I will say, my party and I enjoyed ourselves for a few hours drinking wine and eating delicious cheeses. The female staffer was a joy to be around, and very knowledgeable regarding the vineyard. However, this all came to a halt when an obnoxious lady came in with her dog. Keep in mind, there is a clearly marked sign on the main entrance stating "no dogs allowed inside". One of the employees spoke to her, and I assumed he was letting her know about the sign and her dog, but told her she had to move her car instead. This lady then had the nerve to ask us to watch her dog while she moved her car! At this time, I think we had all decided this place was not for us, and that our little day trip was pretty much done. As we left, we were trying to be polite by cleaning up after ourselves, the same lady had the audacity to ask for our opened uneaten food sitting on our tray. This is unlike any place Ive been in the area, and I dont think Ill ever be returning. My advice to Valerie Hill is to not post signs with rules you dont intend to enforce. A woman with a dog dressed as a child has clearly fooled you, and chased a polite young group away ... never to return.

Our experience at Valerie Hill Vineyard & Winery was the most disappointing of any winery my wife and I have ever visited. It took about an hour and a half of round trip travel time to get out to the winery, which is somewhat in the sticks. The old "haunted" house they are located in seems interesting and full of character. However, we found the current inhabitants to be less than hospitable. Upon entering the winery about ten minutes prior to closing, the owner (or manager) glared at us without a greeting or even a simple smile. When I said hello and inquired about a wine tasting she stated that she couldnt serve us any wine because she had just put the wine pumps away, despite the fact that there were several other patrons (or friends) currently drinking wine at the bar. Maybe they were drinking wine from one of those bottles that is simply opened and poured, not pumped. We were told to come back another day, which is not likely to ever happen. If you are looking for a hospitable environment with friendly and happy people, I cant recommend this place.

Very pretty place, many many spaces and rooms to spread out in, including outside areas. The tasting bar however is VERY small, when I went there was a good 10 minute wait to do a tasting and you could tell some other customers were getting cranky about waiting. All the wine we tried was good, we especially liked the chardonnay. They do have light food, like bread and cheese so if you need something to pair with wine they do serve snacks. Jenny did our tasting and she was super friendly and helpful. Thank you Jenny! We will be back to sample more wine and see if we have any encounters with the resident spooks.

Beautiful location. Friendly staff. Tasty wine and chocolates. We stopped in the middle of a long drive from Roanoke to Philadelphia. We needed a break from the horrors of I-81 and we got it. Valerie Hill we a very pleasant interlude in an otherwise stressful day.

A unique location in the wineries of this area. The building has lots of ins and out that makes it interesting to peruse the spaces. I found a red that I loved and bought three bottles for home. Highly recommended and good for families as well.

Great wines and friendly staff. Got there about an hour before closing so just got some wine to go but would have loved to sit out on the patio. Mostly dry wine, and mostly whites for right now but the wine they did have was great.

We are members and love the wine, and atmosphere. I could easily spend any given weekend here with friends, and often do. I recomend paying attention to when they have music on hand. A great local vibe.

I enjoy myself everytime I visit Valerie Hill. Summer days enjoying the outdoor seating while enjoying the view and a crisp clean Vidal Blanch puts me in a great mood.

This is our favorite local winery. It is a family run winery that have put in a ton of sweat equity to make great wine on an amazing property that they have restored.
