This review is about customer service/care. On a positive note: The wine is great, the staff is wonderful accept for one person I met today. Today I was traveling to Richmond to go to my beloved grandmothers funeral. I was thinking I should stop at the winery because it is on the way from Newport News. I googled the winery and on the page it came up with hours and directions. It said "Monday Hours: 10am to 5pm" I figured I would stop on my way and bring a few bottles of wine. Our family loves wine and I love New Kent White Norton. I proceed to stop on my way to Richmond. I pull in and find only one car, which didnt surprise me because Monday can be slow. I walked up to find the door locked, but I could hear a voice coming from inside. I knocked and received no answer. So I called instead. The man answers the phone. I told him I am right outside. He said. "Were closed" in a stern voice, "but of you need to use the restroom I will open the door." I told him no, but that Google states the hours are 10am to 5pm on Monday. He said "Hang on I will come to the door." He hung up and opened the door. I explained my situation, I said (with out crying, which was very hard to do) "I am driving from Newport News to Richmond to my grandmothers funeral and I really love your wine and would like to take some to my family. I love your White Norton" he proceeded to cut me off by stating again, that he is closed. He apologized, but it was a rude tone a "Cant you see Im really busy" tone, not a real apology. I then showed him on my phone the hours. And he argued with me A little "He said but thats not our hours Google is wrong, that is our winter hours I will have my assistant check into that." And he shut the door and went back to his office. I specialized in hospitality and customer service and I used to rave about how great this place was because of it, but not anymore. I was prepared to spend quite a bit of money on wine. You would think he would have looked past what his business hours are and help a grieving woman who wants to share his companys wine with her family as they celebrate memories of their recently lost loved one (he seamed like the kind of person who could make that decision) but he was very quick to turn away my business. As a small business owner, I would never turn away a sale, never. On that note, I will never drink New Kent Wine again. I have brought several people to you directly. And I used to be a Concierge for Kingsmill Resort in Williamsburg, I used to send hundreds of people to New Kent Winery over the Williamsburg one, just because I loved your wine. Never again. Instead I will tell them how great the wine is but how their manager/owner was too busy to make a sale, because he didnt value my time. I am disappointed. This winery has a lot of potential, but I will never come here again. Ive bought about 8 bottles directly here and the rest locally in total wine, but I know Ive sent thousands of dollars of business to you as a concierge and I get squat in return. My friends have bought cases from you... Plural, cases, and hopefully will reconsider giving you business too.

Incredibly rude gentleman took the time to say to me that "this place is not a jungle gym" and "kids should not be running around" when asked if they rent out frisbees or anything of the sort. Let me ask you this... On mothers day 2016 did you not anticipate children being present? And do you not know what children like to do? They like to run and play. With all the space on the grounds, and being that most wineries encourage family fun time, i thought they would do the same. This place is uptight and NOT family friendly. And to the guy who had the nerve to speak so rudely to me, you need a lesson in customer service. I brought 6 adults to your winery; all of which bought from you. But you couldnt bear to be a bit more polite in your response. Our business wont be back again. The tasting bar was great though. Very polite and playful ladies; I think one was Sue. Unfortunate that their hard work was offset by a very rude host (pretty sure he was an owner/manager as he was dressed differently than the ladies at the tasting table)

I must say that New Kent Winery is one of the most impressive and beautiful wineries I have ever been to. Having traveled through Napa Valley and Sonoma, I consider that I have seen quite a few very elite and upscale wineries and New Kent Winery is one of them. The idea that more than 80% of the winery building has been recycled is truly amazing. Woods were harvested from all over the world as well as the brass and copper. The tasting bar actually allows you to enjoy the view of the vineyards thru a huge glass window. Most tasting bars have you facing a wall, so kudos to whomever designed this clever feature. I would recommend a tour and tasting for the beginner or the expert.

Ive visited many wineries and New Kent is always the one I come back to. My husband and I had our wedding and reception here and I couldnt have asked for a better staff or event coordinator. Mike Bobbitt is exceptional. He answered all of my questions, eased my worries, and made our special day even more memorable. I owe him more than I could ever give. The wine is delicious. The white merlot is by far our favorite and we order it (because were out of town) and it is always delivered in a timely manner. Erin was great about putting our order together and everything arrived in one piece! I cannot give New Kent and its staff enough praise!

I was so excited to attend a cooking class a few weeks ago, and I had the time of my life! I am not a seasoned wine expert, in fact do not usually drink. During the salad course I tasted the most magnificent pairing of wine and food. The white Merlot is a tribute to why people love great wine. The dinner was amazing . Joe and Joanna the owners, take great pride and passion in wine making and making their guests feel like family. Its like a dinner party with 40 of your newest and most wonderful friends! This is an evening not to be missed!

The winery facility and grounds are very nice. Has a very nice ambiance and view of the vineyards below the the building. The staff is very nice and welcoming. The wine unfortunately is not that appealing. The Vidal blanc is the only bottle that I will purchase. I think this place has allot of potential and could be allot better if the wine was better and had live entertainment more frequently.

This place was absolutely beautiful!! I tried a wine tasting and got a very nice tour around the facility. I brought home a bottle of their white merlot. If it wasnt so hot the day I visited I would have stayed to enjoy a glass (or bottle) outside to enjoy the view. Its a shame they do not provide the take home wine glass with the tasting. I do like to collect them.
