good!

I absolutely loved my night at the city winery. The building had a rather hipster feel to it but at the same time felt quite laid back and inviting. In my experience, locations that offer music and dining tend to lack in one (or both) of those fields. That being said, I would go back for both the music and the food. The food section of the menu may not have been very large, but everyone at my table was thoroughly satisfied with their order. I highly recommend ordering the fried brussel sprouts, although I didnt come close to finishing them they were very unique and delicious. On the music side, the experience was very intimate. The performers were able to engage with the audience in a way that cant happen at a larger venue. In addition to this, for being an active restaurant with waiters and diners, the atmosphere was very respectful and did not get in the way of enjoying the music.

Great potential, not so great execution. The venue has great acoustics but there is something about it - table lay out, seating styles, something - that causes it to feel more like dinner theater than a live music venue. For me, this results in a disconnect between artist and audience reflected by a less engaged audience. I feel bad for great performers who are falling flat with the audience here because the ambiance is off. My primary reason for going is the music, however, they serve food too, so..... The food is just ok, and as so many others point out, the service in the venue is very slow (the restaurant may be fine) and the pricing seems a bit high for the offerings. With so many other venues to choose from, City Winery needs to step up their game or risk being a short-timer.
