I really enjoy going to local tap and grill, Z Grill and Tap. See what I did there? There really is a lot to like though. There is a bar area, separated from the main dining area. Ive never been dining here late at night, but I have had a drink with the wife a few times we didnt want to make the jaunt into the city, and the bar picks up at night especially on game nights. Z Grill is higher end than a sports bar. The food is well done and the menu is expansive. Food ranges from typical bar food to Tilapia, Salmon, Risotto, and other fine dining choices. The menu is approximately 7 pages. Drink specials are worth asking about. Martinis and wells for $3 during happy hour. I have been impressed on a number of different occasions when the manager of the restaurant took our food order and brought it out himself. Any experience with poor service for those who have dined here must be an isolated incident. We have gone as a family for lunch/dinner with our 10 month old, and weve had a martini or beer just for a quick date night. Game days are nice and they even live music from time to time. Food is reasonably priced and if you sign up for their mailing list, they send you coupons that make it even more affordable and worth trying out. If you want to grab a drink, or watch a game, or just have lunch with the family, but dont want the stench or ickiness of most of the sports bar in the area, this is your place. We go to Z-Grill at least once a month for Dinner and dancing with friends. The food is great since they incorporated the menu and staff from Sonoma last month. Best Seabass anywhere and only $20. Great jalapeno strip. Dont care for their pizza, they need to work on it, but everything else Ive had there is good. The music and dance floor are great. The bands usually all play dance music from all decades through current. Some of the bands have horn sections Regarding the negative comments. I have seen large groups of young people try to skip out on their bill and been caught going out the door, not saying that was the case below, just mentioning. On the tables being pushed together in the bar, we encountered the same thing with the owner who explained that the tables against the wall banquette are specially built and cannot be moved cause they only have 3 legs, which is weird. (but true) I love Z-Grill, whenever we go out, even to other clubs to dance, we always end up at Z-grill cause they have the best bands and we always have a great time. This place is mainly for an older crowd.

WORST restraunt experience EVER. My son selected this restraunt to celebrate his 21st birthday. This being our 1st time to dine here we were excited to try a new place. Upon ordering our drinks, the waitress said that the manager insisted on a second identification from my son. We informed her that this was our son and he was legit and provided the second ID. I told the waitress that I was a bit embarrassed about the request and asked her to mention it to the manager. A few minutes later the manager came to our table with a definite confrontational attitude. He said that most parents come to this restraunt and lie about the age of their children. He had words with my son at which point we decided to leave. We went down the street to the Point and had a great hamburger and good time. It is not as fancy but is far better than the Z Bar. The Z Bar & Grill is a loser just like the manager.

My nachos tasted like feet. No, really. They would have been really delicious if the shredded cheese used on top of it didnt smell like dirty feet. I mean, Im not a prude, but I can honestly say in all the years of my nacho eating, I have never had an experience dealing with feet-flavored/smelling nachos. It is what it is. But then, my glass of ice water was somehow replaced with a disgusting mix of water and soda water, resulting in a flavor combination reminiscent of Alka-Seltzer. The response to that complaint was a simple "yeah they must have done something with the water in the pitcher this morning." Awesome. Much appreciated. An "Im sorry that I just served you dirty water" would have been nice. Honestly, I was about to give this rating one star, but I decided to be gentle given the fact I have eaten here in the past and it wasnt this terrible. Unfortunately, I wont be dining here again.

The beer is pretty expensive, the bar is really smokey, and the food is only mediocre. The real draw to this place was the proximity and the TVs. We had trouble getting the TV that we wanted (no sound is available). Regarding service, this place has really taken a nose-dive in the past 3 months. Zs and Sonoma Grill are under a new owner / manager as of Dec 2007. Let me just say that I had the unfortunate experience of dealing with him face-to-face, and he is a real piece of work. He is downright rude and offensive and should not be dealing with customers, much less running a restaurant. He will continue to drive people away. Do not be fooled by lip service. My 25 friends and I had the worst experience of my life and I will not be returning.

I took friends here and was really embarrassed. The place was practically empty, but still, the youthful servers stood about in a knot and chatted while service went wanting. It took a half hour for a server to appear. It took another half hour for a glass of wine to appear, after which I started looking for a manager. I explained that it had taken a half hour and that if there was a shortage of servers, I could just go order at the bar. He got my wine. When the food arrived, it was cold and had to be sent back. Ill never go back here. The lack of service is really annoying and distracting. Besides, theres enough competition out there that you neednt dump your money at a place like this.

My husband and i are so happy to have Z Grill close by. We are going there for lunch again today and i figured it was time for me to come post about it. My husband really loves their cajun pasta, the portion is perfect! I was told by a coworker that i must try the crab stuffed sea bass and he was soooooo right. The fish was perfectly cooked and the sauce was light and flavorful. My kids split a stomboli and licked the plates. We have been here for dancing and live bands too. We met one of the owners the last time we were there and she was very nice and friendly. Two thumbs way up, a must try for any Flower Mound visitor!

I agree with the other reviews about the place going downhill since the new owners took over at the end of 07. To be honest, the place always had mediocre food, but its calling card was great service and some great bar area to watch the games. The new owners seem to have shifted the emphasis away from customer service and the food has gone from mediocre to bad. We used to have a weekly happy hour there, but with so many other options opening up in the new stores around Highland Village, I dont see how they stay open. Only recommend it if you are REALLY desparate to watch a game that you cant get somewhere else.
