This was our second visit to Casanel after a few years and Im glad my wife and I went back. The wines have definitely improved in the last few years and they are making some great changes to the layout of the tasting room and outside seating. Katie, the tasting room manager greeted us at the door and explained that dogs are no longer allowed in the tasting room, but that she would be happy to give us a sit down tasting outside on the patio. Great customer service to start our visit. She was very knowledgeable of the wine, wine-making process and really made our visit enjoyable. We like both white and red wines and werent disappointed. I preferred the oakiness of the Viognier over the Chardonnay and took home a bottle of that. For the reds, the Cab Sauv was pretty good, but I really enjoyed the Petit Verdot. Its a little pricey, but continues to show how good of a year 2010 was to Va wine. I also typically do not like Rose wine, but the Norton Rose was very flavorful. Its the perfect start to your Rt. 9 tour since its at the beginning off Rt. 7.

Another great Virginia winery. The whites were crisp and clean, and well made. I am usually a red wine drinker and generally dont like Pinot Gris/Grigios, but these were good. The red wine were well made and great. The Norton was lighter bodied and showcased the fruit. It was nice to enjoy on the warmer day. The K2 was more full bodied and again well made and showcased the grapes. Our server, Eric, greeted us at the door and showed us to a tasting table where he proceeded to perform our tasting giving us information about the wines, winemaking, and winery. He was very friendly and helpful, and we had a great time. The winery itself is beautiful with plenty of room, tasting areas, and places to relax. They have a nice deck out back overlooking some wooden hills, grapevines, and a pond with a gazebo.

What a beautiful place! I randomly Google searched for vineyards in Virginia, found this one and fell in love with the pictures. Went there today and couldnt have been more impressed. It is family owned and has a truly "at home" atmosphere. The wine tasting was awesome. It was not rushed at all and everything about the wines was explained in great detail. All the wine names have special meanings too! I will most certainly be going back.

There was a slight wait, but it was well worth it. The wine maker did our tasting and with each wine I felt like I had a personal connection to the wine. I knew what I would taste and what went in to making the wine give off every flavor I tasted on my palette. The petit Verdot was by far my favorite and I cant wait to come back in the summer to sit outside.

Amazing quality wine, made by a woman who absolutely knows her technical skills and isnt shy about dropping a knowledge bomb. Every wine was great (well, except I dont like dessert wine ever), which is something I have not said about a Virginia wine, save Linden Vineyards in Linden, Virginia.

Nice winery but $50 for a bottle of red is ridiculous. Not kid friendly. Dont have a basketball hoop with a ball set up if you dont people playing with it. The petit Verdot was great but again $45 plus tax for a bottle is crazy. We wont be back just on the prices alone.

Im a "red" girl personally but find that I prefer the whites at this family-owned and operated winery. The setting is beautiful and the staff is absolutely a delight. To me - customer service is key to a successful winery and they have it in spades.

Casanel is a gem. No big crowds or kids running around, with some of the best wines you can find in Loudoun. If you are lucky enough to get a tasting with Katie, she will give you a first-hand account of how each wine was made. Highly recommend.

These wines are the best Ive had. The price is low for the quality of the wine and the warmth of the staff. You only have to go a couple times and you are part of the Casanel family! It doesnt get any better.

The "gentleman" that "greeted" us at the door was so rude that we took our business elsewhere.
