Terrible bouncers and GM at this bar. My friends and I drove 7 hours to visit Charleston and decided to go to this bar. As soon as we walk in my friends phone is stollen from her. When she tells management one bouncer seemed to care and tried helping us out but in the end couldnt do anything. The GM is a pos who cared nothing about the situation. All he wanted to know was "well before her phone got stolen did you guys have fun here?" Our response was well no we walked in and two seconds later her phone was stolen so no we didnt experience anything. So he offered us to get in the VIP line to compensate the phone being stolen (no free drinks). Hell no we didnt want to go back into your establishment. He was not concerned one bit about the situation. Another girl got her phone stolen as well the same night and at the same time. Obviously there was a thief on the loose and what we over heard from other people the Republic does have that issue all the time.. The bouncers were the least bit helpful or apathetic. I mean if its a reoccurring problem and two people got their phones taken you obviously have a crime issue but I guess its okay as long as YOU make your money. Dont waste your time going here every other bar on King St was great and worth the money! And no other bar was as crowded where people were close enough to you to take your phone and it was packed to where they could get away easily. Number control also seems to be an issue. I dont know how that bar is not a fire department concern with how many people they allow in.

I had a very difficult time booking a reservation for a bachelorette party. I had to call back multiple times before I received any response. And once I received a response the price was double what the person who took my messages had told me it would be. The girl who I booked it with ended up being very helpful, but she told me that gratuity/tip was included in the $600 package price (the price list I was emailed also said that) and when we got there the night of they said the gratuity/tip was not included in the $600. They refused to budge on the price even after I showed them the text messages between the person who I booked the reservation with saying the total price was $600. Luckily our server was nice enough to give us a bit of a discount for the confusion which I really appreciated. I was just disappointed at how rude one of the people was when I questioned the price again...I mean it was going to be roughly $180 more than I was told! The music was good and it was pretty fun overall, but the areas/couches that are reserved inside are very close together and people kept bumping into us and spilling their drinks on us which is not what you expect when you are paying that much money. Honestly for the price I was pretty disappointed.

Rudest bouncers I have ever encountered (actually on 2 different occasions but Im only speaking of 1) - I understand the rule of keeping it moving on the sidewalk, but I was rudely told to move a conversation to the corner of the street and threatened to being arrested. Who I assume is the head bouncer made personal, attacking comments/insults such as: "Why dont you be a lady and move it to the corner?"; "I remember when I had my first beer."; "I can have you arrested for blocking the sidewalk"; "Go get the cops, shell regret getting arrested in the morning." I was in no way acting like a hooligan or blocking the entire sidewalk. I was just saying hello to a friend on the edge of the sidewalk/street when this interaction occurred. Also, I am in my late 20s and yes, I may look young but it gives no reason for anyone to treat me so rudely (referring to the "I remember when I had my first beer" comment). And threatening me to get arrested for standing on the edge of a sidwalk? Really ridiculous. Honestly, I feel sorry for the establishment for having such a bad representation at their front door and after discussing the situation with some people, the one bouncer full of comments is well-known to have a bad attitude.

This place is a shame. The manager, bouncers, the girls that work at the entrance are very arrogant and do not have good customer service skills. I visited it 2 wkends ago and after having a couple of drinks had to step outside real quick. I told d girl at the entrance that i was stepping out and that i still had an open tab and she asked me to go n come back in without joining the queue. With this permission in mind, I went out only to be asked to go join the queue when I attempted to come back in. When the bouncers went in to confirm from the girl if I was telling the truth, she denied it flat. At this point, it began to rain and I was still made to stand outside under the rain while explaining to them that my tab was open and i was permitted by the receptionist. The manager eventually came out and asked me to close my tab under the rain and leave since I didnt want to join the queue. How can somebody who has no integrity be allowed to work there (the receptionist). For crying out loud, my tab was open, and I was made to close standing under the rain. So much for relaxation. I will never go there again and I am going to start a social media awareness about this appalling and subjective treatment meted to me.

Weve gone to Republic multiple times, always hoping to have a better experience than the last. It is hit-or-miss every time. The Djs could be better, one of them brings an under-dressed/sketchy random crowd with him. The bartenders are very very disappointing for Charleston. A couple females are rude and act inconvenienced when you order, only one female bartender smiles while working. The male bartenders are ALWAYS in the weeds and moving very slowly. We waited 24 minutes for an acknowledgement while bellied up in front of him, ordered a glass of champagne, and watched the bartender stumble, drop glassware, and stare at the computer completely lost and overwhelmed. I find it hard to believe there arent more experienced and enthusiastic bartenders they could hire. We continue to try because we hope over time it will improve, but were definitely going to wait a few months before our next visit.

If I could give them less than a star I would. I came here on July 1,2017 at roughly between 11pm and 12am. I was meeting friends, and two of those friends happen to be a homosexual couple who bravely decided to hold hands. Your bouncers who was roughly 6ft, black male, bald head , glasses, black shirt and denim jeans prompltly asked for Ids, he checked my friend, me and no issue. He looked at my friends holding hands(didnt bother to even look at the Ids) and said this VERBATIM "we dont do the gay s*** guys, its a no" and turned them away. A apology needs to happen because that was completely unacceptable and that bouncer needs to be fired. I will be calling the club and we can take the appropriate steps. I want you to be able to redeem yourselves but that was a terrible experience.
