I love the blues. The live music that played was wonderful and professional. No garage band here. However, the male help is less than desirable. I noticed how the owner of the bar would sit in the corner and when someone took his seat (you couldnt tell anyone was sitting there or using that chair, as it was off in the corner), he acted as if you stole his wife. Maybe this is his way of not having to pay a bodyguard by being the gruff bouncer type but for goodness sakes, smile and be nice! Though he wasnt mean to me (thank gawd)- the only male bartender with the black 80s flock of seagull haircut was. I stood there as he helped everyone but me. He very non-appologetically gave me the drink free though that wasnt what I wanted. I just wanted to be served in the order of the cue-up. You could tell he couldnt crack a smile and to talk to him he wouldnt even look at you until I had to say, "Do I have to speak up? (to get served here?)" three times. I wasnt even being obnoxious, just asking a matter of fact question. So he said, "Im just making sure my best client gets a drink". Then the client himself, an obvious alcoholic man in his 90s, turned to me and said, "And I tip like a Mo Fo". The free drink sucked and Im sure if I werent standing there watching he would have spit in it. The blonde waitress was very kind and attentive. She and the music were the only positive things about the place. Like the previous reviewer, I too will be letting others know about my experience at this bar. With all the places in Houston to choose from that will go out of their way to make you feel good, why go here?

i cant believe this place... im not the one to go and right reviews but this place made get online and right one .... the bartender/owner was the rudest ive ever come across.... me and my girlfriend show up on a sunday night looking foward to hear some zadico andi could not believe how rude the bartender was... my girlfriend asked a simple question.. "can we play the jute box" and that loser {owner/bartender} responded with " if you put money in it, it plays" we just wanted to know if it was alright because the band was almost ready to play.and not only that the place was dead quiet when we got there... ive never been so ofended before....... the music was great but the service could not get any worse.. the fn bartender had the nerve to throw my debit card at me.. you believe that.. ive been here once before a few yrs ago and it hasnt changed.. i stormed out of there because how angry the owner made me feel.. this place should have a sign on the front door " WARNING..... RACIST OWNER" " NO HISPANICS ALLOWED"

On a random, chilly night, we were on the quest to find live music and a hopping bar that was anywhere but midtown. Somehow we stumbled upon The Big Easy and could not be happier. This dive-y bar is tucked away on Kirby and looks like it has been abandoned for years. We walked inside with low expectations. We are two very down to earth girls and up for anything so knew we were in for an adventure. After our initial hesitations we discovered we were in for a treat. We got there around 8:30pm which apparently is very early. The local band, Luther and the Healers, actually goes on stage at 9:30pm unbeknownst to us. Luckily, we stuck around long around to see them play and the crowd file in. The place was soon packed and filled with regulars. I enjoyed watching the amazing couples dance and whirl. If you are looking for a good authentic place with friendly people and phenomenal music, you have found it. I will definitely will be back for weeks to come!

You would swear this place was a dive right off of the fringes of Bourbon Street in New Orleans if you didnt know any better. First of all, its a dive, plain and simple, so dont expect 5-star service or cocktails, but the drink prices are great for the area and thats not why you should come here anyway. If you want authentic live blues and the New Orleans sound, it has found a home in Houston here! Every night theres a band rockin the house with plenty of people on the dance floor shakin and groovin. The crowd is about the most diverse of any bar Ive been in here in Houston. On any given night you will find people from just about every walk of life. So if youre tired of the same old bar scene, you should check this place out.

....I was astounded by how well the musicians played....who are these people? I remember thinking!.....the bar was busy...(must be a really hard job to do)......You need a rhythm to get a drink in a timely fashion...so I timed her...kind of like trying to catch a fish with your bare hands...once I got her ...it was fast......there were loads of really friendly people there...they act like they actually know you....that was fun!....the owner is really obvious and seemed like he was the reason for everyone else being so light hearted and friendly. I dont get out much...but I would go there again, just to meet other friendly folks and listen to great music.

Stopped by on a Saturday night last month and caught Texas Johnny Walker. With my roots in New Orleans, I want good music and to share the love of it with a crowd there for the same. This was the place for it. Fantastic venue that doesnt look like its changed in decades and it shouldnt. Eclectic crowd from a guy on roller skates to local musicians sitting about to those of us somewhere in between of all ages. No worries in fitting in unless youre one of those with a priority to be seen vs enjoy the times at hand. Casual music atmosphere is the priority. The bar is completely secondary...I like it that way. Yeah you right!

Dangerous Biker Bar. Beware !! This has got to be the scariest bar in town. My girlfriend and I went there one Saturday night. The first thing we noticed was that the place smelled of urine. The guy at the front door that takes the money, I think he might be the owner, is out of control. He got all up in my girlfriends face because, I guess, she had sat in the wrong chair or something. We never did figure out what the problem actually was. He just went ballistic. The bar tenders were rude, and tried to screw us on our tab at the end of the night. We wont be going back!

Went for the first time Friday night and I had the best time of my life dancing & partying with Odell Gray! He showed out with The Blues! That man can sang! The Big Easy reminds me of when I went to Memphis Tennessee where you club hop to the Live Blues Bands on Beale Street! If you love The Blues and Zydeco, youve got to go check out the The Big Easy! You get your moneys worth on the drinks, the customers are friendly and be ready to dance! The Big Easy dont owe me nothing!!!

It was not crowded or very busy at all. Went here for my birthday. We stood at the bar for nearly 20 min trying to get a drink. Only one bar tender she went from right and to the left of us taking drink orders. Once all the pale faces had their drinks she helped the only people of color standing at the bar. Im not saying the place is racist. I spotted a few brown people in the bands and customers, but the bartend made it obvious on giving preferential treatment. The band where OK.
