Great place to exercise clean and good facility. Some of the staff are good and respectful. I always come here to play some basketball and everything was going great. But, one day, while playing basket the manager (my guess she was having a bad day) rudely kicks me out of the facility because she said, (Im using her own words) "profanities," I was being loud but to say that she heard that and didnt even give me warning before hand, she never approached me to tell me that I was saying profanity. But also was the way she treated me in front of people, I am 31 years old and she treated me like a spoil bratt, in front of lots of people, strangers and friends. I demanded to ask for an explanation and everything she said was "leave or I call the cops." I wasnt even resisting or anything I was actually leaving but thats not the way to treat someone, let alone an adult. She does need some training on how to handle situations and honestly she did ruin what was a good day for me. Also after I left my friend stayed playing basketball but not even 5 min passed and called me that they where complaining again that "they are being too loud." We have always played here. Come on! is a basketball game and people are playing happily without hurting anyone. Loud? Is basketball, since when you play any game quietly. I wish I had the camera to show, it did look like the youtube video of the cop getting a complain from a house because kids where playing basketball loudly. I would understand that even if I was coursing she comes and quietly gives me a warning or something but what she did and the way she degraded talked to me was really bad. I hope her nothing but the best but I just hope she can treat me with respect because I have never done anything, let alone anything illigal to her or the facility. Please, I would strongly recomend that she really treats people on a more humane way, and even if someone did something wrong make it private between her and the wrongdoing person, specially if they are wailing to cooperate and everything they ask was just a more detailed explanation on why are they being kicked out. I never fought or even insulted anybody in all the years I have been here, and when all this happened everyone in the court was surprised on why I was being kicked out.

At the counter kept asking ID for my son who is 16. I could not explain to therm a minor should be able to enter with my ID as a guest if I pay the $6. He doesnt have/need an ID- even the school didnt give him, what am I gonna carry his passport around? Then he was at the weight room working out (no fooling around just he and his friend doing arm curls and stuff) in comes a staff asking for their age. And starts hassling them, that at 16 not allowed to use weight room without adult supervision. These kids have been trained in school, they play football, and allowed to use the weight room in school unsupervised and the same city, rec center couple of miles from Rice doing this nonsense. And then when they try to argue the point, staff threatens "ban them for life". Cmon, is this Plano, TX or Pyongyang, N Korea. Ive gone to other rec centers, never have I come across this kind of rudeness and incompetence.

The City of Plano has some of the best Recreation Centers around. Carpenter Park is but one of them. They not only have the exercise room, basket ball courts, racket ball courts, badminton, waffle ball, running track, ping pong, pool table, locker rooms with showers, they also very nice staff that can check you in quickly or take the time to assure you get what you need. The center also has a variety of classes you can sign up to take including exercise classes like Zumba, Jazzercise, and Line Dance but also things like violin lessons for kid. If you havent been there, check them out. It is both economical and provides a variety of healthy activities. Also membership allows access to other centers in Plano some of which have other activities such as swimming.

2/22/2009 Justice Liu Wrote: I brought my 9-year daughter to the Carpenter Recreation Center to play some table tennis this afternoon. We arrived at around 4:40pm and reserved a table for 5:00pm at check-in. When its our turn, there was another group asking to play at the same table. We went to the front desk to confirm the reservation and the answer was that we didnt reserve the table. What a service! I just talked to the front desk 30 minutes ago! The Plano city government just doubled the membership fee not long ago. I strongly demand that the quality of the staff and the service be enhanced at the same time. Dont think that the residents will take whatever crap the city government throws at us. Justice

The facility has received upgrades in recent years (including a new room with treadmills and other exercise machines. Generally its crowded most hours. If you like soccer, youll fit right in on the adjoining soccer fields that are frequently packed for practices and matches. Traffic into and out of the facility is a bit dangerous, particularly if hanging a left from or onto Coit Road. Avoid the facility (except when youre voting) during early voting and on Election Day because it is a busy polling place.

The city needs to do a better job at posting what fields and first come first serve and for public use. In addition, the public use fields are in horrible condition with potholes, very easy to get twist your ankle while playing soccer or football. The goals are also in terrible condition. An overall lack of care to these public use fields makes this park hard to recommend.

I went there with my brother who was visiting us from Herndon, Virginia, to play some racquetball. We ended up playing for about 3 hours, which included, foosball, Gym, Pool, Basketball, the indoor walking/jogging track. We had an awesome time and my brother told me its much much cheaper than Virginia. The staff is great too.

I have been using the exercise bikes and weight equipment almost every day for 3 months. The equipment is kept very clean, the TVs have a good variety of programming and the staff is always friendly and helpful. The guests also seem to be very respectful of each other. Glad my local taxes are well spent for a change!!

In response to the gentleman who is concerned that the Carpenter Center is geared more toward seniors, please be advised there are a lot of us trying to improve our health thanks to doctors "orders" and because we want to feel better.. Perhaps a private health club would be a better choice for some folks.

So far I love this place. The staff has been kind and helpful. Ive worked at country clubs, parks and recreation centers for over 20 years. Im a new member here and my perception is that this is reasonably well run. I will update this review if anything changes.

I really love this center. We play pickle ball on Monday and Tuesday mornings. It is so much fun and an excellent workout. Coffy is the person who set this up. She is the best. Hopefully, Friday mornings will open up for pickle ball soon! Thanks, Coffy!

I love this place. The equipment collection is good and there is enough for everyone. I have rarely had a situation where I could not find an equipment empty for what I wanted to do. I am still unclear on how to get on the badminton roster...
